Right Here In My Arms
So In Love
Load Full StoryPrincess Luna was making her rounds again. It was her job, after all, to watch after ponies dreams. As she went from dream to dream, her mind wandered to a pony very dear to her. Twilight Sparkle, the newest Princess, had fascinated Luna ever since that Nightmare Night years ago. She was always in her thoughts, her dreams, and she wanted her. She wanted to be with her, love her, but it could not happen, surely. They would be torn apart by social views, or Celestia would find out. Her sister always put responsibilities before anything else. Then, she found herself in a dream most peculiar. All around, stars were twinkling, and a beautiful voice was singing. it sounded familiar, but Luna couldn't place her hoof on it.
"I see your face, I look inside
But nothing kills my love, my life
But 'til my fall, I see it all
Washed away, from me
Into your arms, I fall to sleep."
The voice came from all around, stunning Luna. The song was beautiful, and she wanted dearly to find the singer. She ran around, searching, and came across a pond. A small waterfall trickled, and fish swam about in the cool water. A willow tree hung over the area, and a rock was in the middle of the pond. And on that rock, stretching towards the sky, sat the singer. It was Twilight Sparkle. Luna sat back and listened, entranced by the beautiful song.
"'Cause I love you, oh baby
You're breaking my heart
I love you, my darling
I'm playing my part
But since we're separate
Nopony's here, so sing my baby,
I'm falling apart"
Luna stepped back a bit, and broke a twig. Twilight gasped, turning in all directions. In her hooves sat a picture frame, and in the photo, there was Luna. her mane shining, and her smile captured in time. Luna was in awe. Twilight, her secret crush for years, had a picture of her. She didn't know what it meant, but she didn't care. She had loved Twilight's singing, and cursed herself for ruining it. Twilight began to swim about, seemingly dancing with the fish and frogs. Luna left, feeling excited, and worried. Was it just hope? Or did Twilight love her the same way? Only time would tell.
:::
Twilight awoke, and the sound of birds permeated her bedroom. She sat up, thinking about her dream. She knew Luna could walk through dreams, but had she seen hers? Twilight didn't want Luna to know she loved her. Not yet. It would probably only distance her from Luna. She went to the window, and looked out towards Canterlot. Her heart yearned for the princess to hold her, to love her. But surely complications would arise? They may both be royalty, but society's views on homosexuality and marriage of the sort was rather close-minded. She couldn't bear if Luna was embarrassed by this, or if Luna didn't feel the same way. She would have to write her. Grabbing a quill and parchment, she began to write.
"Dear Princess Luna,
I would very much like to meet with you, perhaps over lunch, or dinner? If this can be done, contact me with details: time, place, etc.
I would very much appreciate your company, and I look forward to it if you accept.
Twilight Sparkle."
She signed it, and looked for Spike. He was eating his way through a tub of emerald ice cream, when she found him. "Spike, please send this to Princess Luna. And make it fast please."
"Okay, Twi. Anything else you need?"
Twilight shook her head. "No, but thank you for the offer. I have something I need to finish."
She left the room, heading outside. The crisp, autumn air was filled with the scents of roses and honeysuckle, making Twilight smile. She walked around the house, and stopped at a loose branch. She looked around, making sure nopony was around, and lifted it. A hole appeared, and a flight of stairs was made visible. She walked down, lighting her horn. She finally reached her goal, an enormous rotunda. And in the back, lit up by candles and magic, was a shrine. Roses and lilies, her favorites, lay on a stone table, surrounded by candles. And in the center of the table, in a silver frame, was a picture of Luna. She had a smile on her face, and her mane flowed freely like the winds in the night. She went up to it, and stared at the picture. It filled her heart with longing, but she knew she could only stay briefly. She kissed the picture, and retreated up the stairs.
When she entered the house again, Spike came up to her. "Reply from Princess Luna, Twi."
She took the letter, and unraveled it. Anxiously, she peered at the letter.
"Dear Twilight,
I would be more than happy to accept your request. And i would be most elated if you could decide the location. I'm not as social, so you know a bit more. But tomorrow evening would be perfect. I await the details, and bid farewell for now.
Luna. "
Twilight shook in excitement. The mare of her dreams had accepted her invitation. She had to think fast. What would be a good place? She didn't know of any places that made their favorite dishes. She supposed... yes, a picnic would do, right on the hilltops, outside of Ponyville. She had connections, and she could make a pavilion appear at will. She set about making the needed arrangements, and anxiously awaited tomorrow.
:::
In Canterlot, Luna was pacing back and forth. Twilight had just invited her on a date! Well, maybe not a date, but it was a meal. That was enough for Luna, just to sit there, eating with her. She was pondering if she should wear anything, when a note materialized in green flame. It landed on the floor, and Luna rushed to read it. Grabbing it with her magic, she read the contents, and her smile widened.
"Dear Princess Luna,
I hope you won't mind, but I can find no restaurants that make anything we would eat, so I was wondering if a picnic outdoors would suffice? Tomorrow at eight, on the hill by Sweet Apple Acres. I can't wait to see you again.
Twilight."
Her heart skipped several beats. She wants to see me... Suddenly, the world didn't exist, and only Twilight filled her mind. It was getting late now, and she had to prepare for her nightly dream walking. Ponies would be settling down for sleep, but this was her realm. She closed her eyes, and found herself in the dreamworld again. Walking now, she searched the dreams, looking for nightmares and other things. She spotted several rather lewd dreams, and blushed furiously. At least they couldn't see her. She continued on, and found a familiar dream. The willow, the pond, and singing. She knew this dream.
"The seasons change, they rearrange
The moon will cast its glow
But 'til we embrace, we'll have to go
Oh no, my baby, you'll never be alone
'Cause I'm here, darling, you've turned my heart to stone"
Luna was again entranced. The song was so wonderful, it filled her with a spreading warmth. She saw Twilight sitting there again, holding a picture on the rock, and she sang again. Each time, Luna became petrified in the beauty and emotion behind the song. Twilight sang, and Luna listened, and all the while Twilight was having a dream of Luna.
:::
Twilight was singing in her dream again. She knew Luna was there this time, but kept up her charade. Luna needed some hints, and she was more than willing to give them. She had a... suggestive picture of Luna this time, and wondered if she noticed. She smiled, thinking about her reaction if the princess saw it. Maybe a blush, or anger? Or even just surprise? You never knew, and Twilight was determined to make that last. She sang, long into the dream.
:::
Twilight awoke the next morning, and a scent of roses hit her nose. She opened her eyes, and saw that her clock said three in the evening. Her eyes widened, and she jumped up. She was going to be late! She furiously combed her mane, brushed her teeth, and applied her eye shadow. After checking her appearance, she deemed herself presentable, and grabbed her bathing items. As she bathed, she thought about Luna. This wasn't new to her anymore, but it puzzled her. She wasn't thinking about any of Luna's traits, but Luna herself.
After she was done bathing, she realized her mane was messed up again. Frustrated, she combed faster than she thought possible, until some of her mane actually hung on the right side of her face. She stared, amazed at how this made her look, and kept it like that. The clock now said seven thirty, and she knew she had to hurry. Grabbing the food, beverages, and other tools for tonight, she dashed out of the house.
:::
When Twilight got to the hill, it was five minutes until the designated time, so she set everything up, hid the CD player, and sat down, waiting. Not long after, Luna flew by, and landed softly on the ground. "Twilight! It is so wonderful to see you. I've been awaiting tonight with much anxiety. Thankfully, my sister has offered to take over my duties for the night."
Twilight smiled. "Hello Luna. I'm glad to see you, and you've tied your mane back! It looks good on you."
Luna grinned sheepishly. and fiddled with her mane. "You like it? I tried different styles, but nothing else seemed right."
Twilight put her hoof on Luna's. "You look lovely. Come on, the food'll get cold."
They ate in the mild autumn air, laughing and talking about their pasts. It was sunset now, and the food was gone. Twilight pressed a button hidden in her wings, and music started playing. "Twilight, is that Reigning Roses playing?"
Twilight nodded. Luna was overwhelmed with both joy and confusion. "How did you know I liked them?"
Twilight blushed, and started sweating. "When I was in Canterlot, I heard you say something about them. I asked around and found out it was one of your favorite bands, so I bought their albums to play tonight. And I have a question." She paused to take a breath. "Luna, I've had feelings for you since even before that Nightmare Night years ago. And I've admired your bravery even when they shunned you, or made you feel like an outcast. I enjoy talking with you, hearing your voice, and your shy and sensitive nature. So my question is... will you be mine?"
Luna didn't hesitate. "Of course I will. I've had the same feelings, since that night. Your laugh, your smile, everything. Twilight Sparkle, if you'll have me, I'm yours forevermore. And I promise to make you feel like the only mare in Equestria."
"Then will you fly with me?"
"Of course."
They spread their wings, and took off into the sky. Spiraling and turning, they ascended into the sky, the stars twinkling around them. They rose higher by the second, and found themselves above Equestria. In the sky, everything was sparkling. The stars and the moon shone down on them, and they danced. They danced around the stars, and into the night, and the stars sparkled for them.
Author's Note
I wrote the songs used in this story, so yeah. At first I let my friend write the song bits, but he used some of HIM's lyrics. So that was fun. But yeah, these ones are mine. (He's never writing my songs again.)
Anyhow, I adore TwiLuna, so i decided to do his little story here. And yes, before you ask, the title of the story is inspired by a song from HIM. I guess that's why he used their lyrics.
