Celestia's Love Game
C.3 Lavender Sun p.2
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“What?” Twilight asked. They had slowed down to a leisurely walk, but Celestia had been laughing her flank off ever since they had left the Theater.
“You are the most adorable little Mare I know! You reminded me of how you said Fluttershy was when she was a model...” Celestia said. Twilight blushed at that, but shook her head.
“I don't like publicity. Praise is fine, but just a 'good job Twilight!' or 'Thanks for the help!' is fine...” Twilight said.
“I know the feeling...but I've grown used to it, putting up with it daily is something I need to be able to do...so, what do you want to do for the next two hours?” Celestia asked, the time currently being Ten in the morning.
“Well we just ate breakfast not too long ago...I don't really know what to do...I guess we can just walk around and talk until noon or until we think of something.” Twilight suggested.
“That sounds just fine.” Celestia responded. And so they wondered the streets until it came close to noon, they returned to the Theater ten minutes before it started. The Mare in the ticket booth waved, they waved back, and they entered.
“So you know who's preforming?” Celestia asked as they took seats.
“Um sorta. I know one of them, but not much more than a name and a “Oh hey there long time no see” when you see each other down the street thing.” Twilight replied. Celestia giggled at the explanation.
“Oh, looks like it's starting. I thought by one of them, you meant there were two or three ponies performing.” Celestia said as a gray earth pony walked out with a large Cello.
“I don't know, maybe Vinyl couldn't make it? We'll see.” Twilight said with a shrug.
The Mare introduced herself as Octavia and began to play. She played a nice classical tone that you'd expect at a fancy ball or something. She started to trail off in the middle of the song as a low rumbling signified the large speakers off to the side were slowly pounding out bass rumbles.
With a flash, Vinyl Scratch teleported behind the mix table and started one of her less wild songs, but it was still a perfect opposite to what Octavia was playing. After a track of that, Octavia started playing again. The two musicians clashed their music for what seemed like hours until slowly, but surely, the contrasting sounds melted together into one harmonic piece. When they finished, Octavia set her Cello down as Vinyl hopped down from the mix tables and they stood next to each other and bowed.
“Oh that was amazing! I just want to royally thank them, but I can't in front of all these ponies...” Celestia said giddily, looking around.
“Well then let's just walk up and 'royally thank them'.” Twilight said, pointing at the two as they began clearing up for the next show. It was relatively short, but it was still fifteen minutes long. Celestia facehooved for not thinking that.
“Hey Octy, couple of fans.” Vinyl said with a grin as the two approached.
“Oh, Hello.” Octavia said, turning around from where she was kneeling as Vinyl used her magic to sling the Cello onto her back.
“Hello, I must say I have never experienced music like that. It was amazing.” Celestia said with a smile.
“Thanks, it's a new thing we were testing out. Looks like it's a hit if we have fans coming up to us after the show.” Vinyl said.
“Terribly sorry, but we've got plans. Is there anything you wanted?” Octavia asked politely.
“Oh, well...to tell the truth, I wanted to officially thank you for such an enjoyable evening. I'm enjoying a day or two of vacation time with Twilight. I'm really Princess Celestia in disguise.” Celestia said.
Octavia clearly looked like she was about to laugh, but Vinyl looked at Celestia and then Twilight.
“Oh Hey Twilight...thought I recognized you. Long time no see eh?” Vinyl asked.
“I guess so.” Twilight replied with a giggle.
“Wait so...you're really...and you loved our?” Octavia stammered.
“Oh it's fine you don't have to worry about offending me. That's the point of a disguise, to not be recognized.” Celestia said with a giggle. Octavia sighed in relief.
Suddenly, what would have been said was interrupted as all four of their stomachs growled.
“Oh! That gave me an idea! You guys wanna come to lunch with us?” Vinyl asked.
“You're alright with that?” Twilight asked.
“It's a bit sudden but sure. We never have any company after a show. It'd be nice.” Octavia replied.
“Then we'd love to.” Celestia said with a smile.
“What's wrong? Just pretend I'm not Celestia, just a friend.” Celestia said when they ordered their meals and Vinyl and Octavia looked like they were in an awkward situation.
“Well...normally we wouldn't care...but uh, with Royalty here we don't want to cause offense...” Octavia said.
“What are you talking about? How can you cause offense, you invited us to lunch.” Celestia said, confused.
“Um...we're kinda dating.” Vinyl said. Celestia sighed.
“Then be together, I hate prejudice against any of my little ponies...Trust me when I say I will never take offense at anypony's romantic decisions.” Celestia said, winking at Twilight.
“Oh thank you.” Octavia said with relief and instantly scootched closer to Vinyl in the booth at the restaurant they were at. Vinyl, however, was watching the two carefully. She caught that wink, and she noticed how they were right up against each other just as she and Octavia were.
“Oh! I get it now!” Vinyl exclaimed right after their food came.
“Huh?” the other three said.
“You said your vacation is to spend time with Twilight! I thought it was because you're like her favorite student but I figured it out! You two are dating aren't you?!” Vinyl exclaimed, thankfully softly enough so that none of the other diners heard.
“Vinyl! How could you assume something like that of the princess out of the blue like that!” Octavia said to Vinyl.
“Well it all fits! They're as close as we are, I've been seeing little signs and everything.” Vinyl said, propping her head up with a hoof while shrugging.
“Don't worry Octavia, it's not offensive in the least. In fact, it's rather accurate.” Celestia said.
Octavia just blinked while Vinyl, on the other hand, did a hoof pump in victory.
“I had not planned on anypony but our closest friends to know, we're just trying it out and seeing where it goes...we didn't want to let it be known until we were absolutely sure.” Celestia said.
“That's how Octy and I started out a year or so back. We were like total opposites, we didn't get along...hell we still don't sometimes...but we just clicked I guess. After the first date we decided it was a serious emotion...after the first party...well...that's not something we should discuss in public, especially not with Royalty.” Vinyl explained, giggling at the end. Octavia glared at her for that.
Twilight, who was already silent due to embarrassment, would have shrank into the seat if it wasn't solid as her entire face was red as the apple in her salad thinking of what that implied- and could imply- for her relationship with Celestia. Celestia laughed a bit, which broke into a full bout of laughter at seeing Twilight.
“I have to thank you both. It has been far too long since anypony has dared be so casual with me, let alone give me a good laugh.” Celestia said.
“Sure thing.” Vinyl said, saluting.
“What's wrong with you Twilight?” Octavia asked. The Lavender mare was practically hiding under the table now.
“That last one must have embarrassed her more than we thought.” Celestia said with a chuckle. Thier food was eaten, or gone cold by now, as they chatted for almost an hour about their days or some amazing story.
“Well see you later, it was very cool to meet you Celestia, and very cool seeing you again Twilight. We should do this again sometime, but we won't be in Canterlot for a few weeks.” Vinyl said.
“It was very nice meeting you too, both of you. This has to be the best Lunch I've had in years.” Celestia said.
“Even though the conversation was rather...intimate, I enjoyed it.” Octavia said.
“I-I second that.” Twilight said, she was still pretty embarrassed.
“Well so long!” Vinyl said as they parted ways.
