The Legend of Dark Wing
Prologue
“There is a pony who stalks the nights, watching the ground, ready to strike like an eagle strikes his prey. Whenever the words “Somepony help me!” are spoken, he is there, his wing swiping the perpetrator away, who is then be found at Fillydelphia’s garden, dangling from the ceiling, swinging slowly back and forth on the rope around the ponies body, then they were put in the jail in Canterlot. This pony was known as Bolt Wing, and his identity has not ever been found.”
“Not true! I know where he is! Its my uncle, Heated Kiln!
“Are you sure, Fire Storm?”
“No, teacher.”
“As I was going to say, I want you to each go home and think about how kind this hidden vigilante is.”
Chapter 1: A Normal Day
The bustle of ponies created a huge problem for Dark Wing. He was going to be late for work again, and this time his boss would definitely fire him. After all, he had been late every monday and friday for the past two weeks. Even the air was congested by pegasi, who were not moving any faster than the earth ponies and unicorns were. If i could just fly higher than them, then I would get to work on time, Dark thought. But this would create a huge problem, since the height limit was 100 meters above the ground. Just this once. He made the decision to fly, and as his wings rose, they sheened from the sunlight against his jet black feathers.
Dark jolted upwards towards a miniature, pony sized, gap in the congested area right above him. He pulled his wings in as he went through the hole perfectly, as if he were a speeding bullet going through a pipe without hitting the edges. He opened his wings again, and boosted forward past the crowds, nearing the speeds of the current record holder, a Ponyville resident by the name of Rainbow Dash.
Dark rushed past the crowds, past the people that were staring up at him, some in awe, others in anger. He could see the face of a shocked cop, who was too surprised by the sheer speed that he did not realize to pursue.
He could see his work building in sight, the National Pony Research Center, or NPRC. There he worked as a lead researcher on a new project that would help support the population by providing almost instant communication between people who were far away. This device was called the Equestria Instant Comms Device, or EICD.
This device was supposed to be useful for anyone in Equestria, but had recently received flak for the use it could have for a group of extremist ponies who were coming from Saddle Arabia, and had recently been popularized by their attempted kidnapping of the mayor of Manehatten.
Dark arrived at work on time, and when he went into his bosses room to tell him that he was here, his boss, an old stallion in his 60’s, just huffed and went back to reading his newspaper.
Dark went to his computer, sat down, and worked on the EICD. After two hours of working on it, Dark went down and grabbed some grub at the near-by diner, the Pegasi Pub and Grill. He sat down on the corner and ordered the usual, a hayburger and some of their famous wheat whiskey. He chugged it down, and got to the gym to work out.
While he doing some wing-ups, he overheard a radio stating that Bolt Wing had recently defeated two jewelry thieves and one attempted murderer. He then started talking to the unicorn next to him about what had happened.
“Bolt Wing is crazy good at his job, huh?” Dark said.
“Thats right. I heard that he works at the Pegasi,” the unicorn said.
“I don’t know, there arent really any ponies there who look suspicious.”
After the gym, he got back to work on the EICD, and he ended up making some major changes to the way it looked. There were just some simple layout changes, but the most important part was beginning the conversion of the encyclopedia from book form into a computer form.
Soon enough, it was time to go home and rest for the night. It was a boring day, and not much had happened. He was fluffing his pillow when he decided to turn his police scanner on. No sooner than he did, he heard a report about a police carriage chasing some suspected vigilantes, and that they were receiving some troubling resistance, via one of the unicorns firing some energy charges at the carriage. the instant he had processed this, he jumped to action.
He pulled out his custom bandana, the design showing of a dark bolt of lightning behind two crossed wings. He then put on his cape, it showing the same symbol, but with lightning around the edges.
He then saw the carriage outside of his apartment window, and he burst out of his room, swooping down to take out the driving unicorn. He landed right next to her, running right beside.
“Nice day to be running from the coppers, isn’t it?” Dark Wing said.
The unicorn tried to swing at Dark’s legs, but he missed. Dark took the opportunity to swipe under the unicorn’s legs, and the unicorn fell over and was soon overtaken by the police. Then one of them noticed Dark.
“Get back here Bolt Wing, you vigilante!” he cried.
“No way! You will never be able to catch me!” Dark Wing yelled.
Dark bolted into the sky, trying to disappear behind the building in front of them. He felt a burning sensation, and he realized that a unicorn had lit his left wing on fire. Dark tried to rub against the side of the building he was escaping from, but he just broke the glass and cut his wing up. He managed to take off the bandana and cape and escape into his apartment without being detected by the police.
Dark retreated into his room and lay down on his plush bed. He was wrapped up in his heated blankets when he fell into a deep slumber.
