"Button, I told you, no more video games!" Button's mom shouted.
"But mom, I'm almost to the next dungeon!" Button complained as his mom pulled the game controller out of his hooves.
"I told you, no more video games until you bring your grades up," his mom said before exiting the room.
"But mom, school is so boring and hard," he moaned as he followed his mother out of the room.
"Well, it wouldn't be hard if you didn't spend all your time on those silly games of yours. You need to spend less time playing games, and more time studying or playing out side with the other ponies," his mom said as she tossed his game into her closet, shutting and locking the door.
"But mom, if I don't play games, then I have withdraws. I get cranky, I do hoof-stands, it's not pretty." He dropped to the floor and hugged his mother's leg. "Please mom, I need them."
His mother frowned, pulling her hoof out of his grip. "I said no button. You need a break from them. Your video games have taken over your entire life."
"No they haven't!" he shouted as he crossed his hooves and began to pout.
"Really?" his mother said, cocking an eyebrow, "I bet you couldn't spend more than three hours away from your games," his mother said as she started dinner.
"I could go without those games for 24 hours," Button stated.
"Oh really?" his mother said as a grin spread across her face, "Then let's make a deal. If you can stay away from your video games for twenty-four hours, then I will give them back to you and never complain about your grades ever again, but if you can't, then you have to start studying and bring your grades up."
"Deal," Button replied, a determined look on his face.
"Then it's settled," his mother replied, turning her attention back to her cooking. Button walked into the living room and climbed up on the couch. It hadn't been five minutes before he started to yearn for his Joyboy. He jumped from the couch and began to pace the room, trying his best to keep his mind off of his video games.
I cant do it, he thought to himself as his pacing intensified. He walked over to the window and watched as snow hit the ground. He thought for a second before sliding on his coat and scarf and walking outside.
He shivered as the cold wind licked at his face. He looked around and watched the other kids playing in the snow. He sighed before making his way to the edge of town. The cold wasn't bothering him much anymore. His jacket had managed to keep him pretty warm. He continued walking until he had reached Sweet Apple Acres. He walked through the orchard when suddenly, a large amount of snow fell from one of the trees and landed right on top of him.
He groaned as he pushed his way to the surface of the white mound. He crawled out of the large pile and leaned against it. "Why does mom have to be such a jerk?" He asked himself, balling up some snow and beginning to role it around on the ground. After a while, the once small snowball had turned into a basketball sized snowball.
Button continued to roll it around. A little while later, he had a large snow ball sitting in front of him. He smiled as he admired his handy work. Quickly, he scooped up more snow and started to make another ball. Soon, he had a large snow man standing in front of him. He clapped his hooves together as he looked over his work.
"It's missing something," he said, rubbing his chin with his hoof. "ah ha!" he yelled as he climbed up and placed his hat on top of its head then rapped his scarf around its neck.
"Perfect!" Button said as he stepped back to look it over once more. "I think I'll call you Billy Snow," Button said to the snowman. The snowman's rock smiles just grinned back at him.
"I knew you'd like it!" Button said as he jumped for joy. The hours passed and the day grew late as Button continued to play with his new friend. He had built a wall of snow around them and was currently playing army with Billy Snow.
"Watch out Sargent Snow! Watch out! The enemy is trying to flank us!" Button yelled as he picked up a snow ball and threw it at an imaginary enemy soldier. "We got him!" Button yelled in triumph. His smile faded when he noticed the sky was growing dark. He turned to face his new friend.
"Sorry Billy, but I gotta go now. It's getting late and mom will get angry if I'm not home before bedtime. The snowman's left rock eye fell from it's face and landed in front of him. Button bent down and picked up the rock before placing it back on Billy's face. It's ok, don't cry. We can play again tomorrow morning," Button said as he turned to leave. He looked back at his snowy friend and his face some how looked sad.
Button thought for a second before running back to his snow fort. "You know what, I guess it wouldn't hurt if I spent the night out here with you. I will just tell mom I was staying with a friend." Button smiled as he hugged his friend. More hours passed and the night had grown late. Button was sitting in front of Billy and was telling him stories about his school.
"...and then Mrs. Cheerilee was so angry, I thought she was gonna pass out," Button said as he fell backwards, laughing. "Ah, but it all worked out in the end," Button said as he sat back up. A cold wind blew through his mane, causing him to shiver slightly. He wrapped his coat tighter around his body.
"It sure is cold out tonight," Button said as he looked up at Billy. -SNAP!!-
Button's ears stood straight up as the sound of the twig breaking reached his ears. He spun around and stared out into the darkness, but saw nothing. He turned back to his friend, a nervous look on his face. "What do you think that was?" Button asked. The snowman just sat there, its stone smirk spread across its face.
"Yeah, you're right," Button said as he calmed down, "it's probably just an animal." Button sighed as he began to calm down. Suddenly, he felt the hot breath of a large beast touch the back of his neck. Button froze as he felt the monster's presence behind him.
He sobbed quietly before slowly turning around. He was suddenly face to face with a large, black, furry beast. It stood on two legs and had hands with long, sharp claws. Its teeth were jagged and sharp and its eyes glowed a bright yellow. Button screamed before running off into the woods, the large black creature right behind him.
Button looked back at Billy. The snowman just sat there with that stone smirk on his face. He had given no warning of the monster that had lurked. Faster and faster, Button ran through the snow. He began to cry even more when he realized he was alone, out in the apple orchard.
He was currently in the south orchard, and it would take him a full hour to get the the Apple family's farm house. He knew he would never be able to run that long. "Mommy! Help me!" he screamed as the beast ran faster, bringing himself closer to Button.
It swiped one of its large claws at him, the claw tearing at the flesh of Button's flank, making a long gash across it. Blood instantly poured from the wound. Button screamed as pain shot through him. He lost his footing and tumbled across the ground. Button groaned in pain as he tried to climb to his hooves when something caught his attention.
Three feet away stood an old stallion with dark red, matted fur and a filthy black mane. He looked to be starved. His ribs were clearly visible under his skin.
"Please sir, help me!" Button pleaded. The old stallion looked down at Button with a frozen, wide eyes expression. "Please, please help me. I don't want to die!" Button cried.
A loud growl reached the old stallion's ears. He looked from Button to the large beast pacing a few feet away. The old stallion slowly approached the beast, his expression unchanging.
The creature growled as the stallion approached it, but the stallion showed no sign of fear as he continued to walk closer. The beast snarled and lunged at the old stallion, knocking him to the ground. The beast clutched his face and began to crush it between his large hands.
Button began to cry harder as he watched the strange stallion struggle under the monster's grip. He knew he would be next when the old stallion was dead. "I just wanna go home!" Button cried as he buried his face in his hooves. When suddenly a loud shriek let out of the monster's drooling lips.
The old stallion had bitten a chunk out of the creatures neck. Button watched as the creature tried to retreat, but was quickly grabbed by the old stallion. He gripped one of its arms in his hooves and gave it a hard tug and, like a wing from a fly, he pulled the arm from the beast.
The creature cried in pain as blood sprayed from where the limb used to be, but the stallion didn't care. He gripped the other arm of the beast and began to rip it from its body. Its flesh began to rip and tear. Bones crunched as the stallion crushed them. Blood poured over the snow, but the old stallion still didn't care. His expression was vacant as he proceeded to tear at the large beast.
Entrails fell from the monster's belly as the stallion tore it open. The armless beast squirmed under the old stallion as he continued to tear away at its body. Soon, all that was left was a bloody mess and a mangled body of a large beast. The snow was covered with a large, gory mess.
Button emptied his stomach as he saw the sight before him. The old stallion turned away from the mess he had made and walked over to the vomiting form of Button Mash.
Button looked up at the old stallion, his muzzle now covered in vomit. "Th-thank you," Button stuttered. The stallion just stared down at Button. His vacant expression made button feel nervous. A cold wind blew through the the trees, bringing with it a biting cold.
Button shivered and looked back up at the old stallion. He stared back. Button opened his mouth to say something when the stallion suddenly grabbed a nearby rock and smashed it against Button's hind legs. Button screamed in agony as he felt the bones break.
"Why, why did you do that?" Button cried, but the stallion ignored him and grabbed buttons tail with his mouth before slowly dragging him deeper into the orchard. "No! Stop! I wanna go home! I wanna go home! Let me go!" Button sobbed.
"I want my mom! Mommy! Please help me! Mommy!"
.........The Following Day...........
Applejack and Big Mac walked quietly through the southern orchard. "Are you sure that you heard somethin' out this way last night?" Applejack asked.
"Eeyup," Big Mac replied.
"Well, I don't see or hear a darn thing," she said as she turned to face Big Mac, "I think you've just been fibbin'," Applejack said as she poked a hoof at her brother.
Big Mac rolled his eyes as his sister started to complain when suddenly, he noticed a red trail of snow off in the distance. He put a hoof over his sister's mouth and pointed in the direction of the red trail that stood out in the white snow.
"What in tarnation?" Applejack said as they walked closer. The trail lead farther up onto the ridge. The two ponies followed it, a nervous look on their faces. When they reached the top of the hill, the sight that they were met with wasn't pleasant.
Big Mac fainted and tumbled down the hill. Applejack threw up her breakfast. She looked back to the sight before her.
About five feet away stood a snowman covered in blood. Its head was gone and replaced with the severed head of Button Mash. His face was full of fear, his mouth stuck in an
eternal silent scream.
