To Be Questioned By A Princess
Pain stung sharply in the changeling's skull as a flickery light hummed to life on the stone ceiling. His dungeon cell below canterlot castle had remained dark and dead quiet ever since he arrived an hour ago. He had been hog tied and placed upright at the end of an old oak table inside the damp space. As his eyes adjusted he faintly saw a chair begin to glow light blue before it was pulled back sat upon by a large blue blob. A perfectly non descript, meaningless blue blob. Well, at least it was to him. To anyone else who would have been there, it would have been very clear from size and shape that the blob was none other than the Mistress of the Night, Princess Luna.
When the changeling's eye finally brought the blob into focus, he couldn't believe his eyes. Before him sat the regal and powerful co-ruler of Equestria... wearing a groucho marx mustache-glasses combo. Staring blankly, the changeling only managed a dumbfounded, "huh?"
"Where were you the night of the murder?!" The mustache clad princess demanded, dramatically leveling a hoof on the changeling's nose.
"Wha- what murder?! I came here on a peace missio-"
"Did I asked you to talk?!" Luna spouted, her muzzle inches from his face.
"I- I mean yo- you, me, uh. Was... wasn't that a question you asked me, um, Princess?" He said, his pupils and head shrinking down. Luna made a dramatic swing of her head up and around the room; the fake glasses and mustache shifting to sit lopsided on her nose.
"I guess you want to play 'hard-ball', huh? Don't cha punk?" Luna said while cracking the joints in her forelegs loud enough to sound painful to the changeling. He gave Luna a pleading look.
"I came to pass news of new leadership within the colony! I don't understand why this is all necessary! I mean, you knew I would be coming here, didn't you?" Luna straightened her mustache and gave a hard look to the middle aged bug. A bead of sweat running down his brow.
"Can I get you something to drink?" Luna asked in a dangerous, testing voice.
"I- what? Um, yes? That would be nice, thank you?" The changeling really didn't know what to make of the whole situation, but he hadn't had anything to drink in hours and he knew better than to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Luna place a hoof under the table and pulled out a large, empty glass cup and placed it on the splintered oak surface. Holding her stare on the changeling she asked, "What will it be? We have water, milk, juice, spiders, Dr. Pepper-"
"Spiders?"
"Spiders it is, then."
"No, that wasn't-"
But she was already pouring him a brimming glass of spiders. The little arachnids overflowing the glass while the changeling glanced back and forth between the cup and luna's stare. He really, really couldn't seem to comprehend what was happening. The princess should have known for weeks that he was coming. There had been treaties and correspondence! What was all this? Was it some kind of huge jok-
His thoughts were cut off abruptly by the sound of the large alicorn finally losing her composure and giving into a giggle fit. The changeling, otherwise known as ambassador Good Will, slumped back into his seat and groaned. This was the first time he'd formally met the princess of the night, and it seemed the rumors of her excessive hijinks were true. With a held breath released, he gave her a pointed stare. "Princess Luna, was that really quite all necessary?" Still giggling to herself, Luna waved away the ambassador's comment.
"Oh come now! Wasn't that just joyous! Besides, we warned you that there may be some theatrics! Our ponies reacted quite poorly to your presence. Putting on a little show where the guards apprehend you was the easiest way to calm them down."
"Princess, if I may interject, you left me to sit down here, tied up, for well over an hour! You couldn't have told them to just leave me in a bedroom?" Luna gave a wry smile as her cheeks blushed lightly.
"We apologize for that Sir Will. We might have underestimated how much time it would take to convince the crowd a public execution wasn't the best solution to your arrival. That, and I thought sending you anywhere else would have 'watered down' the authenticity. The last thing we need is citizens convinced the kingdom is being controlled by a new changeling order." Luna flashed a small smile after her explanation.
"But. Ugh. Alright. Well I give you my thanks for keeping the crowd from my throat. Would you mind untying me now?" The ambassador shimmied in his bonds for effect. Luna, for her part, did as he asked immediately, poofing away the restraints. Wiggling his appendages about, he gave a confused look to the blue alicorn's face.
"Uh, Princess, I do have to ask though, was it really necessary to waste time confronting me when you got down here?" Luna smirked. Without missing a beat, she half giggled out, "Yes, well, while time does fly like an arrow, one must remember fruit flies like a banana." The ambassador gave her a look.
"Will all due respect, my lady, shouldn't you be a bit beyond quipping foalish play on words?" As they left the cell and turned down the hall, Luna felt the ambassador waiting for a reply.
"Sir Will, I do hope you're not calling me elderly?"
"No- no not at all Princess! I was merely saying tha-"
"Because I'd have you know that we were born at a very early age. Thusly it would be a tragedy if we acted half the age you look!" Luna proceeded to huff and point her muzzle skyward, leaving the ambassador to hold an unamused look as they ascended the stairs.
"Could you at least take the mustache off. You look ridiculous."
