The Case
First Day
Load Full StoryAce Attack sat in the chair of his office starring at the wall. He was a 13 year old crystal blue pegasus with the same color wings and a dark blue mane. He did not yet have a cutie mark, but he had made many sketches of what he thinks it would look like. A gold star with white wings coming out of it was his favourite of the copious amount of papers on his wall. He didn't have any parents due to a tragic accident after he was born. Actually, he was just coming home from the hospital. He was told that a pegasus known as Spitfire pulled him out of the flaming wreckage since she was the only one to see it. Since then Spitfire has been a guardian to Ace. Ace felt the dread of living on his own with no brothers, sisters, or even friends. His only friends were his teachers and his saviour, Spitfire. She had taught Ace many secrets to flying and Ace was a top class flyer by the age of 9 thanks to her. Spitfire had made a huge difference on his life.
Ace sighed as he waited for the clock to strike 7:30 P.M. so he could starting flying to school, which started at 7:45 and ended at 3:00. In front of him, were two opened notebooks and a pencil. Written in the notebook was a checklist Spitfire had made for him on things he could do in Ponyville. The first one on the list was to find a place to stay.
Ace thought for a minute if a secret room hidden underneath the bridge in Ponyville counted as "a place to stay." A roof, a door, food and drink, a bed, he had everything he needed. He also had a coat hanging on the side of his bed. It was a tan coat with pockets on both sides. It looked like a detective's coat if you were to compare it to Sherlock Hooves. He had a hat to go with it too. He had the coat for as long as he could remember.
Just then, the clock struck 7:30. Ace looked behind him at the saddlebags on his bed and put them on with a simple strap, then he put on the coat and hat. His face was now the only thing visible to anypony looking. He pick up his checklist and eyed it carefully. The next thing to do was, make new friends.
He was never good at making friends, mostly because ponies were to scared to go near him with him being silent and having the outfit. Ace sighed heavily at the thought of making friends, but he had to do it for Spitfire, so he would. He put the checklist in his bags, and walked out the door.
The school yard was loud with the sound of playing and/or talking foals. They all seemed to get along so well, how did they do it? The closer Ace flew to the school yard, the louder it got. Man, these foals really do know how to make friends. From the looks of it, there may have been one or two relationships going on in this school. Ace wondered if he would grow up to have a wife, and secretly hoped.
Ace landed on the ground in an area where most of the foals weren't at. He was surprised nopony even looked in his direction. He thought he would look as surreptitious to them as he did to the young pegasi in Cloudsdale. Which meant he wasn't expecting a squeaky voice to come up to him.
"Hi." It said, Ace didn't jump even though he was about to inside. Ace turned towards the voice and scanned the source with keen eyes. He seemed to have a good eye for most things which made Spitfire think that he was more of a Daring Do then a Wonderbolt. He had even found her missing badge the minute she asked him if he had seen it. Any way, the source was bright. It was obviously a filly from the sound of her voice. She had a white coat with a purple/pink mane, no cutie mark, and a horn signifying she was a unicorn.
"Good day." He replied as normal as possible, yet the filly somehow seemed to feel awkward. Dang it! Was does everything he say have to sound creepy!
"Good day to you too!" She replied, much to Ace's surprise. "I just got here and was looking around for my friends, I noticed you and I've never seen you before, meaning your new! My name is Sweetie Belle, what's yours?" She concluded with an extended hoof.
What do I say? Is this what friends do when they meet? Should I tell her to get lost? No, that would be rude.
"I'm... I'm Ace Attack." He managed to say. Sweetie looked confused.
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch that." She said with her hoof extended still.
"I'm Ace Attack." He said loud enough for her to hear.
"Oh, nice to meet you." Sweetie said with her hoof still extended.
"Um, why are you holding out your hoof?" Ace asked her. Sweetie looked confused.
"What? Don't you know what a hoofshake is?" Sweetie replied in shock.
"Well, no. I don't know. Is it a friend thing or are you telling me to go away?" He said raising his eye brow.
Sweetie didn't seem to understand where he was the last year's of his life. "Well that depends, do you want to be my friend or are you gonna bully me?" She asked.
"Bully you? Why would do that?" He replied, finally reaching out the connect his hoof with hers and she shook it for some reason. That probably puts the shake in hoofshake.
"Because some ponies tend to sometimes." She said looking down.
"Well I wouldn't, you seem nice. I'd love to be your friend." He said with a smile.
"Yay!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed at the fact that she made a new friend today. She looked over to the path of which ponies enter the school building at and her eyes widened. "Uh oh."
Make friends: Check.
"What's the matter?" He asked her. When somepony as friendly as her says "oh no", then it's probably bad.
"They're the matter." She said pointing towards the gravel road. Ace took a look at the direction she's pointing in and spotted two ponies that seemed to be snickering about something to each other. One had a pink coat with a white and light purple mane. She a diamond tiara for a cutie mark, as well as one on her head. The other had a grey coat with a lighter mane. She had a silver colored, fancy looking spoon as a cutie mark and glasses.
"They don't seem too bad." Ace said observing the pair.
"Hey blank flank, how was your "crusading" over the summer? I'm guessing it was as painful as usual?" The pink one said to Sweetie Belle.
"I stand corrected." He mumbled to himself.
"That's not true me, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo get a lot of progress!" She retaliated. Wait crusading? Isn't that adventuring? Are her and those names she mentioned explorers?
"In what? Destroying Ponyville?" The grey one answered back.
"No, in... in..." Sweetie Belle didn't know what to say. She looked ashamed for some reason. Did her exploits cause trouble for Ponyville?
"Look at her stumbling like a little baby." The pink one insulted. Was this the bullying she was talking about? Will I ever stop asking myself questions I most likely can't answer.
"I- I'm not a baby!" She looked as if she were going to cry. The sight sent a sudden surge through Ace.
"Then why do you act like one? You probably haven't hit puberty yet." The grey one insulted.
"Have too!" Sweetie shouted as she looked even more of on the verge to crying. The ponies around her stood and stared at Sweetie at what she had just admitted. Sweetie didn't look like she could hold back the tears.
"What? Are you going to cry now like the little baby you are? Wahhhh! Wahhhh!" The pink one said in a mocking tone in her voice she had when making a crying sounds, along with chuckling afterwards.
"I-I- WWAAAAAAHHHHH!!!" She started bawling into tears and lied down to cover herself.
"Wow, what a cry baby." The grey one remarked.
"Shut up!" Ace shouted stepping in front of Sweetie Belle. The crowd of kids gasped along with the stunned looks of the two bullies.
"Don't tell us to shut up!" The pink filly demanded.
"Stop bullying my friend so I won't have to!" Ace said with anger and determination in his voice.
"What if I don't want to stop?" The pink filly asked with a bored look on her face.
"Then I'll make you." Ace growled back. The crowd started rising "ooooooooh's" at Ace's remark, which made him feel confident.
"Well then- whatever! We don't wanna bother with her anyways!" The pink filly stomped off and her grey friend blew a raspberry in Ace's direction before following.
Ace turned to Sweetie Belle and extended a hoof to help her up. "You okay?" He asked hoping that she was.
She sniffed a couple times. "Yeah, thanks."
"Its no big deal." Ace replied helping her up.
"Its a huge deal!" A voice from behind him exclaimed.
Ace turned around to face the voice's owner. The owner was that of a pegasus. She had an orange coat with a purple mane that was covered by a helmet. The pony next to her had a helmet on as well with an apple red mane and a golden yellow coat. Neither had cutie marks.
"Huh?"
"Sorry for her. Mah name is Apple Bloom and this is Scootaloo." The filly known as Apple Bloom said.
"That was cool!" Scootaloo said. "The way you stood up to defend-"
"What's yer name?" Apple Bloom asked, ignoring Scootaloo.
"My name is Ace Attack. Nice to meet you." He said, doing the same initiation with Apple Bloom as he did for Sweetie Belle.
"Oh, Ace Attack. That's a cool name! What do you think of mine?" Scootaloo asked with a gleam in her eye.
Ace grinned. "It so doesn't sound like a chicken's name." He said sarcastically.
"See! I told you it wasn't a chicken's name!" Scootaloo shouted at Apple Bloom.
"He was bein' sarcastic Scoots." Apple Bloom said with a look that read "are you stupid?" in capital letters.
"Was not!"
"Was too."
"Was not!"
"Was too!"
"Do they do this a lot?" Ace asked Sweetie Belle.
"You'll be surprised." She replied with a sigh.
Ace chuckled and took out his checklist. He scanned it to find his third task, which was to do good in his first class.
"Oh boy." He said to himself.
"I don't care if he was or not, it still means something to me." Scootaloo said crossing her forehooves. Apple Bloom rolled her eyes.
"Whatever ya say Scoots." She said.
"Anyway, I think he's handsome."
"What?!" Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom said in unison.
She thought me, of all ponies was handsome?! On the first day?! She's not bad looking herself but still!
Scootaloo just nodded and winked at Ace.
"We'll talk at lunch." She said removing her helmet and letting her mane fall free, as did Apple Bloom.
Ace, Sweetie, and Apple Bloom were still in shock.
"This IS Scootaloo, right?" Sweetie Belle asked Apple Bloom.
"Well, after that, Ah'm not sure." She replied.
