The Masked Figure

Flash Sentry exited out of Canterlot High after practicing with his band for two hours. The sky was a bright orange and the sun was starting to set. As Flash Sentry started to go home after another day at Canterlot High, he suddenly stopped at the beginning of an alleyway. He looked around him to see if anyone was following him or could see him. As he looked around, he couldn’t see anyone around. Feeling secure enough, he quickly went into the alleyway. As he almost reached the end of it, a masked figure appeared out of the shadows. The masked person was wearing a full raincoat.

“Hello, Flash Sentry,” the man said in a deep voice. “I was almost afraid that you wouldn’t be able to make it.”

“Well, you know me, I always keep my promises,” Flash shrugged. “Anyways, how’d I do?”

“Indeed you do… .Anyways, you did very well. I was surprised at how well you played your character. The reactions of the people were the best energy collections we’ve had in a long time.”

“Energy collections?” asked Flash. “What do you mean?”

“Oh nothing, just a game me and my friends are playing.”

Flash just shrugged it off. After all, getting a bunch of people mad seemed hardly justified to be worried about. “Anyways, what about my end of the deal?”

“Ah, yes.” The stranger went back into the shadows. After a moment, the figure came back with a guitar. The guitar and its strings were waxed and shiny and the guitar itself had red and white paint on it with an autograph of Flash’s favorite person, Johnny Lemmonicks. The guitar itself was worth about $1500 USD and was obviously not meant to be played. In fact, it was just a shiny item to be looked and awed at. “Here you go.” The stranger held out the guitar to Flash.

“Oh, sweet,” Flash said as he grabbed the guitar and slowly caressed it. “I never actually thought you would give it to me for real. I mean, a thousand dollar collector item just for making people mad.”

“On the contrary, little guitarist, it’s not making just a few people mad. You have enraged tens, maybe even thousands of people with your little facade,” the stranger replied.

“But still, it seems nothing more than just a harmless little prank.”

The stranger started to chuckle at this. ‘Maybe I should just tell him everything. After all, nothing will be able to stop us now that the plan is in motion.’

“This is more than just a little prank my friend. This is what will allow me and my masters to take over the universe!”

Flash just looked weirdly at the stranger. Take over the world by making people mad? That seemed as likely as a world run by magical horses. “Right…..”.

“Oh, you don’t believe me?” asked the stranger in an amused voice. “Of course you don’t, you haven’t got a brain.”

“Hey!” Flash exclaimed. “Just because I don’t want to be in your weird little group doesn’t mean I’m stupid!”

“Honestly, don’t you think there’s something weird about a random guy with a mask giving you a thousand-dollar guitar for what you said as ‘a harmless little prank’?”

“Ummm…..” Flash’s brain was working overdrive at this new information. It was true that he hadn’t thought that there was anything suspicious about the deal at all. Pretend to be someone and get a girl attracted to him. That was it, all for an expensively beautiful and autographed guitar that he would frame. “Well…..”

“Are you starting to understand now?” the stranger asked after a few minutes of Flash thinking.

“That’s impossible! You can’t just take over the world by something as stupid as this!” Flash yelled at the stranger.

“For you, maybe. But we’ve managed to harvest energy by the reactions that you have started the catalyst for,” the stranger explained. “Now that we’ve got enough to set up our plans, we’re very excited and I felt that you should be the very first person to know about it.”

“I’ll tell everyone!” Flash threatened the stranger. “We won’t let you do this! Twilight and-”

“That pitiful Equestrian won’t be able to do anything. You see, we’ve noticed something that no other villain has: that she only appears to save the day when Canterlot High is under attack. You acted as the catalyst to get the Brony Fandom mad and we collected their negative energy. So, we’ve gathered enough of this energy to build a portal. We’ll be going inside this portal to collect energy from another world. Get enough, we come back, and take over. Simple as that. And you won’t be able to do anything about it.”

Flash was starting to get mad. In his rage, he put down his guitar and tried to punch the masked figure, only to be thrown onto the floor.

The stranger laughed again. “Anyways we might be gone a few years, or, if you’re lucky, we might see each other in just a few month’s time.”

“It’ll be too soon,” Flash scowled.

“Just think, you basically sold out to the devil and sealed the fate of your world, just for a stupidly expensive guitar that you’ll never even use. Enjoy it while you can.” The stranger then laughed and disappeared in a puff of black smoke.

Flash Sentry just stood there, with his fists clenched. He couldn’t believe it. In a sense, he had just made a deal with the devil and there was no turning back. He also couldn’t tell anyone. Nobody would believe him. So he just stood there, wondering what would happen next. As soon as he snapped out of his thoughts, he took the guitar and started to go back home. When he exited out of the alleyway, it was already nighttime. He sighed and headed in the direction of his house.

As soon as he reached the house, he reached for his keys and noticed that the guitar wasn’t in his hands anymore. He looked around and couldn’t find it. When he was looking around, he saw a masked figure wearing a trenchcoat. The person looked so familiar, but Flash couldn’t remember why. The stranger approached him and said, “Flash Sentry, I have a deal to make with you…”
