A day in the life of Dr.Wolf

"And will that be all for today Ms. Fluttershy?" said Dr.Wolf as he escorted Fluttershy to the outside of his office. At this point, the session would have came to close, but to his delight the pegasus had something else to say.
"Uhm," There was a pause as Fluttershy was wondering whether or not to disregard the thought, or to continue."Yes, there is one more thing I'd like to ask, if you don't mind that is," Said Fluttershy.
"Oh but of course! Anything." Said the doctor with utmost sincerity.
"Well, uhm, there's something that I'd wish for you to, if its okay with you that is, I'm not wanting to cause any trouble, but if you could quite possibly, if you want to that is..."
The doctor looked at Fluttershy who was pawing at the ground as she kept her head low, when he reminded Fluttershy, "Do you recall my little tidbit about social interactions Ms. Fluttershy?" Fluttershy looked up almost blushing.
"Oh! Right, sorry." Fluttershy cleared her throat. "Clear your head, relax, have what you want to say in mind, and talk slowly if need be." The doctor nodded his head with both pride and approval. "Very good, and it's quite alright. I too was as timid as you are, even a little to this day, but never mind that, please, do go on."
With a deep breath the pegasus spoke with a postured, yet relaxed tone. Almost as if she was speaking to one of her animal friends except talking not as a motherly figure, but to an equal.
"Me and my friends are hosting a charity event to help raise money for the Ponyville foster home. It's very old, and quite a run down place. They don't have enough money to pay for the repairs and for the supplies that keeps the system going. Soon the're going to have to send all the kids to different foster homes all over Equestria. The children have lived here in Ponyville for all their life, and just the thought of them being separated from their nannies and friends just makes feel ill."
The sound of such an event was disheartening. His empathy only went so far as to attempt a flimsy simulation of the pain the poor children would feel after living such a traumatic event. As a psychologist, the doctor knew what the devastating impacts of such ordeals could do to children at such a young age.
"So after Twilight heard this, she tried everything in her power to keep the kids in Ponyville, but it seemed her influence as princess, couldn't just make money appear out of thin air. So we decided to organize a fund raiser." The doctor nodded in understanding.
"Seeing that you're a friend of Twilight's, we we're wondering if you wanted to help out. We could always use some extra hooves," Asked Fluttershy. The doctor simply raised, and then wiggled his paw.
"Or some extra paws in your case," said Fluttershy with a lighthearted chuckle. The doctor was about to tell Fluttershy that he and the princess were nothing more then close acquaintances, when the details of the event circled through his mind.
"Hmm, when is the event you say?" asked the wolf.
"Tomorrow, we start 11:00 AM sharp."
The doctor thought for a moment, looking to his mental schedule of the events that would take place tomorrow. He had planned on doing some number crunching for his brother that day, but decided, that such activities could wait another day.
"I would be more then happy to attend and help with the fund! You can have me to count on." Said the wolf standing with pride and excitement for the day that was to come.
"Oh, I'm so glad! The others will be so pleased." Cried out Fluttershy with excitement.
"Glad to be helping." said the doctor.
"See you tomorrow then!" exclaimed Fluttershy as she went down the hall.
"Take care Ms. Fluttershy!"
Without anyone else to speak to, his office fell dead silence, except for the clock that kept on ticking. It was meant to add to the calming environment that the doctor tried to maintain with his patients. However the room was far from quite inside the mind of Dr.Wolf. In his head, thoughts were racing and his excitement bubbled. It was quite nice to take a break from all the work, he knew that. He had learned from past experiences that it was imperative to take breaks. To break the cycle of his workaholicsm. He wouldn't say that he never went to social gatherings to often, but perhaps that he didn't go to them as frequent as an average pony in Ponyville would. So it was quite nice to break from the norm.
He decided that he would go home and rest. He yawned and thought that the idea of going home and sleeping sounded brilliant to him. He was, excited of the day that was to come.
The next morning, the doctor woke up to a flickering light that was caused by the many starlings that passed by his window. Creating shadows only lasting for an instant, as the brilliant, golden rays shone through. He got up stretching his arms out to embrace what was to come as the events of the day were to follow.
After getting dressed, and he headed out the door, he observed and saw that the town of Ponyville wasn't busy at all. A few cartridges being pulled, and ponies going to their early morning jobs here and there. It was always like this in the morning. Quiet, peaceful, and in some ways had a sense of freedom or mobility. You could run in a straight line and you wouldn't bump into anypony. The mornings could be described as unreasonably quaint. The morning dew simply added to the affect.
He felt into his vest pocket for his pocket watch and after seeing the time, concluded that he had enough to fill the time gap between now and the charity event, with some morning activity. So he went over to the nearby cafe and ordered a morning sandwich, vegetarian of course. The doctor had understood that it was stigmatized that his kind eats meat. From what his parents told him, his kind were omnivorous and that he was a distant relative of an intelligent line of wolf like creatures called wargs. After some research, it was said that wargs were huge wolves that were fierce and feared by the villagers from killing and eating their livestock and pets. Fortunately, very few cases of consuming ponies. The doctor looked down at his petite body size and soft paws, and simply laughed. The doctor (for as long as he could remember) withheld a vegetarian diet due to the fact he was raised in pony society.
His train of thought was disrupted when an edgy looking group of male earth ponies walked into the cafe. Peculiar. Thought the wolf to himself. He found it odd that a group of ponies such as them, would enter such a peaceful cafe such as this one. A place of peace and tranquility did not suite these kinds of ponies. As he stared at the odd occurrence, one of them looked over to the wolf. Dr.Wolf quickly broke eye contact and resumed eating his sandwich. When he quickly glanced back, the entire group started to walk over with a rather ridiculous swagger. No matter how ridiculous, it wasn't enough to prevent the doctor's heartbeat from increasing.
A grey pony with a scraggly beard and a pleather jacket slammed his hoof on the doctor's table. Loud enough to be intimidating, but not loud enough to attract attention.
"Hey there, my furry fox friend," He said as the smell of thick cigarette smoke protruded out of his oral cavity. It was as appealing as the oflactive equivalence of looking at the deceased. The fact that Dr.Wolf had a keen sense of smell wasn't helping him cope with the situation. Nevertheless, the doctor kept a calm and respectful demeanor and did his best to address him as a fellow citizen of Ponyville.
"Why hello, and good morning to you good sirs, quite a lovely day is it not?" said the doctor gingerly. "tsk" replied one of the ponies from the group. "I've never seen you ponies around here. Or at the cafe at this time of day. What brings you all here? If you don't mind me asking,"
The one with the scraggly beard burst out laughing heuristically along with the rest of his gang. At first he was confused, but then assumed that his kindness was something of a foreign concept among these hard headed folks. Their laughing was noticeable among the customers.
The doctor now speculated that this particular group of people was something of a pack formation. When studying psychology, you learn quite a bit about sociology, and he had guessed that the one that smelled of cigarette smoke was the ring leader.
"Oh you are too funny my furry friend!" said the ring leader as he patted the doctor on the back rather forcefully, almost to the point where the doctor had to regurgitate his sandwich.
The ring leader sighed and sat across from the wolf. "Now listen here, my furry friend, I'm only going to tell you this once," said the ring leader in a threatening manner.
"Let me guess, a kind, fluffy, adorable creature by day, and a disgusting ravaging monster by night. Ain't that the story?" said the ring leader, thinking he had it spot on. The doctor grimaced at the words "fluffy" and "adorable". He hated it quite a lot when he was patronized and referred to something as cute. It gave him a sensation that could be described as icky.
"I assure you sir, that such tall tales of your's are nothing but accusations. Now if you wouldn't mind, i'd like to eat my sandwich in peace,".
Again, the ring leader laughed.
"Monster or not, i really don't care at this point, all i know is that you don't belong here." said the ring leader emphasizing the last few words. The doctor was taken aback by the remark and was about to protest when the ring leader had more to say.
"You see that right there?" said the pony as he pointed to a sign that read "proud to be from Ponyville."
"That says Poonnyyvvillee" he said to the wolf as if he was too stupid to recognize the word. "Not Foxville. Ponyville. Where residents known as ponies live in peace, and quite. Not to be disturbed or feared by the likes of you." at the end, his face drew nearer to the wolf, to add to the effect of intimidation. The doctor's anger started to catch alight, like lighting a match that was intended to start something larger and destructive.
"First of all, I'm a wolf, not a fox, second of all..." He was yet again cut off.
"Like Tarturus i care. I don't think our friend is getting the memo," said the ring leader with a grin, knowing that his pack would agree. Sure enough they all made grunts and mummers that sounded like approval.
"I think it's about time that you stopped harming the comfort of the citizens of Ponyville, and that you hightail out of here and go back to the everfree forest from where you came!" the rest of the gang hollered in agreement. The match of anger was now being lit onto a rope.
"Excuse me sir, but if you don't leave, I'll be forced to..." He was cut off yet again.
"Or what? Tear me limb from limb? You idiot, you don't belong here among us civilized, intelligent creatures! You're just a blood thirsty hound, with the brain size the same as a worm! All you know how to do is just jog around in the wild having your snout stuck to the floor! Go back with your timber wolf kin. We don't want to see your kind here no more mucking up our society!" someone from his gang replied with, "you tell him boss!"
The fire was now sparking, racing up the rope like a race car, traveling at a few hundred miles an hour. The doctor just sat there with his arms crossed, annoyed at the ponies use of the words "civilized" and "intelligent" to describe themselves.
"You better leave my furry friend, or i'll have to show you the way out myself." again, the doctor just sat there, breaking eye contact. He had encountered instances like this before, perhaps even more worse then this, and he knew that it was best just to ignore them. Despite that, his flame was still running down the rope.
"What are you still doing here," there was a pause. "Varmint?"
For a moment the flame stopped in its tracks. The word varmint repeating over and over again in his head like a looped vine, before the flame let out an explosion and continued to run up the line, where at the end laid a massive atomic bomb that could destroy galaxies. "Did you just call me, a 'varmint?'" cried the wolf.
"It's the word that best describes you, so yes." said the ring leader, now knowing that the doctor hated the word and found delight in the notion. His flame was now burning up the rope leaving only particles of smoke, breaking the universal constant of light. It took a lot of juice to get the wolf angry, so his rope went on for light years. But that word, just breaks the laws of physics. I could take these guys on right? Thought the wolf. Of course not, but i could do it anyways He wanted to do unspeakable things to those ponies. He wanted to hurt them so bad. The flame was edging ever closer to the mayhem that was about to occur, he was going to let his true instincts out. He was going to become the monster that they thought he was.
But then something marvelous happened. Something that only the most strong willed of ponies could do. An action that even the most strongest unicorn cannot complete. He got up and stomped on the flame, just before reaching the bomb, turning the flame to minuscule embers. He stopped before the worst could happen.
With a deep inhale, and a forceful exhale, he remained composure and spoke, "Now sirs, I do hope you understand that Ponyville, dare I say Equestria, is a home that is welcome to all creatures of all features, and that in modern day society, racism is unacceptable. I will not apologize that you find my residence here in Ponyville uncomfortable, and it is not fair to project your own ideas onto other ponies. My kind, just as yours, has evolved and changed with the times and have learned to cooperate and work together to create a bright future. It is expected of you to be respectful and kind to sentient creatures of all kinds and to respect there characteristics and cultures whether or not they correlate with your negative thoughts or feelings. However, ignorance can be fixed with the power of knowledge and I am more then happy to help you with it."
No uncontrolled emotions, no violent actions, and no anger. Just a logical, step by step, informative comment. Truly, a momentous feat that is quite difficult to ascertain. The group stared at him in awe, and with such an expression, the doctor felt uplifted. That is, until the group once again, started to burst out laughing.
When the laughing died down, the ring leader simply said, "That's's it, I just about had enough of this..." said the ring leader with a widening grin.
"Oh dear..." cried the doctor as his feeble attempts to approach a problem formally and responsibly came shattering before his very eyes. The ring leader was about to knock the wolf into oblivion before his fist was caught by a pair of four talons.
The ring leader winced in pain, as his gaze followed the one responsible for the sudden intrusion. His expression was instantly turned around from his snarky grin, into a frown that went so low it hit the ground. His pupils, dilated as his unmistakable demise was soon to follow. His gaze laid upon a familiar griffon.
"Bu...Bu...I thought you..."
"I did bozo," interrupted the griffon. "And do you recall what I would do if I ever saw the likes of you in this town again? Huh? Punk?" The pony gulped. Gulping down all hopes of getting out of there. Alive at least.
"Uhm, ha, uhm...yes?" there was a silence between the pony and the griffon as the ring leader lightly clapped his hoofs together with anxiety.
"Then what, in the name of Celestia's forsaken sister are you still DOING HERE!" the griffon yelled out with a roar that could shatter the sense of security of even the most lax and careless of ponies living in a fortress made of steel. Immediately afterwards, the ponies ran out the door, continuously repeating "Sorry! We're so sorry! So terribly sorry!" and with that the wolf's rear was saved by none other then one of his previous, and rather difficult patients, Gilda the griffon.
"Oh, thank you so much! I really don't know what I would have done with out you!" thanked the wolf with a cliche. "I've encountered situations like this one before, but i would never had guessed that it would almost end up being a hate crime..." said the doctor with innocence and curiosity.
"Don't let those idiots get to you. That's exactly what they tried to do with me when i strolled into town. Have me constantly turn my back in fear. Unlucky for them, it seems like they never knew what hit'em." boasted the griffon with pride.
"Listen, thanks again for that, I truly do appreciate it. I know we already knew each other, but I'm sure you would have done that for anybody." said the wolf.
"Tsk, whatever." said the griffon turning her head. "Well, uhm...the least i could do is buy you some coffee, or..." the doctor was cut off. "No thanks doctor soft paws, I already got my drink, so I'm ditching this place." the doctor cringed at the the mention of the phrase "soft paws". It really didn't help his self image.
"But, what brings you here to..." but before the doctor could finish, she had already taken off. Before yelling out the question, the doctor thought that she had already done enough and shouldn't annoy her with his trifling questions. It was true that Gilda was once, one of his patients, however admittedly, he wasn't too successful with her. She had problems galore, and the doctor was able to fix one or two, but to this day still exhibited signs of narcissism and anger. She also had abandonment issues. She stopped mid session, believing that all of it was just a waste of time and that nothing was truly wrong with her as her parents insisted, and it just stopped from there. Despite the fact that the doctor knew he could have done better and had failed to do so, he was just as satisfied knowing that he made some sort of contribution to the over all mental health to another being. No matter how small the difference, having an impact on others and making the world a slightly better place was all the doctor could ask for.
Another thought that struck him was the events that took place themselves. He approached the situation in the most composed, respectful, and all in all, the right way to approach the situation. He supposed he could have called for a manager, but the doctor wasn't boring. Modern day pony society was pretty much governed by magic, and diplomatic, logical strategies. Where being smarter gives you the upper hoof. But in day to day squabbles, or even war, brawn over rules brain. which saddened the doctor.
As the doctor was processing the events that just occurred, he quickly checked his pocket watch and discovered, to put it shortly, that he wasn't going to be able to run the errands he had previously thought to complete that morning. And so, he decided to just go straight to the charity event. No hassle, just strive on forward.
Oh silly wolf, didn't you read the description?
Fluttershy hadn't told him where the charity event took place, but luckily Dr.Wolf had seen a flyer right outside the cafe showing that it would be taking place in the middle of town in the square. So he hurried along, straightening up his jacket from time to time, and realizing now that the town was finally up and about, bustling with activity. Ponies opening up shop, saying their good mornings and such. Whenever he would venture out, when the town was like this, he always had a weird sensation that can only be attributed to "Ponyville." An ideasynthesia bringing up thoughts and feelings of community, home, and all the candy coloured ponies giving a sense of vibrancy. It was in many ways up lifting. But even so, all the candy coloured horses in the world couldn't hide the sadness that bled through the crowd. A minor sliver in the grandiose pool of happiness, but still needed to be treated.
A small unicorn colt sat in the shade of a not to large sycamore tree away from the main path that the doctor was walking on. The doctor walked off to investigate and stood there to hear the numerous sounds that came out of a sad child. The doctor couldn't bare it and had to say something.
"Is that the tree i hear crying?" said the wolf playfully. The kid's body jolted as he panicked and spazed with fear. Not quite the best idea to introduce yourself, but children were never the doctor's forte so he thought.
"Don't be alarmed, I was, just, coming over here to see, well, how you were doing..." said the wolf, having difficulty with how he could form a proper greeting.
"Go away!" lashed out the filly, not even bothering to take a look at who was trying to come to his aid.
"Oh don't be like that, I just want to know what's wrong and help." pleaded the wolf.
"As if someone like you could help me..." pouted the pony, as he buried himself in his arms.
"Oh? Whys that?" asked the curious wolf.
"Because all you adults are the same! All of you think you're so smart, but all you treat me like I'm some sort of...of...experimentation thingy! Like i'm always being tested on!" He quickly spun around to confront the adult. "Like i'm not even... a pony..." the colt simply stared into the eyes of the wolf. He looked at his different features as the wolf sat in a crouched position. He looked at his tail, his snout, and his paws. And for a long time, the only expression on the ponies face was not of terror, as every other filly and colt would have it, but of awe. Awe in place of terror, but for the same reason. Because he wasn't a pony. He was a wolf. Yet here he stood in pony society, living among a completely different species in tranquility. The colt took great comfort in the doctor's existence. Because, just like the doctor, he was different. Only instead of more fur and a longer snout, he was robbed of his hind legs. Well, only one and a half anyways.
After a moment he was caught off guard, but resumed his fetal position behind the tree. "you're still an adult..." the colt muttered stubbornly.
"Where are your parents?" asked the wolf. He was only answered with a slightly more intense sniffling and crying, giving all the information the doctor needed. There was a silence that from the doctor's point of view, was unsettling. So the doctor tried break it and introduce into the atmosphere some friendly chit chat.
"Whats wrong with being an adult?" questioned the wolf as if to ask with sincerity.
"Adults are boring and stupid. They stick to one idea and never think that their wrong. Even when I know their wrong for a fact." said the colt.. rather childish.
"I don't think adults are boring or stupid." replied the wolf with a twinge of retaliation as a child attempted to patronize him.
"Just what an adult would say..." the colt stuck his snout upwards in disgust. The doctor yet again couldn't help but laugh as the colt thought to himself that the strange wolf was indeed an adult. He laughed just as an adult would.
"Come now, surely even a little part of you wished you were an adult. No children can go on the big kid roller coaster, or stay up past their bed times. Only adults get that privilege." the boy considered the thought for a moment and turned around facing the doctor, before shaking his head furiously, refusing to enjoy such privileges.
"Plus, adults get to do almost whatever they want. No pony to boss them around." the boy came in closer to hear the added perk, and it seemed this one in particular intrigued him, but after some thought he retreated to the back of the tree, hiding his face and shaking his head vigorously. The doctor thought for a moment, then was struck with an idea.
"Do you have a dream little boy?" asked the wolf.
"My name isn't 'boy', it's Sue. Sue Audacia " corrected the colt, not taking in the question at all.
"I apologize, do you have a dream Mr. Audacia?" this time the boy registered and looked to the wolf with curiosity.
"A dream?" Sue questioned. "Why would some pony as insignificant as I have a dream?"
"Well why not? Every pony should have a dream. Some dreams come because a pony is passionate about something, or wishes to make the world a better place." replied the wolf.
"But, Mr. Wolf," murmured Sue, the doctor thinking that Sue was almost spot on with his name, "what dreams can i accomplish," Sue looked behind his shoulders to look where his legs should have been, "with this?"
The doctor looked up and smiled. For a while, the doctor thought to himself how he could show this child...An idea struck him. But he would need permission. And he figured he knew who to ask.
"Just stay put," insisted the wolf.
When he got back, he asked the colt, "How about we go get some ice cream? Hm?" The colt got up on his fore hooves and smiled with glee.
"Really? That'd be awesome!" the colt grabbed on to his nearby wheel chair, ecstatic and excited for the delicacy. The wolf smiled and hurried the child along as the colt used what limbs he had to stroll himself behind the wolf.
They finally arrived at an ice cream parlor that had a relatively short line, but the constant, not very frequent influx of customers was enough to keep the salesman busy.
"What would you like then Sue?" Asked the doctor.
"I don't know...what do they have?" the doctor sighed, not knowing what flavors they had and knew they would have to wait. When they finally walked up to the stand, sue was told of the many different flavors and their wacky names. Blue Berry Bonanza, Death by Chocolate, Cackling Cake, and many more. Eventually after much consideration, he simply went with chocolate.
"Ah! A world favorite. Good choice kid." complimented the ice cream man. "That'll be two bits and two silvers please." strange, thought the wolf. Silvers were no longer in use since long ago due to inflation, so he simply gave three bits. The ice cream man nodded and handed the colt a double scooped chocolate ice cream in a waffle bowl. Pretty good deal thought the doctor.m
"Here, keep the change, and another bit while I'm at it." offered the doctor. The colt accepted it with glee.
One of the previous customer's toddler, was enjoying a double fudge ice cream, when some filly on a scooter whizzed past. Seeming to have no control over her vehicle what so ever due to the momentum built up from a nearby hill. She was headed straight for the the toddler!
Yet quite impressively, the filly managed to steer the scooter, avoiding collision thankfully. However due to her speed, she created a powerful gust of wind, knocking the poor toddler's ice cream to the ground.
"Sorry!" Yelled back the filly, that the doctor knew as Scootaloo.
The filly wailed at the sudden turn of events and was disheartened by the loss of ice cream that once resided on her precious waffle cone. Even the waffle cone itself was destroyed from the incredible speeds.
Sue stared at the toddler's lack of ice cream, and then looked at his delectable double scoop ice cream. He observed the sadness, the tears that ran all over the streets as his father tried to comfort the toddler. He knew what he had to do. He went over to the toddler and offered his ice cream with a smile.
"Oh you really don't have to boy we can just get another..." Sue shook his head and insisted that the toddler take his cone. "The line is starting to get some what long, and you'll just annoy the other adults while she's crying." reasoned Sue. Before the father could interject, Sue simply handed over the ice cream to the toddler who took the ice cream with grace. "Thank you!" cried out the toddler. After the father too said some thank yous. He returned back to the wolf who stood there in astonishment by the colt's kindness. The doctor was going to plan on having Sue donate the money, but this would suffice.
"Now, I ask of you, what were the essential items for you to perform that act?" Sue stood there in confusion. The doctor sighed. "Did you need your legs to do that?" Sue was yet again puzzled, and so the doctor sighed yet again. "What I'm trying to make you see here is," the doctor paused a moment to collect his thoughts. "Is that, you don't need physical possessions to make a difference." Sue was now even more puzzled.
"All the ponies I know who make a difference have legs! Without them you can't move around. With out them, I'm nothing but a vegetable!" yelled Sue in sudden retaliation.
The doctor simply shook his head. He knelt down to Sue. "All the limbs in the world, couldn't have done what you did today."
"What did I do? All I did was give her my ice cream cone. What good does it really do? It just distracts me from what I am..." Sue was now starting to tear up.
"When you start to become an adult, you start to forget a lot of things. You forget wonder, adventure, even imagination. But most unfortunately, you forget that even the smallest acts can make the most powerful differences in the world." The doctor grabbed Sue's two remaining limbs. The doctor gave a big smile. "All the money, limbs, power, and magic combined couldn't have done what you did today. Because you Sue," he placed both of the hooves on top of the colt's left chest. "have a heart. And with a heart, you can change the world. And because you have a heart, you can dream. You can dream as big as you want." The colt sat there in awe yet again. "You say that being an adult sucks, which I agree does have its downfalls, but it is being an adult, where your dreams are realized and put into gear." said the doctor staring into space. He directed his attention back to Sue. "You also mentioned that you were insignificant. But a child with a dream is the most important thing in the world."
"More important then the royal guard?" exclaimed Sue, now having his tears dried up.
"One hundred times more." Sue "woah"ed in awe.
Sue felt a little better after that day. He indeed dream, as the doctor instructed. He dreamed really big. Bigger then anyone thought was possible. He dreamed of ponies going off to distant world's, and even dreamed of visiting them himself. He dreamed. And as an adult, thanked his past self for dreaming.
After dropping Sue off at the foster home, the doctor felt somewhat uplifted after knowing that somehow, he had made a difference. He noticed that it was starting to get dark, and that he should probably head on home to at some dinner, but then he noticed a poster on the ground...
Oh shoot.
The wolf immediately ran into the direction of town square leaping from one foot to the next with animal speed. He probably should exercise more these days, but all in all he was pretty fit. As he approached the square, he searched around for the charity event. He saw a stage with worker ponies hanging around putting the equipment away. He rushed over to one of them with vigor.
"Excuse me sir, but is the charity event already over?" The worker pony simply nodded. "Then would you mind telling me where Fluttershy, the host, went?"
"Back home I reckon," replied the worker. The doctor thanked him and hurried along to Fluttershy's cottage. The doctor was furious with himself, but most of all guilty. How could he have done this to her? He promised to join her. Did he really promise? He hadn't actually known, all he knew was the Fluttershy expected him to be there, and he wasn't. He betrayed her so to speak. The very least he could do was apologize.
As he finally arrived at Fluttershy's cottage on the other side of town, he was nervous of even apologizing in the first place. Why bother wasting her time? She might not even want to see his face. No, no, he knew that he had to apologize and explain himself (that is, if she gave him a chance to). It was the right thing to do, whether or not Fluttershy was angry with him.
He knocked on the door. No answer. He then realized there was a door bell. He thought on whether or not to ring it, because he had already knocked on the door, and it might seem a little rude to be so demanding...
His train of thought was cut off when Fluttershy asked, "Wh...who is it?" she said nervously.
The doctor was almost hesitant to reply, but knew that he had to register his presence.
"It's...uhm... Dr.Wolf...Listen I..." He was yet again interrupted when he heard a quickened hoof steps and saw the door open widely.
"Oh why hello there doctor." the pegasus said with glee. Surprised by the pegasus's happiness, the doctor simply continued with his apology.
"Listen I'm so terribly sorry for not attending, I really wanted to attend. More then anything! But then there were these weird, anti non-pony race guys, and then..." the doctor was cut off.
"It's perfectly fine doctor, in fact, I asked a number of ponies to attend, almost all of them said they would. But not many of them came...you're the only one who apologized for it though! Which isn't necessary really. Things happen all the time, I understand that perfectly well." the doctor was so relived to be released from the burden of guilt. Guilt is quite a heavy load to carry.
"Wait, does that mean not to many ponies came? Did you...raise enough..." Fluttershy giggled.
"Oh of course many ponies came. In fact, we got almost double of what we expected!" the doctor looked at the pony with a very puzzled expression. "Then how..."
"Pinkie pie." replied Fluttershy. "Ah, but of course." understood the doctor. "So, wow. You did very well. I'm glad." the doctor's expression once again turned to guilt. "Again, I'm so ever..."
"I already said that you needn't apologize, and seeing that you came all this way, why don't you come in for tea?" asked the pegasus.
"Oh, I don't know..."
"You don't have to come in if you don't want to, but I would hate for you to come all the way out here, only for an apology." the doctor gave some thought and simply replied, "What the hay, why not?"
They conversed about how both of their days went over some lovely tea. The only complaint he had was that it tasted a bit fruity, but the doctor had decided that it perhaps tasted better this way. They laughed, did impressions and discussed the highlights of there days in both under, and over exaggerated manners. Their similarities were almost uncanny.
"Listen, doc, I just want to say how thankful I am for your work. It really does make a difference." commented Fluttershy.
"Oh why I'm flattered!" replied the wolf.
"It's just, that for my entire life, I've always been nervous around ponies. Especially at a young age, but then when I came here, with the animals, my life was completely turned around. Ever since I met them, animals have always been, a comforter. Non judging creatures who only know love. Mostly a love for food." She giggled. "Now this may be a little selfish on my part, but having you as a therapist helps me more then any other pony ever could. Because, in truth, you're not a pony. And in many ways that really helps me as a pony." the doctor, for a moment, felt as if he was supposed to be offended. But had wondered if this was more of a compliment. It didn't matter though because the doctor was in no way offended.
"I really think though, that it has more to do with your...how should i put it, eyes. Figuratively speaking."
"What do you mean?" asked the doctor.
"I think I say this for all your patients, but, you have some sort of attribute, that when put into certain context, makes a pony feel relaxed. Almost like, someone whom ponies can dump their problems onto and take a little bit off their chest."
"But isn't that what all therapists try to accomplish?"
"Yes, but only because they feel like they have to. Like it's telling them your problems, not giving it to them or sharing it with them like you do. I'm sorry if this isn't making sense, perhaps it's just my point of view." the doctor began to slightly understand what she was saying.
"Are you saying I'm special, because of some sort of, calming or professional demeanor?" Fluttershy nodded.
"The only kind that comes from a good heart doc. All good things have it. The ability to comfort those who are need. I guess, one could say that it's your special talent." Dr.Wolf pondered the thought a little more before blushing at the compliment on his effectiveness as a psychiatrist.
Fluttershy gave the doctor an expected hug before saying "thanks doc." and receiving a friendly noogie on the head. The kind you would use when petting a dog. The thought made the wolf cringe, but didn't say anything.
After saying their goodbyes, the doctor exited the doors and was rather confused on what to think of today. The doctor when rummaging through his memories when he felt a tiny snow flake rest upon his snout as he was thinking of Sue. It was the first snowflake of winter.
The doctor looked up to see a million different snow flakes rest onto the ground.
The doctor inhaled, using his paws to gesture it flowing inwards, and then gracefully exhaled, pulling his arm away from his chest before whispering to himself, "It's good to be helping."
