//-------------------------------------------------------// 2 Idiots, 1 Love -by Vanilla Mocha- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Vanilla Mocha stepped up onto the long, black stage. The bright green screen made the white furred, brown haired unicorn look like a silhouette with the spotlight's help beside it. A buzzer-type sound rang through the large room. "Okay, guys. At least that was better than yesterday. Let's all break for lunch and we'll see if we need retakes." the mare said, sitting down her movie slate on the cold, dark stage floor. "What do you mean? We've done it a million times, Vanilla. Trust me, the audience won't even know we're acting." A light blue furred, purple and pink haired pegasus said. "Serena, listen. The only audience that thinks you're acting is the camera pony and his friend. You know, the one with the microphone." Vanilla Mocha said, her forest green eyes looking down. "What's wrong, Director? Listen, I know you're not in a good mood. But you don't need to take it out on us." Serena Swift replied. "Sorry. I have just been thinking a lot lately." Vanilla Mocha said, now walking slowly off the stage and towards her blue director's chair. "Thinking? Thinking about what?" The actress asked, now curious. "You really don't want to know." The director sat in her chair, still looking down. "Oh, come on, Vanilla. We're friends. Pretend that we're not at work, but rather that we're at the Pizza Hay or someplace like that. You know, a hangout place. Now, tell me what's wrong. Maybe I can help." The pegasus comforted. Vanilla Mocha looked up at her friend. "Alright. I'll tell you what's wrong. Pizza Hay's not gonna cut it. What about the James Stable?" A smile grew on the unicorn's face. "You- you jerk!" Serena said, now laughing. "Come on, Blu called me earlier. He and your coltfriend are already there, getting reservations." Vanilla Mocha quickly said, feeling excited. "You are such a jerk! Jerk, jerk, jerk!!" Serena repeated, still laughing. The two mares left the studios immediately. "What took you two fillies so long?" Lightning Bolt, Serena Swift's coltfriend, asked as the two mares sat down in the red-cushioned, marble booth at a matching white marble table in the most famous fancy restaurant that only had a few locations across Equestria. "Hey, you try being being stuck in a claustrophobic taxi in the middle of Applewood at lunchtime. Ponies are going crazy today!" Serena Swift laid her head on the the dark blue stallion's shoulder. He looked down at his marefriend with a happy look in his purple eyes. She stroked his blue and purple mane as everypony talked. "So, what new hit movie are you acting in this time, Pl- I mean Serena. Gosh, I almost said your real name." Blu Ray, Vanilla's coltfriend, asked. "It's fine. And the one I'm playing in? The one that physco over there is directing!" She said, looking over at Vanilla Mocha. "You're the crazy-mare!" Vanilla played back. "Hello, I'm going to be your waiter this afternoon. We'll start you off with some drinks today. What would you four like?" A stallion asked them, approaching the table. "I'll have some lemonade." Serena Swift, also known as Plum Rose outside of the movies, said. "I'll take a coke." Lightning Bolt added. "I'll order a coke, too." Blu Ray replied. "I'll just take some water." Vanilla Mocha said. "Alright. They will be out soon." The waiter said, trotting off. "Water? Why water? Mocha, you deserve to treat yourself!" Blu Ray asked. "I know, I know. I just feel like water is a better choice. I don't know- I guess that health magazine I read all the time is finally touching my surface." Vanilla Mocha responded. "That's how I was. Remember back in eighth grade, Lightning?" Plum Rose asked her coltfriend. "Yeah. You were like a water-attic. Glad to see you've added lemons to your drink." He said, recalling her order for lemonade. "Hey now, I drink tea, coke, milk, coffee..." Plum began to list. "Speaking of old times and coffee, how did you two even meet?" Lightning asked, looking directly at Vanilla Mocha. "It's a pretty long story." She replied, looking up into Blu Ray's bright, yellow hazel eyes. "We can listen, right Plum?" Lightning Bolt asked his marefriend. "...hot cocoa, sure, did I already say coke?" she made a confused look. "Are you guys sure you really want to hear? It's very long, like Mocha said." Blu Ray asked the two ponies. "Why not? You know our story already, so why not yours?" Plum Rose caught onto the conversation. "The storm factory. That was awesome when you applied for that job, remember?" Lightning asked his marefriend. "Yeah, how could I forget? But back to your story, Blu and Vanilla." Plum replied. "Come on, it's a double-date. Let's not have all of the attention on us." Vanilla said. "We don't care. Now, tell us! Please?" Plum asked. Vanilla Mocha sighed, and then looked up at Blu. The light blue unicorn stallion looked over at his two friends, and then back down at his marefriend. "Fine. We'll tell you." Blu decided, feeling that Vanilla Mocha would say the same thing if he didn't. "Your drinks," The waiter interrupted. The four ponies thanked him, and began to stir up the conversation once more. "It all began in middle school." Vanilla Mocha began. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter One //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter One "In fact, it was my first day of 8th grade," Vanilla Mocha continued, her mind trailing off into vague memories. She recalled sitting at her light colored, wooden school desk. The smell of daisy sandwich seemed delightful, for she was tempted to nibble some of her lunch out of hunger from skipping breakfast. She knew she couldn't, for she didn't want to break the rules of her new school. It was the first day of eight grade, and she had just transferred to Whitetail Woods Academy. The pimple-covered pony sat in her matching wooden stool, waiting for the teacher to begin class. A familiar yellow furred-blue maned pegasus sat at the teacher's desk. The teacher was named Mr. Wilikerz. He was Vanilla's homeroom teacher, and he also taught history class. No matter how many times as a filly she had changed schools, she has always found each one different and, in a way, mystifying. The students, the teachers, the border around the marker boards- they always seemed like they belonged. School to Vanilla Mocha was like a home away from home. Being an old-school nerd, that was pretty easy. This room was different, mainly because it had no 'school' theme. It was Mustangian Timberwolves- navy blue and mustard yellow, with letter M's everywhere. The border, the wall paint, the door handle- everything. Including the teacher! His cutie mark was a blue letter M, and if some ponies didn't know why by looking at his classroom, well, they should've been ashamed. Posters of the Mustangian Timberwolves were everywhere, and a huge blue and yellow flag with the word 'Mustangia' printed on it hung on the wall behind his desk." Vanilla Continued, "The desk was covered in the smallest knickknacks to the biggest electronics. A 32 inch flat-screen TV sat on the side of the desk. (When did ponies even start using TVs, anyway?) Coffee cups lined his desk, and they had the Mustangian Timberwolves symbol on them, along with a few of Ponybuck's logo. "After first period, I had met my first eight grade friend." Vanilla said, carrying on with the story, "She was yellow with straight blue and black hair, both mane and tail. Her cutie-mark was a movie slate with a pause symbol over it. She sat to the left of me." Vanilla recalled the greeting. "Hey, what's your name?" The yellow unicorn asked, quickly turning her head around, now facing Vanilla. "Vanilla... Vanilla Mocha." The other unicorn shyly replied. "Oh, that's cool. I'm Stopmotion." She smiled. Vanilla Mocha smiled back, but didn't say a word. "Attention class!" A stallion yelled. "My name is Mr. Parker, and I am your science, math, english, and studyhall instructor." A light brown furred earth pony said. He had dark brown business-type hair, and black, square nerdy glasses. His cutie-mark was a red book with the word 'textbook' written across it, as if nopony couldn't tell what it was. "Is your first name Peter?" A green furred earth pony asked. His name was Tooky, and his cutie-mark was a yellow bird. "You mean, like Peter Parker?" Another pony named Veronica asked. She too was an earth pony, but the color pink. She had short blonde hair, for both mane and tail, and her cutie-mark was three blue and purple squares, all overlapping each other. "No, my first name is Andrew." The teacher said. "You mean like Andrew Garfield? The one that plays Peter Parker, who is Spidermane?" A dark blue earth pony asked. The colt had spiky yellow and purple hair, and his cutie-mark was a piece of candy. His name was Pixie Stick. "No, I am Andrew Parker. Now please, no more interruptions." The stallion said, smiling. "You're smiling! You are Spidermane!" Veronica yelled. "No, I said I wasn't. Do you want a demerit?" Mr. Parker asked, still smiling. "No..." Veronica mumbled. Tooky raised his hoof. "Yes, Tooky?" Mr. Parker asked, fixing his glasses. "Can you prove to us that you aren't Spidermane?" He asked. Mr. Parker then proceeded to facehoof. Plum Rose ended the memory with a question. "Uh, Vanilla. This is a nice flashback and all, but, how does this relate to how you met Blu...?" "Oh, well, you're gonna have to get comfortable. It's a pretty long story!" Vanilla Mocha replied. "Goody..." Plum sighed, sinking her head into Lightning Bolt's shoulder. "At the end of that class is when this story really takes off! I had been sitting at my desk, with my new friend Stopmotion sitting to my left, when somepony, or someponies I should say, came in." Vanilla glanced over at Blu Ray. "I was in 9th grade at the time, and my teacher was Mrs.Gingermare. She had a paper she wanted me and my friend to take to Mr.Parker." Blu Ray spoke up. He immediately recalled those short but memorable five minutes. The squeaky, wooden classroom door opened to reveal the two unicorn colts standing behind it in the hallway. Using his magic, Blu Ray had a paper in his green--blue aura. The teacher looked up. "Come in." His dry voice commanded. "Are you Mr.Parker?" A pale, light brown unicorn asked. "Yes, yes I am." The earth pony replied. "Here, sir." The pale unicorn said, sitting the paper down in front of the teacher on his messy desk full of scattered papers and pens. "Thank you." "Come'on, Mike." The Blu Ray said, annoyingly looking at Stopmotion. Noticing why his buddy wanted to leave, he glanced over to the yellow pony. "Oh, hey Stopmo-" Mike began. "Somepony said 'hi' to me! Blu!" Stopmotion said loudly, interrupting Mike. Blu rolled his eyes. The light blue furred pony walked out the classroom, his friend Mike behind him. "Bye!" Stopmotion smiled, watching the door close. "You can't hate your sister that much! I mean, I know she's a pain but she's not that much of one! Just look at my brother. Stupid kid is always trying to outdo me in everything!" Mike said, trotting down the hallway. "But your brother is your twin. My sister, she's- how do I put this into words?" "You better put why you forgot to ask for a pass into words when Mr.Canter catches us roaming the halls!" Mike said, seeing that the school's strictest teacher, and not to mention he was also the dean, was approaching. "Do you boys have a pass?" His rough voice growled. "N-no, sir. We are going to class. We had to run a paper over to Mr.Parker and-"Blu Ray stuttered, noticing his friend wasn't going to talk. "Quiet! You boys are getting a detention! You've known the rules for years! You two have grown up in this school, and I should know it! Teaching here for about a decade, huh! Meet me in detention hall this afternoon, three O'clock sharp!" The earth pony said. "And then what happened?" Lightning asked. "I had detention." Blu said. "You? Detention? How, what, when?! You had detention! But you were a good kid! I should know because I was bad, and look how you turned out!" Lightning replied. "You weren't a bad kid." Plum replied, confused at her coltfriend's statement. "I was a demon compared to him!" The pegasus replied. "Actually, I was a pretty bad kid in high school. But the reason for this detention was outrageous!" Blu continued. "Carry on," Plum urged. "Let's just say that the first day of school for me was probably one of the best days of my life, and I owe it all to detention hall." Blu said. "What?!" Lightning and Plum Rose exclaimed at the same time. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter Two //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter Two The school bell rang. Everypony ran outside to go home, all except four students. Blu Ray, with his best friend Mike beside him, nervously walked into Mr. Canter's Detention Hall. Actually, only Blu_Ray was the nervous one; Mike had been in detention a few times last year, and not to mention the year before that too. "Find a seat. When everypony gets here, we'll start." Mr. Canter's deep voice echoed. Without saying a single word, the colts sat down. Glancing around the room, Mike noticed somepony. She was a light purple unicorn with short, spiky hair. Her dark purple eyes stared down at the floor, but occasionally looked up at the chalkboard in the front of the classroom. Suddenly, another pony walked in. His dark red fur matched his dark red hair, which also had a yellow stripe in both the mane and tail. His hooves and muzzle were also yellow, and his eyes were orange. His cutiemark was a guitar. "Everypony! Now, I'm only going to say this one time, and one time only. You are going to open up the dictionary, and copy all of it until the time is up. No talking, no noises at all! Got it?" Mr. Canter's strict voice bellowed. Everypony nodded silently in reply. As Blu Ray and his detention buddies were into copying the dictionary for what seemed like hours (even though it was about ten minutes) the room had become too quiet for teenagers. Mike began humming. At first it was mumbled, but then the ponies next to him could hear it. Luckily, Mr. Canter could not. Blu, who had been sitting to Mike's right, began to tap the floor with his hoof. As he carried the beat, the purple mare began humming too, in perfect harmony with Mike. Unfortunately, the noise had become too audible. Mr. Canter was aware of the music, and he quickly put it out of its misery. "I said no noises! Now you ponies are going to have to stay behind an extra fifteen minutes." The stallion demanded. An hour had passed. "Blaze Firehoof, you are free to leave." The stallion dismissed the red colt. The colt said nothing as he put away the dictionary and turned in his work. He walked out into the hallway, not looking back at the others. "As for you ponies, you need to get back to work! You'll be lucky if you even get let out!" The ponies continued writing. After fifteen minutes, they had been released. As the dean/teacher stayed inside to clean his classroom, the students walked silently into the hallway. "My question is why is he a dean and a teacher?" The purple unicorn mare asked once the door was shut. "He used to only be the dean. But then he thought the teachers were way too lousy, so he let one go and took their place. And darn, the old teacher was way better. She actually gave us liberty!" Mike replied. Turning the corner, they saw the red unicorn colt that had been dismissed a quarter hour earlier. "Why are you still here?" The purple mare asked. "I wanted to talk to you guys." Blaze replied. "What do you mean?" Mike added. "We seem like a pretty cool group, ya'know. We all do have something in common, too." "The fact that we all had detention on the first day of school?" The mare responded. "I think he's talking about when we all started acting rhythmic at the beginning of detention." Blu replied. Blaze nodded his head. "We could really get somewhere with that!" "But you didn't do anything!" The purple unicorn protested. "I can play guitar." The red furred colt replied. "Let's start a band!" Blu Ray concluded. "What genre?" Mike asked. "I like heavy metal." The purple unicorn suggested. "We never did learn your name, pretty face." Mike said. "What did you call me?" "Nothing. What's your name?" "I'm Amethyst Starr." she replied. Mike only stared at her, a smile growing on his face. "What about pop?" Blaze suggested. "What about rock?" Blu Ray added. "I think rock will work. It's close to metal. If it's hard, solid, gothic rock that is." Amethyst somewhat agreed. "I don't know about gothic rock, but hard rock sounds like fun." Blu replied. "Whatevs." "I like the idea of rock." Blaze stated. "Me too." Mike added. "It's settled then. What should our band nam-" Blu Ray was cut off by a younger mare. "Excuse me, but do you know where Mr. Canter's room is? I left my schedule at home, and I need a book from his classroom for homework and-" "It's down that way." Mike said, sighing at the interruption of an eighth grade filly. "I'll show her." Blu Ray said. While showing the white-furred unicorn to the room, he had a strange feeling that he had seen her somewhere before. "Do I... know you?" He asked her. "I met your sister earlier. I'm Vanilla Mocha, and you're... Blu Ray, right?" "Yeah..." "Cool. So, is this his room?" "Yup." "Thanks!" 'Uh-huh." Blu Ray walked back to his friends. "What took you so long?" Mike asked. "She knows my sister! Not only because she told me, but she acts like Stopmotion, too! She wouldn't shut up!" Mike only stared at his friend. "Okay, so we need a band name. What about the 'Starrs'?" Amethyst suggested. "Heck naw! We ain't name'n it after you! Amethyst Starr!" Blaze Firehoof protested. "I'd rather be named that than the 'Firehooves'!" "Is that supposed to be offensive?" "STOP!" Blu Ray yelled. Carrying on with a somewhat different subject, he said, "We aren't getting anywhere by arguing! Let's vote on some names, and then we can choose from there. This is a band we're talking about. It's not just one of us, it's all of us." "You've got a point. But can we still vote on the name 'Starrs'?" "I guess... I don't really see why not." "I vote for 'Starrs'!" Mike agreed, wrapping his hoof around Amethyst's neck only for it to be pushed off by the purple mare. "I think we should be named 'The Blazing Rebels'." Blaze said. "Well, Blu?" Mike asked, "You can tie it or you can win it." "I like them both. What about 'The Rebel Starrs?'" "I actually kind of like that." Blaze agreed. "I have a band named after me!" Amethyst exclaimed. "Good idea, Blu!" Mike said. Just then, the four ponies, now known as The Rebel Starrs, heard hooves coming down the hallway. As the white furred unicorn approached, the hall became silent. Not looking at anypony, she continued down the hall, with a Photography Learners book levitating in the air next to her. Although nopony looked at her, a certain colt had his eyes on her. "Okay Blu, since it's getting late, I'm going home. We can figure out where we'll have band practice tomorrow." Mike said. "Hey, Amethyst... wanna walk home with me?" The pale unicorn asked, looking at the purple pony. She only slapped his face in return, and trotted down the hallway towards the school doors to go home. "Hey, are you okay?" Blaze asked Blu Ray. The blue colt's yellow eyes hadn't moved since Vanilla Mocha had exited from the school. "Y- yeah." He said, turning around. He grabbed his book bag and left the school. "Your drinks." A waiter ended the memory. The stallion passed out the lemonade, cokes, and the water.
