The school's bells rang out loudly, as a cream colored mare snapped out of her slight slumber. Her eyes darted around the emptying classroom, before she stood quickly, packing her things and heading towards the door in a massive hurry. In the hall, she darted towards her next destination, known as "Culinary 101", a cooking class that she excelled in...unlike her other classes, that is. As she ran, her bright red sneakers squeaked loudly as the solid rubber slid against the tile floors. Unlike most mares seen in the hallways, this one was dressed rather messily. She wore a pink and white striped shirt underneath an army green button up shirt, wrinkled and old, looking as if it was stolen from a male sibling, as well as faded blue jeans. Her bag was, instead of the standard expensive purse that most girls carried, was a worn and battered satchel, dyed an old looking green, with a red and white medic symbol on it sides, which carried her books and other supplies she needed. Her build was also very different from most mares, her being a bit shorter and having a slightly wider frame. She ran past an ajar door, before sliding to a halt and turning around quickly, moving back to the door and walking inside. Her breath was shallow and exhausted as she set her bag on a table, leaning on it to catch her breath, her pink and navy blue hair in a massive mess of tangles and disorder. She sighed as more students stepped into the classroom as she moved to her cooking station, which consisted of a small kitchen island, among nine others, with a stove, oven, a small refrigerator, and small drawers. As she looked over her station, the sudden force of a violent hug caught her by surprise, causing her to practically squeak in surprise, as a female voice was heard in the air as the mysterious arms squeezed her tighter, lifting her off the ground.
"BON BON!!!" The voice squealed, shaking the helpless mare as she hugged tightly.
"Ah- Derpy! please, put me down!" she yelled as she was shook by the mare below her, a lighter grey mare with a golden yellow mane, before being set down gently. Derpy giggled, her yellow eyes as wonky as usual. Bon Bon, as she was now known as, smiled and hugged the mare again, smiling.
"Its good to see you, Derpy. How was your vacation?" She said, releasing the walleyed mare, just before a rather large stallion cleared his throat, requesting the class to take their seats, so he could start the lesson. To his demands, the class did as told. Minutes passed as he spoke, droning on and on about the obvious. Suddenly, as quickly as it began, the class ended with the sounding of a bell, signalling 5th period, on in other words, lunch. She stood and stepped out the door, Derpy sliding past her to catch up with a very orange mare, known as Carrot Top, outside the classroom, with a similar hug to that of the one she received from her earlier. She smiled a bit, waving goodbye to the walleyed mare, before walking down the crowded hall. She released a soft sigh, before being shoved aside suddenly, by a group of several good looking mares, lead by a grey mare with jet black hair, known as Octavia, followed by several of her 'friends'. One of them, however, seemed to stand out. In the very back was a mint green mare, with a set of golden eyes that seemed to shimmer in the light of the school. Bon Bon couldn't help but freeze at the sight, the world seeming to stop around her as she gazed upon the mint mare, who seemed to be a bit shy behind the popular group. She wore white and green clothes, which looked as expensive as the rest of the group. Suddenly, the world resumed once again, as Bon Bon shook her head, shaking herself out of a daydream.
She blinked a few times, before stepping into the cafeteria, walking to a vacant table, unpacking her lunch from her satchel, as well as a small notebook, where several pages of notes had been taken. She sat alone at the table, looking over the notebook, before her eyes trailed towards the crowded table, which held the popular students and their spouses. At the end was the mint green mare, seeming bored and only seeming to speak when she was spoke to, which seemed rare. Suddenly, Bon Bon found the mare looking over to her, and with a heavy blush, she looked away, stammering silently as she looked at her notebook once again, her mind wandering constantly by now. She sighed and began to write things down in the notebook. Half an hour and one lunch later, the bell rang. The rest of the day was rather boring, at least to Bon Bon. As the final bell rang, the school erupted into chaos, student after student rushing outside to get home. Bon Bon stayed behind, in no rush to get home, really.
As she stepped outside, she began to walk past the several buses lining the front of the school, towards the thick woods behind the school, her satchel swinging lightly at her side. As she walked, for an eternity it seemed, she managed to spot someone else in the woods with her, but quite a distance ahead. Watching, she shrugged and kept her normal pace, the sound of the woods filling the air as she continued forward, eventually finding herself at the road where her home was located, sandwiched between two enormous mansions. She sighed and made her way to her unimpressive home, which looked like a shack compared to the two massive homes on either side of her. She turned to check if any cars were making their way down the road, but her eyes catching something else. There, down the road, at the largest home on the entire street, was the green mare from before, her golden eyes as radiant as ever, even at the distance the two had between each other. She sighed, walking towards her house, not to be seen again until the next day.
The air was silent within the massive mansion, as a green mare lay in her bed, soft classical music playing from her stereo. It was all her parents allowed, really. It was supposed to stimulate her mind, and keep her beauty, as all other music was for hooligans and poor ponies. She hated the thought of that, really. She sat up in her bed, her grey tanktop and black sweatpants hanging loosely on her body as she looked around the white room. Everything in her room was white. Her bed, her furniture, almost everything just a plain white. Her mother, a fashion designer, insisted she keep her room like this, to avoid any rebellious ideas. The most expensive clothes, the best in education. The school she attended, West Hoofington High School, was a very prestigious school, one that only ponies with special talents above other's, or with deep pockets, could be accepted. In the minty mare's case, it was the deep pockets of her parents, a fashion designer, and a business stallion. She sighed, laying back on her bed, before the sound of her mothers horrid voice called out her name, causing her to wince in defeat and annoyance.
"LYRA, GET DOWN HERE AND PRACTICE!!" The angry, shrieking voice of her mother sounded like nails on a chalkboard, or even worse. Lyra, as she was named, stood and sighed.
"One moment, mother! I'm changing clothes!" She rolled her eyes and looked around, changing quickly into a white sundress, before she stepped downstairs, holding back the urge to yell at her mother, who stood at the bottom of the steps, an angry from on her face.
"Lyra, you know how important this recital is to our, and your, future! I expect you to know that song by the end of the day, understand?" Lyra only sighed, looking away, before her mother forced her head to look at her.
"Yes, mother...i understand." her voice hid every hint of hatred in her emotions, before her mother released her, walking away.
"Your father and I are going out, and wont be back until late tonight. Have Sofia cook you something." she walked away, towards the door. "And, remember, under 500 calories."
"Yes, mother..."
The mare commonly referred to as her mother stepped out the door, without so much as a goodbye, leaving Lyra alone in the quiet home. She sighed and walked to the living room silently.
