When the residents of Ponyville found out that town hero and bearer of the Element of Loyalty had passed in a tragic accident, everypony was taken aback. Some mourned quietly alone or with close friends and family, some shed a few tears in quiet despair on there own, and others drowned in tears with good friends and family. The rest of the Element bearers, Scootaloo, and the Princesses all mourned the loss the trick gone wrong had inflicted on Equestria.
"WH-WHY CAN'T SHE BE H-HERE WITH US?" Pinkie Pie wailed into the cushion on her throne. The main six - now the main five - and Scootaloo, Rainbow Dash's former "little sister," were gathered in Twilight's castle together, mourning the loss of somepony they loved deeply.
"B-because as much as me and the Princesses want to, we c-can't bring somepony back from the dead..." Twilight stuttered from her throne, choking on her tears.
Scootaloo was in Fluttershy's arms, and both of them were crying hard. Scootaloo's head was buried in Fluttershy's shoulder as she let all of her emotions out. Fluttershy sat on her throne, cradling the weeping filly in her arms, rubbing her mane as she cried on par with her. Fluttershy seemed to be the most torn by this loss; she knew Rainbow the most out of everypony. Rainbow had been her first friend, and now she wasn't there to help her anymore, to come to her aid, to be there when she needed her the most. Why can't you be here right now? Fluttershy thought to herself. Why did this have to happen? Why couldn't it have been me? Of anypony in all of Equestria, it had to be you, one of the most important ponies anywhere. Out of everypony anywhere, it had to be you... why? Why? Why? *WHY?*** Fluttershy whimpered as tears streaked down her face faster than before.
Rarity sat across from Fluttershy's throne, perched on her own. Her mascara was dripping all over her beautiful white coat, smudged grey in some places when she had attempted to wipe away her tears. She was in so much despair she couldn't even speak. Whenever Rarity opened her mouth to say something, all that could be heard was a small choking sound as air mixed with her sobbing, or a quiet whimper.
Applejack sat next to Pinkie Pie on her own throne, crying into her hat which she had placed over her face. Every now and again she would peek over the brim of her hat to see her friends, bury her face in her hat again, and cry some more at the sight of her friends crying away over Rainbow Dash's death.
Pinkie Pie twisted around as she cried into the cushion on her throne, glanced across the throne room at Dash's throne, and began to wail even harder than before, slamming her face back into her cushion. Applejack reached over and stroked Pinkie's mane, which had deflated and was a dark pink mess of straight hair that seemed to shield her from the outside world.
Everyone was taking the death of one of their best friends terribly, when there was a knock at the door. The sound echoed throughout the halls of the crystal palace, reaching the throne room and the ponies within. Twilight got up, drying her tears with a handkerchief she had materialized out of thin air. Her purple horn lighting up with a magenta magical aura, the alicorn made six more handkerchiefs appear in front of the other ponies so they could dry their faces. After they were finished and gained as much composure as possible, they all got off of their thrones and made there way to the front doors of Twilight's castle. Twilight inhaled as she took hold of the door handles with her magic, and pulled them open to find Mayor Mare standing there with a beige saddlebag on her back, matching her coat.
Twilight exhaled with relief. "Hello, Mayor."
Mayor Mare bowed down to the alicorn princess with respect. "Good afternoon, your Highness."
"Rise." Twilight Sparkle rolled her eyes, a small blush creeping onto her face. "It's okay, Mayor. You don't have to be so jumpy around me, we were close acquaintances before I became official royalty. You don't have to treat me with the respect you would Celestia and Luna." She added as Mayor Mare jumped to attention at her "order."
"Well... if it's alright with you." The Mayor smiled at Princess Twilight.
"Thank you, Mayor."
"Of course, your Highness." Mayor Mare covered her muzzle with her hoof. She heard the familiar giggling of Pinkie Pie from behind Twilight, accompanied with Scootaloo's giggles. A small blush appeared on her muzzle. "Erm... it might take a little while to get used to that. I'm used to referring to royalty as 'Princess' or 'your Highness' or 'your Majesty.'"
Twilight smiled at Mayor Mare. "It's alright. Now, what is that you need?"
"Oh!" the mayor of Ponyville said, bucking her saddlebag off and onto the ground behind her. She pushed it out in front of her with her hoof, and started searching through it with her hooves, sitting down on her haunches. "I almost forgot! I can't believe I almost forgot about something as important to all of you as this!"
Twilight glanced back at the confused faces of her friends, and they all shrugged back at her. Hmmm... Fluttershy thought to herself as Twilight and Applejack started whispering to each other. The only thing important to any of us right now is... well, *that*. What is so important for her to bother us right now? "AHA!" Mayor Mare's cry of triumph snapped her out of her train of thought, and they all turned to face her, moving a bit closer.
Mayor Mare leaned in close to Twilight and hushed her voice a bit, as her yell had caught the attention of many civilians, who were now looking in their direction. The other ponies on the steps of Twilight's crystal castle formed a circle around Mayor Mare so no one else would see it, as it seemed to be extremely important. If it was bad news about something that would affect society, then the ponies of Ponyville certainly didn't need to know about it quite yet, not until it's figured out.
"Okay," Mayor Mare began in a quiet tone, much quieter than before. "This is something very important, and it will mean a lot to all of you, alright?" The other ponies nodded, and she went on. "Okay, take this, Prince-... Twilight, and don't unroll it until your inside so nopony sees you, erm... crying, alright? I know how hard this must be on you, all of you, and I know you probably wouldn't want to be seen crying in public so... yea, just unfurl it until your back inside." Mayor Mare hoofed a scroll over to Twilight, and she blinked at it.
"Uh... alright. Thank you, Mayor. See you later, bye!" Twilight said, confused.
"Of course, Twilight." Mayor said with a small curtsy. "Good day to you all." With that Mayor Mare trotted down the steps and towards Town Hall, close to the castle.
Applejack ushered everyone inside and bucked the doors closed lightly behind her. They made their way back to the throne room and sat back down on their thrones. Rainbow Dash's throne was empty; nopony wanted to sit on it, it would hurt too much.
Once everypony was sitting upon their respected thrones, Twilight looked at all of them, and they all nodded back. She nodded at them, and levitated the scroll out in front of her. Before unfurling it, she placed it back down on her right hoofrest. Twilight used her magic to make a big table appear in the center of the thrones, and she pushed all of the thrones forward, closer to the crystal table... except for Dash's throne, of course. Using her magic again, she made the scroll triple in size, so they could all read it. The purple princess pushed all of the thrones into a close huddle next to hers so everyone could read it without having to twist into odd angles. Fluttershy and Scootaloo flew above the table, close to Twilight, to make room for the other thrones.
Twilight placed the still rolled up scroll on the table with her magic, and unfurled it all the same. They all read the heading. Tears were shed once again, for at least the twentieth time that day alone.
The heading on the paper read 'Rainbow Dash's Will.'
