Live and let live I Suppose
Love can be mildly irritating at times
Rarity was scowling so much she nearly went cross-eyed.
"Spike," she said. "That is disgusting."
"It's mildly unhygienic," he argued, putting the cap of the carton back on.
"Spike, we've been living together for a year. You know I hate it when you drink from the carton. Do you even know how much backwash must be in there- Oh Celestia I had some this morning..."
"Don't exaggerate," Spike said.
"I'm not exaggerating!" Rarity said snatching the cartoon from him. " That's disgusting, we own glasses, Spike! They have to have a practical use."
"What're are you watching?" Spike asked coming into the living room.
"Godzilla is playing," Rarity said not looking up from her sketchpad.
"Original?" Spike asked.
"Well, yes look at the effects." She said.
"Cool," he said. He bent down to move some paper spread all over the couch but Rarity eyes immediately shot up and slapped her hand on the book.
"No!" she shouted. "Don't touch anything!"
"I don't get it why is this the milk we have to buy?" Spike asked. It was in a blue carton, like she said, he had to run out and buy. Did the shade matter or something?
Rarity looked away. "Darling just read the labels."
"You said the blue carton! I got the blue carton! I don't understand." He said.
"Whatever," she said turning back.
"Oh come on don't 'whatever' me like I'm to stupid to understand everything that goes through that ingenious brain." Spike said. He hated 'whatever'. She mumbled something.
"What?"
"Forget it," the fashionestta said. "I'll get the milk next time.
He hated 'forget it' too.
She sat on the couch's corner, legs extended in front of her. She felt Spike sneak up behind her and look down at the pages of the book she was reading.
For a few seconds she ignored it but she couldn't focus and she got jittery. She felt his breath on her neck as he read over her shoulder. She snapped the book shut and turned around.
"Do you mind?"
"What do you not want me to read?" Spike asked.
"Yes, but not over my shoulder, please. It's annoying." Rarity said.
"I've been at it for like, ten seconds." Spike said.
"It's annoying!" Rarity defended.
"Hey, so you know Pipsqueak's girlfriend?" Spike said after he sat down at the table after delivering a c cauliflower and broccoli casserole.
"Summer Gale? Why, yes" Rarity nodded, dumping a scoop of vegetables and cheese on her plate.
"Well, she's from Cantarlot Hugh, "Spike said.
"I know." Rarity said her face blank like she was waiting for things to get interesting - for a new piece of information to come up.
"Well," Spike added. "She went to the same school as your sister did, only a million times older."
"I know," Rarity nodded.
"Fine then," Spike huffed. " Just be a know-it-all."
"Well, Spike dear, I knew where Summer was from already." Rarity said. " I'm not being a know-it-all."
"Can't you at least pretend?" Spike pouted. "I mean, it'll be cool if I could tell you something you thought was interesting."
Pipsqueak had just finished retelling his story about when he and Spike almost died while on the climbing wall and per usual everyone at Sugarcube Corner was laughing.
"That will never be not funny." Spike said.
"You can't use double negation, dear." Rarity said irritably. People often joke about the grammar Nazi and maybe Rarity was a member right up there with Twilight. But if she was going to be bothered to listen to something then, whoever talked should be bother to say it correctly.
She made him march into the bathroom.
"Spike what's that?' She asked pointing.
He frowned. "Um, the toilet."
"Correct. And what's that on top of the toilet?" She asked.
"The...toilet seat?"
"Also correct," Rarity nodded. "Now, while you may lift it up when you have to pee, I'm assuming that you're familiar enough with female anatomy to know that I do not. Ergo when you don't lower when your done, it isn't fun, and excuse my French, genuinely pisses me off."
"Rarity, I need to look up something for school." He said crossing his fingers behind his back.
She clutched her laptop, currently in tablet form.
"No." She said.
"Please?" Spike asked.
"No, it's mine."
"I'm not going to break it." He said.
"No." Rarity insisted.
"Don't you trust me?"
"Yes," Rarity said. "But still no."
So much for Generosity.. He thought.
She opened the cutlery drawer to get a spoon for her lunch nearly tripping on something of Spike's he left laying behind. Goodness, he could be so sloppy and messy sometimes... Upon for the separator meant for the spoons she got a knife. Then, a fork, make that two forks, and the rest knives.
"Spike darling," she groaned. "Put the dishes away right."
Flurries were peppering the view of Cantarlot Hills the pedestrians had. It was all very festive, on Christmas Eve. Still, Spike felt like he was going to be sick.
"We should go get hot chocolate," he suggested as he passed by a stand.
"Rarity nodded. She was bundled up in a longish black pea coat, a set of grey mittens, hate and gloves keeping her bundled up and warm. The ends of her purple hair stuck out from under her hat and her cheeks were a rosy red. She looked really cute, with her absolute hate of the cold after living in relatively sunny and warm of Whitetails for so long.
They sat on a bench after he brushed off the snow, drinking their hot cocoa.
"Rarity I have something to say," he said.
"Alright," she said bringing the cocoa to her lips for a sip.
"Like, it's important." Spike said.
"So, I know we're completely different and that can be a good thing or a bad thing. And I know That I tick you off, just as much as I know that you tick me off sometimes- because we're so different. But they say 'live and let live' and I think we're becoming really good at that. I don't even mind all your quirks anymore, they're just apart of who you are and all of that is beautiful to me. So, we've got 'live and let live' down, right?"
"Right," Rarity said cautiously.
"And they also say that 'opposites attract' and I think that's also true. And I think that we pretty much got that nailed down so much...I kind of want to make it something permanent."
He took her cocoa from her hands, put it on the bench and knelt on the snow in front of her.
He reached into his pocket, mentally gave himself a standing ovation for having it, and took the case out.
"So I'd like to say...Rarity, will you marry me?"
She jumped him and held on so tightly, he didn't think he'd live. But he was glad he did, because then he got to hear the whispered 'yes'.
