child of the golems
chapter one
Load Full StoryBirdsong greets the unicorn filly's ears as she snuggles deeper into her thick bedsheets. The little filly resists the rising sun. However, the sun glares through her window. It shines onto her neck and makes it grow warm. Then the sunlight crossed into her eyes, slowly but surely waking her up.
She groggily kicks off her covers and slides out of bed, hooves thumping against the cold floor. She grumbles to herself seeing as she isn't a morning pony. The filly runs a hoof through her messy mane and levitated two pairs of slippers from their place beside her dresser. She puts the slippers on and goes to her bathroom. Soon she smells the smells of her mother making breakfast, so she quickly splashes icy water on her face and descends the stairs.
She gets a little too excited and trips on the last step and face plants on the floor. Her brother, who was seated at the table, sniggers. "What's the matter, Gold Gear? Can't walk straight?"
"Very funny" she says hotly at her brother as she wasn't having a good morning.
He nods. "And here I thought you were lacking a sense of humour."
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" Gold growls at him.
"Kids, behave yourselves." Their mother scolds while bringing them breakfast. Her brother sticks his tongue out at her.
She sticks her tongue back out at him.
"Stop it both of you or you won't get any waffles." Their mother threatens. They both freeze, not wanting to risk waffles.
"That's what I thought. Now me and your father will be out most of the day and won't be home 'till late tonight, so Bronze you're in charge of your sister." Shining Flower says as Rusty Gear came downstairs. Bronze Gear grinned with pride.
"What! That's not fair! Just 'cause he's a year older than me it automatically makes him the boss of me?" Gold cries out.
"Yes." Shining Flower says as she pours syrup on Gold's waffles.
"But that's not fair!" She still complains.
"Life isn't fair." Rusty Gear states as he puts on the kettle.
"...And plus, Sweetie, you can't reach the phone or know the phone number. Tell you what, tomorrow both of use can go anywhere you want and we won't take your brother." Shining flower suggests.
Gold brightened at that. "Okay!"
"Good, Sweetie." her mom says. Gold is now happy and eating some nice tasty waffles. Bronze grabbed the syrup and flooded his waffles with it.
"Hey! Save some syrup for me!" Gold complains. Bronze pretends not to hear.
"Ugh! That's not what I meant," Gold mumbles to herself. Shining Flower got up from the table and hugged her daughter.
"Thanks, Mom, but why is he so.. so... ugh gross! Are all colts this gross?" Gold says while very flustered.
Shining Flower glances at her husband. "They are."
"Now honey, we should get going." Rusty says, choosing to ignore his wife's comment. Shining Flower gathers the keys off the windowsill. The two adults gather their stuff and leave.
Bronze waits for a few minutes before leaving the kitchen.
"Aren't you going to clean up after yourself?" Gold says to her brother.
Bronze shakes his head. "Nah."
"It's going to attract bugs." She warns as she grabs it and goes to the sink.
Bronze flops onto the sofa and flicks on the television set.
"Wow you're so responsible," she mumbles sarcastically to herself, then she hears a knock on the door. Gold strides over to the door and opens it.
"Hello there little foal, would you like this nice shiny locket?" The old mare on the doorstep says in a gravelly voice. Behind Gold the loud clashing of Neighponese warriors echoes from the television screen.
"Umm.... okay I guess I'll take it." she says to the strange old mare.
The old mare has a hungry gleam in her eyes as she hands the locket to Gold.
".... thank you?" Gold says, beginning to get creeped out as she shuts the door.
The old mare grins behind the closed door. Perfect...
"Bronze!" Gold called excitedly.
"Yeah?"
"I got a cool locket! I'm gonna go try it on!" She says with a spring in her step.
