Do you know how Christmas works?
It was a dark winter afternoon and Fluttershy had gone home after Pinkies “ice cream in the winter”-party, a terrible idea if you just read the invitation, but thanks to the big fireplace made with some old apple tries it had been quite convenient. Even Maud had shown up, to compensate for her not being able to come for the Christmas celebration, the only Party of the year that pinkie did not have her hooves in the planning. It should be less of a party, but more of a nice being together. Not that she had the time anyway, because Silvester was Pinkie time. Her cupcakes were never missing though. The host of this years festivities was the apple family and there for some talk had took place earlier that day between Applejack and Fluttershy earlier.
“You sure this is a good idea, sugarcube?”, Applejack asked, with a concerned look on her face.
“Please Applejack, this is his first Christmas with friends. He will want to celebrate it”, Fluttershy responded.
Applejack had no problem with having another guest, even though it was Discord, but she also had to speak on behalf of her family that had discussed the matter already and so Applejack found herself repeating the line that Big Mac had brought earlier:
“Yes, but you know how he can be. Pinkies Silvester party might be the better place for him.”
“It's Christmas, the day of family and friends.” Fluttershy sad,” He will be very sad.”
“Oh my, well OK than”, Applejack answered, giving up her half hearted defence,“But only under one condition: You'll invite him.”
So Fluttershy sat down equipped with a quill, ink and some paper she got from Quills and Sofa
earlier and started her Letter:
Dear Discord,
I had a great day on Pinkies party. We had ice cream next to a large fireplace at sugarcube corner. Now that the winter has arrived most animals don't need my help for a while. Sorry for the lack of letters lately I was off with Bulk and Thunderlane to escort the birds to the south. They tell me every year that they don't need help, but I could not let them leave while knowing that they could fly into a dragon or something. Also I heard some griffins where making trouble in equestria. Some say they eat birds. Anyway the trip went fine. The biggest thread to the birds was actually Biceps constantly terrifying them with his shouting. Coming to the main reason to write this letter I wanted to ask you if you would like to join us at our Christmas celebration?
“oh of course I would like to be there”, Said Discords voice in her head.
“Yes of course he'd like to be there. We will have a lot of fun”, she spoke out loud for some reason, making Angel turn around in his nap.
“Oh yes I love fun”, said Discords voice again.
“Yes he realy loves to have some fun. Huh? Discord?”, said Fluttershy noticing that the voice was not coming from her mind, but was physically present.
She swung around, but there was no creature in the room except Angel, who had sat up from having. She turned to the door. No pony there either. ”Did you see anything?”, she asked turning her head back to angel. She startled from seeing the frightened look on his face. He pointed onto Fluttershy with one paw, the other one covering his face. “What is, Ouch!”, Something spiked her ear.
“Discord!”, she yelled, which was not usual, but what was usual when Discord was involved.
The strange hybrid started unrolling himself out of the ear.
“What are you doing?”, Fluttershy tried to calm down, but she was just unable to.
“Visiting my eldest and best friend after not having heard a word from her for weeks. But if my presence not welcome, I shall leave.” Like the innocence itself he turned around an hovered towards the doo.
“Oh, don't think you get away like that”, Fluttershy said.
“Away from what? I was just curious of what is going on in the life of my dearest Fluttershy”, Discord responded.
Fluttershy sighed. Noticing that arguing with Discord was not worth the breath in her lungs she tried to make something useful out of the situation:
“Anyway, are you going to come for the Christmas Celebration?”
“Oh I would love to join the party, drink some punch, listen to music and play some of pinkies games, like those on my “Welcome-Discord-our-former-enemy-who-is-now-our-friend-i-gues-to-Ponyville”-party”, Discord answered.
“It's not really like that. Do you know how Christmas works?”, Fluttershy asked
“Well, it's in the Winter and … there is snow and … ”, his mouth shut and his face indicated that he would not open it again.
“Oh my, you don't know anything.”, she noticed.
A deep silence had entered the room. It was strange seeing Discord so speechless. He always talked, even in situations that he was not exactly familiar with. Trying to revert back to that state, Discord opened his mouth:
“I admit I haven't had the pleasure to experience Christmas yet, but I might want to catch up on it.”
“Well Ms. Cheerilee will probably do some Christmas stuff in her class soon. You might learn the basics there”, Fluttershy stated.
“Oh that would be wonderful, but am I even allowed to?”, Discord asked.
“Maybe”, Fluttershy answered.
To find out, the next day after the school had presumably ended they went to speak with Ms. Cheerilee. She was sitting at her desk in the front of the class watching over a large piece of paper. I was a huge map of Equestria that, seemed to have been made by the students.
As Fluttershy entered the room she startled up.
“Oh, Fluttershy”, She said,” and Discord what a surprise. What brings you here?”
After noticing that the other one would not start talking Fluttershy and Discord glanced at each other with the corners of their eyes. A few awkward seconds later Discord rose to speak:” Well good afternoon Ms. Cheerilee, I have a problem that asks for your help.”
“And that would be?”, she asked.
“Well as you might know I imprisoned for 1000 years and wasn't a really social Creature even before. There for I never came to experience Christmas. In fact I don't know much at all. Because of this Fluttershy came up with the idea that I could join your class for the next weeks, to learn what I missed.” He had stuttered a bit, but had kept his tone. Asking for favours was not his strength.
Cheerilees face had gone away from her previous smile and was now rather unreadable.
“Well, don't get me wrong I would really like to help you, but I hope you understand my concerns. Altering the classes dynamic in such a significant way and than reversing it to its original state will be quiet a hassle”, she stated.
“Well they will have a fresh start after the holidays anyway”, Fluttershy intervened.
“Maybe, you are right. And also they wont see a Hybrid like you every day, that might be a great experience for them. I'll let you participate, but only if you behave.”, Cheerilee said with a daring look.
“I'm two thousand years old, I should know how to behave. Thank you kindly for you support”, Discord answered.
“Oh, one more thing. You need to get “A Christmas Carrot” by Quartz Diggings, Twilight should have one in the library”, She called after Fluttershy and Discord, as the two headed out the room
“Thank you”, Fluttershy called back.

I know ponies don't celebrate Christmas, otherwise there would be a lot of merchandise.
That's why i chose the AU tag.
I'm using the German version of Christmas, so Christmas is the evening of the 24th.
Chapters will hopefully come every Sunday (if i don't fuck up to much).
