Chapter 1

Early in the morning, the autumn leaves fall off the branches, and as the wind blows them away, ducks are flying high in the air, a cricket makes it chirping sounds, and turkeys can be seen roaming about the woods.

To Twilight, it feels like she and Pinkie Pie have been walking in the forest for hours, trying to look for a town so that hopefully they could seek some answers on how to get back to their hometown.

"It's almost morning. We should have found a town by now. This is the way the woodsmare told us to go right Pinkie?"

"Have you been listening to anything I have said? For the last two hours I've been saying..." Pinkie then started making noises with her mouth as if she's telling Twilight something in an unknown language.

Twilight got annoyed at this and walked ahead of the pink pony.

"Help! Somepony please help me!"

Pinkie Pie looked around and said, "Wait Twilight, I hear something!"

"It's probably nothing. Hey, look at this."

Twilight walked towards a tree with a sign attached that said  Pottsfield: 1 Mile.

"Pinkie look, a town! Let's go this way!"

"Okay, let's go that way." Instead of heading towards Twilight's direction, she walked around the forest to find out who cried for help.

"Hey you!"

"Who me?"

"Yes can you please look behind you darling?"

Pinkie did just that and saw the owl from before trapped in many vines coming from the bushes.

"Oh, it's you again. I seem to be trapped in these here vines.  If you could help me out from this I'll owe you a big favor."

"Whoa! Does that mean you can grant wishes?"

"No no no, I'm not magical."

"Can you turn me into a tiger?"

"Um, no. I just said I'm not magical."

"It doesn't have to be a magical tiger."

Twilight walked up to Pinkie  and said, "Pinkie, stop talking to the bushes."

Right before Pinkie looked up to Twilight, she had just freed the owl from the vines.

"Thank you, I shall owe you a favor soon. Anyway, you two are lost ponies with no purpose in life right?"

Pinkie smiled and said "Yep!"

"How about I bring you to Chrysalis of the Pasture, the good mare of the woods. She could help you get back home."

Pinkie Pie seemed to like this idea, but Twilight objected. "Nope. Magic talking animals, taking us to fairy godmothers, in these mysterious woods... I'm going to Pottsfield."

"Yeah, we're going to Pottsfield! Come on!"

"What about the favor?"

"I'll think of my wish later."

As the three creatures walked down a path that led to the town, Pinkie looked at the cat and said, "So, let's small talk. My name's Pinkie Pie. What's yours?"

"Rarity."

"My friend's name is Twilight Sparkle-"

"Who cares?"

"And my gator's name is Twilight Jr., but that may change."

"Pinkie, let's say you and I ditch your friend for a bit."

"Maybe later. Is it nice being a owl?"

"Nope."

"Oh, do you like cupcakes?"

"No, cupcakes make me sick. I eat rodents, yuck!" After saying this, Pinkie screamed at the top of her lungs.

"What's wrong?"

"How could you not eat cupcakes? AHHH!"

"What now?"

"I stepped on a pumpkin!" Pinkie shouted after she had done the said action with her front right hoof.

"Aha! Civilization! Let's rejoin society" Twilight exclaimed as they got closer to the town.

As they were looking around, the town was absolutely quiet, for there were no residents walking around the streets.

"Hello? Hello? Do you guys see anyone?"

Pinkie pondered at Twilight's question for a second, and said, "I see you!"

Rarity spoke up and said, "I don't mean to be a burden or anything, but it looks like an abandoned ghost town doesn't seem that useful getting you two home."

Twilight ignored her and went into an old house to find someone who might help her. As she opened the door, she saw nothing but a table and a turkey standing behind it. Twilight then shut the door and went back to her group.

"So, did you find anything?" Rarity asked.

"Nope. Where's Pinkie Pie?"

After she said this, the pink earth pony popped her head out of a pile of hay and said, "Do you guys hear that?"

The trio suddenly heard singing voices coming from a barn, so they decided to go there and see what's going on.

When they got to the barn, they saw creatures that looked like ponies, only every inch of their bodies are covered with vegetables, and they wore pumpkins on their heads.

As they became bewildered by what they saw, one of the pumpkin-ponies went inside the barn and noticed the trio.

"Hey, you guys should work on the vegetables and celebrate the harvest with us."

Twilight was confused at first, but then she got an idea of why the residents were dressed like this.

"Oh! You're wearing costumes right?"

"Well sure, pumpkins can't move on their own, can they?"

"Good thing I didn't take this pumpkin shoe off!" Pinkie said cheerfully.

"You find this place as creepy as I do right?" Rarity said with a frightened expression.

"So maybe this is some weird cult where ponies dress in vegetable costumes and dance around a big statue or something. They seem nice enough."

"Ok, you're in denial, that's fine, but I'm just saying there's something off about this place."

"Well, maybe I could find someone who could give us a ride home. Pinkie stay out of trouble, and Rarity, thank you but I don't need your help you can leave now."

"I can't leave. I'm only here because since you two helped me, it's my turn to help you. It's called an 'owl's honor'."

"Rarity, would you care for this dance?" Pinkie asked.

"No thanks."

Pinkie ignored this and danced around while Rarity was sitting on top of her fluffy mane.

Meanwhile, Twilight walked around trying to find somebody to talk to, but another Pottsfield resident noticed her and said, "Hey, aren't you a little too early?"

"What?"

"I mean, it doesn't look like you're ready to join us yet."

"Join you? Me and my friends are just passing through."

"Folks don't tend to 'pass through' Pottsfield."

"Oh really?"

"Yeah, it's nice here."

"Um, I'm just looking to get out of here as quickly as possible."

Just then, an elderly resident of Pottsfield held a cornucopia up to where his ears should be and said, "W-What? Leave Pottsfield? Who wants to leave Pottsfield?" As soon as he said this, all of the residents heard this and stopped their party.

"Oh, are we leaving already?" asked Pinkie.

"Let's leave immediately!" said Rarity.

But it seemed too late for them, for one of the residents shut the doors, and everyone was huddled around the trio.

"Now hold on everybody, let's not jump to any conclusions."

Everyone looked to see who said this, and saw that it was the town leader named Enoch, a gigantic pony wrapped in strings and is wearing a giant pumpkin head.

"Enoch, what shall we do with them?"

Since she became more frightened than she already was, Rarity wandered around to find an escape route and said, "I'm outta here!"

Enoch looked at the purple unicorn and her earth pony friend and said, "Now let's see here, how'd you end up in this little town of ours?"

"Well, you see we were trying to get home, we came into town from the woods, we saw your farms and your houses and thought 'Hey, here's a normal place with normal people'-

"And we stepped on pumpkins!"

"Right, then we heard music from the barn and um... um... how about we just leave?"

Enoch chuckled at this and said, "So let me get this straight: you come to our town, you trample our crops, you interrupt our private engagement, and now you want to leave?"

"Uh, yes."

"You'll never convict! You have no proof!"

Just then, a Pottsfield came up to the leader with Rarity in his hooves.

"This one tried to escape!"

"You put me down this instant! I don't know these clowns!"

"Children, it saddens me that you don't wish to stay here, mostly because I have to simply punish you for your transgressions."

"I told you this place was bad news!"

"So by the Pottsfield Chamber of Commerce, I find you guilty of trespassing, destruction of property, disturbing the peace. I sentence you to a few hours of manual labor."

"Wait what?"

Soon the trio were sent to work in the crops while wearing shackles, and after that they would most likely be on their way into the woods.

A few hours later...

"Just a few hours of manual labor and we're almost done." said Twilight as she and Pinkie Pie were digging holes.

Rarity looked up at the unicorn and said, "And then what are you going to do? Just wander around, this way and that way,  through the woods forevermore?"

"Uh... maybe we should stay here in Pottsfield, it's nice here. Heh heh,  maybe, I don't know."

"Why do they even have you digging these holes?"

"Maybe they're planting seeds or something."

"Or maybe they want to bury you."

"What? That's just ridiculous."

"Hey you guys! I found buried treasure!" Pinkie said cheerfully.

"Really? See Rarity? What'd you find Pinkie?"

"A skeleton!"

Twilight jumped back a little, frightened and confused at what she saw in the hole Pinkie dug up.

"Oh my gosh, we're digging our own... Rarity, I was wrong all along, I don't know how to get home! Use your little feet to pick our locks!"

"Oh, so now you want my help?"

When Twilight saw Enoch and the rest of the townspeople walking through the crops and towards her, she started to panic and says, "Yes! I really want your help!"

"Time is up!" Twilight jumped, and looked behind her to see everyone gathered around.

"Has the work been done?"

"Uh, yeah."

"Splendid, well then-"

"I mean no."

"No?"

Twilight tried to come up with more things to say, so she looked in her hole and saw Rarity picking the locks with her shovel.

"Keep stalling." she whispered.

Twilight turned back to the residents and said, "Well, we were digging, but then we saw that there were too many rocks in the way. You guys don't like rocks right?"

Everyone murmured in agreement, and after that Twilight tried to continue.

"So I was thinking, 'We should get rid of these rocks.' So we were getting rid of the rocks and..."

Twilight looked behind her and noticed that Pinkie Pie, the gator, and Rarity got out of their holes and took off.

"What happened to the rocks?" asked one of the residents.

As Twilight was figuring out what words to say, the skeleton that Pinkie found came to life and climbed to the surface, and started dancing.

All the townsfolk of Pottsfield quickly gathered around the dancing skeleton, who then rolled a pumpkin over his bony arms and placed it on top of his skull, then he jumped and landed on a bigger pumpkin.

"They're all skeletons." Twilight whispered.

As everyone started to dance with each other, Enoch turned to Twilight and asked her, "Are you sure you wanna leave?"

"Yes definitely."

"Oh well, you'll join us someday."

"Psst, Twilight!"

Twilight turned around and saw Rarity peeking her head out of some tall grass.

"Why are you still here?"

"You guys left me!"

Rarity then motioned one of her wings toward Twilight's left hindleg, and the unicorn noticed that Rarity had already picked all the locks. Twilight ran into the forest and saw Pinkie Pie playing with her pet gator.

"Is anyone chasing us?"

"Nope!" Rarity and Pinkie said in unison.

"I thought you guys-"

"You're welcome." said Rarity.

"Thank you. I guess we're even now, you're not around to help us out anymore."

"I wish, but you weren't in any real danger with those weirdos."

Twilight grinned and said, "Oh yeah, then you still have to get us back home."

"I got it! I wish that Twilight Jr. had fingernails so that he could play the guitar better!" Pinkie said cheerfully.

"So sure I'll bring you to Chrysalis'. That's where I'm going anyway."

"Why are you going to Chrysalis'?" asked Pinkie.

"I guess in some ways, I'm trying to get home too."

"That's pretty vague. What does that mean?" Twilight asked.

"I don't have to tell you anything."

"Well, I sure hope that Chrysalis is more helpful than that woodsmare. I think her directions were not so good."

And so, Twilight, Pinkie, the gator, and Rarity walk through the woods as they continue their journey to find a way back home.
