When I was born, the doctor told my parents that I would never be able to receive a cutie mark. With high hopes my parents believed that one day I would get one, ignoring the doctor's warning. For a few years it seemed to be going ok. That was until I was around 10 years old. By now it was natural for fillies to get their cutie mark around 5-10 years of age.  No matter what i did nothing appeared on my flank. I cried almost every single day asking my mom and dad desperately, “Will I ever get my cutie mark?”

"In due time." they said, seeing a glint of their tears as they said it. I never understood that day why they were crying along with me. I believed those words, keeping my spirits high that I will get mine one day.  Eight more years have passed and it meant I was 18, and to no avail no cutie mark still.  A cutie mark is what makes you special they say, but did this mean I was not special? One day I finally confronted my parents again asking them

"Mom... Dad... Am i special to you?" I waited desperately for their answer.

"You are my dear... but there is something we must tell you." I backed away slowly hoping it was not something grim.

"What is it?" tears started falling down their faces like the rain outside.

"You won't ever be able to get your cutie mark,” my mother replied, “ever since you were born the doctor told us you would not be able to get one. We disagreed and believed that you would eventually get one, but I'm so sorry dear..." It was as if a sharp pain had punctured my heart from the words coming from my mother. Never?

"I-I will never get one?" my mother and father couldn't stop the tears flowing down their faces like a river.  The words hurt but I didn't let those get the best of me. I slowly trotted to my parents putting a hoof on each one. "It's okay mother and father. I understand it is painful... but i want you to know... no matter what... I will get one even if I have to travel the edge of Equestria I promise you... because I believed in you both in telling me that I am special and someday I will return to you with a cutie mark of my own." The next day I started packing things for the journey ahead.

"You don't have to do this my daughter..." I looked at my mother and gave her a comforting hug.

"Do not worry mother... I am doing what i must.... just remember that no matter where I go I will always be in your heart and that I am always special!" I replied with a smile.  I said my farewells to my parents as I slowly left the little town I lived in.  Everyone either laughed at me and made little jokes because I was the only blank flank in town... and of 18 years of age if that didn’t make it any worse... but I've gotten used to it and really don't mind seeing as I was never going to come back to see any of their sorry faces.  But what if this quest I was going on did nothing?  Does that mean I'm really not special?  Will I die without ever acquiring my mark.... but I kept my parents words true... because I was special to them, I was their daughter...  I take my first step out into the world and from there on I begin my journey. Oh by the way my name's Destiny... I really never thought of if before but I always felt I was special for something... but what?  Maybe I wasn't special at all... and who knows... maybe it’s true I will never be able to get a cutie mark.  I couldn't help thinking of what's to come as I took one last glance at my town and ventured into the open land of Equestria.
