Prologue: The Surprise
The bright blue dual toned hair of the white pony on the bed shook a bit as her head bobbed, a big grin on her face showing her enthusiasm for the music blaring through her headphones. She was only young, though she knew that she was destined to be the best DJ of all time. The music flowing through her imaginative mind caused her to move her hooves as if she were handling a turn table, something that she had only dreamt of using. She jumped a bit as she realized her father was standing over her with a bit of a smile on his face.
“Hey dad, what’s up?” she said in a happy, enthusiastic voice. Her cute red eyes filled with curiosity as she leaned up a bit.
“Well, your mother and myself are going to see a musician performing at the town hall. We know how much you love music, and we were curious if you would like to join us Scratch.”
Vinyl jumped out of her bed, looking at her dad with one of the most sincere and loving smiles he had ever seen from her. “What should I wear? Will I get to meet the artist? What kind of music do they play?” So many questioned filled her mind as she excitedly galloped over to her closet, looking through outfits for something just right for the occasion.
Her father laughed as she continued asking questions in her enthused manner, happiness almost seeming to flow from her body and create a wonderful atmosphere throughout the room. This was the first time she had been invited to see a live performance, and by those standards she wanted to look the part. After a short while of flicking clothes from her closet, Scratch looked over to her father with a questioning gaze, expecting a response for at least one of her questions.
“Maybe you can wear this!” her father exclaimed. He was motioning towards a collar with a pink bowtie sitting on a shelf in the room, one that her mother had given her at a young age. It was next to a few trophies that Scratch had earned at a young age, in some school concerts. She didn’t really think much of dressing fancy, but if it meant that she would be properly dressed for the performance, she was willing to do anything. A feint blue light enveloped the collar as she lifted it with magic, placing it around her neck.
After looking at herself in the mirror, Scratch fixed her hair a bit to match the look of the bowtie. Her blue hair looked beautiful pulled back and straightened, and also helped to show off her horn a bit. It wasn’t really something that she would normally wear, but the bowtie meant a lot to her mother and father, since it was her grandmothers. It also just so happened to match her eyes nearly perfectly. The family was that of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a drummer. Going back even farther, Scratches grandmother had been a master of several instruments, including the cello and bass, and loved the classic genre as a whole.
Scratch walked over to her father, giving him a soft and sincere hug. She really was happy to go see a performance, regardless of the type of music, or the name of the artist. She slowly separated herself from him after the hug, and stood in front of him, a wide grin on her face.
Putting a hoof on a piece of his daughters hair, Scratch’s father brought a piece of her bang down in front of her face. He always seemed to like it best on her, no matter how the rest of her hair was presented. “You look almost as beautiful as your mother,“ he said, giving her a nudge on the side and a polite, hearty chuckle . “Come on then, let’s grab your mother and get going to the performance. We wouldn’t want to keep her waiting all day.”
