Nightmare Moon's defeat ruined Indigo Sky. Banished to the Everfree forest, he is trapped for 1,000 years. Fast forward to the present day. A dark colored unicorn awakes in the Everfree with only a foggy idea of who he is. On the edge of the forest he meets Twilight Sparkle, who helps him defeat a Lupus Major attacking him. They seek Zecora's help to heal after the battle and try to recover his memories. When this fails, Twilight let's Indigo stay with her until he can recover his memories. Over the next several months, Indigo grows to love Ponyville. He grows close to all the ponies in town and soon is a part of everyday life. But, when Celestia and Luna visit the town, Indigo has flashes of ages past. The princesses recognize him, too. When old emotions and magic stir within Luna, can she fight off the dark forces? Can Indigo?
