//-------------------------------------------------------// The Awakening -by iGoatKnow- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// The Awakening //-------------------------------------------------------// The Awakening Twilight's eyes peered into the endless murky darkness, bubbles floated up in huge streams as a tremendous rumble sounding like metal on metal struggling to slide past each other roared through the murky depth. Twilight helplessly tried to surface but her body just wouldn't respond. Looking down into the abyss something began to slowly rise. Fear flooded the mare as she was forced to wait for a creature indescribable through any spoken words. As water rushed past her a humongous creature with a head looking much like a squid stood in front of her. "You are the one who must bring word of our awakening, you now will serve Us," the monstrosity rumbled in something unlike any language known in the universe, yet Twilight could understand what it meant perfectly clear. "As time nears our return is inevitable, rise to high priestess and summon Us, Twilight, it will be the end of your world," the monster threatened. "No I wont, I wont do it," Twilight struggled to find words to address the creature. The monster narrowed its gigantic eyes in annoyance. With one of its many tentacles it wrapped Twilight up and dragged her down into the endless ocean. Soon she could see a city that geometrically is impossible. "Our city shall once again rise, very soon indeed, raise it Twilight and obey or else your kind will be eradicated," "Who are you?" the terrified mare managed to choke out. "I am the high priest, I am Cthulhu," Twilight couldn't understand yet she understood, the concept made her head spin and made her feel sick. A bright beam of light shone down from the surface to the darkness of the bottom of the ocean, in the light a book sunk down in front of the sickly green mare. The mysterious being Cthulhu just stood silently and Twilight grabbed the book. The book had on the from the word 'Necronomicon'. The book seemed to wiggle itself from Twilight's grasp and opened itself. On the page it stopped on it was completely blank until blood began to fall from the golden beam shimmering down from the heavens. The image of the forsaken city bled unto the page. "Go Twilight, we are ready to be awaken," Cthulhu said. The Necronomicon snapped shut and Twilight was released from the beast's grasp. Slowly she sunk down to the bottom of the black ocean. A ray of sunlight shone of Twilight as chirping birds brought Twilight from her slumber. She shot up from her bed gasping for air. Silently she scanned the room waiting for her thumping heart to slow down. "Ha just a dream," she said with a sigh of relief. A quick knocking at the door caught her attention. Quickly hopping from bed she rushed down the stairs. Opening the door she saw no one in sight, but she did see something wrapped in cloth. "I wonder what that could be," she puzzled levitating the book up into the air and bringing it inside. She set down the object and quickly unwrapped it, what she saw made her heart sink, there on the from was the dreadful word she saw earlier, 'Necronomicon'. She stumbled back and felt instantly sick to her stomach. "It, it can't be," she stammered in absolute horror. The sound of thunder bellowed deeply over head as clouds began to take up the sky. More knocks came to the door and Twilight felt emanate dread as the door crept open. Standing in the path way was Apple Jack. Twilight let out a huge sigh seeing it wasn't any menacing being. "Somethin's goin on, some of meh farm animals gon missin an there's hoof prints everywhere," Apple Jack frantically said, "I don't know what anyone would do with em anyhow but I need ya ta come and look at some of the stuff there sugar cube. "Why? What's down there?" Twilight asked unsure of what the orange mare meant. "There's a buncha signs every where, I figured you may know somethin bout it," Apple Jack explained. Twilight's head sank, was the thing in her dream more than just a dream? Twilight turned around and grabbed the book, she quickly put on her saddlebag and plopped the book inside and the two set off for the farm. Everything seemed very quiet as they headed down to the farm, no one was on the streets and the unseen thunder continued to boom over head. The walk was brisk and when they got to the farm Twilight looked at the patches of grass bearing some sort of star with a flame in the center, other places she saw a leaf looking sign. The whole place made her feel on nerve. They wondered out farther until Apple Jack stopped Twilight and took her hat off. "Them bastards don even got meh dog," she said harshly pointing to a bloodied mess. Her dog had been cut to pieces, possibly just torn. Drawn with the blood was the same star with a flame in it, above the dreadful sign where the words, "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn". Under the sign was something that Twilight could actually read, it read "That is not dead which can eternal lie, yet with strange aeons, even Death may die". Nothing that she saw made any sense. Reaching into her saddle bag Twilight produced the forsaken book and flipped through the pages looking for the sign, she finally found a picture, a crude drawing of the same sign labeled, 'The Elder Sign'. The wind began to pick up and lightning lit up the sky. "It seems to be something called "The Elder Sign,"" she almost shouted over the wind, "I'm sorry but I have to go". She ran from the farm as fat as she could and didn't stop until she finally reached her home. When she was finally home she set down her saddle bag and tightly locked the door. "Hey where have you been?" asked Spike putting down the feather duster he was using to lightly dust off a few books. "I was just at Apple Jacks," she managed to squeeze out through gasps for air. Slowly trotting to the kitchen she saw it was already 10:30 p.m. "It can't already be 10, I wasn't out that long," suddenly a wave of drowsiness swept over the mare. She let out a long yawn and figured she must have been out much longer than anticipated. "Spike finish cleaning up I'm going to bed," she said climbing the stairs. "I already am," he shouted back. Crawling into bed she closed her eyes and quickly drifted off to sleep. "Soon Twilight, my prophet shall once again rise from his death and the ceremony shall commence," she heard the damned voice again but this time she was standing on solid ground and the bright full moon loomed overhead. Looking around the landscape seemed very familiar. "This is the forbidden city of R'lyeh," the sinister voice revealed. Twilight looked around and saw pillar jutting out at angles and in such a way she could not comprehend, she carefully felt the cold wet stone, it didn't feel like anything from earth. "Twilight, We come from the stars, We were the first on this planet, We claimed it for Ourselves. We were sealed by the Outer Gods, but even they could not seal for forever. There were several beings before your kind ever came into existence, several things that dwelled deep in the earth, deep in the ocean, and on land. The beings that summoned us last have since been destroyed, the humans have all died out millions of years ago and your kind shall follow," Cthulhu rumbled from his unknown position. "This door shall open, my seal will be broken," it hissed. The loud sound of shattering glass threw Twilight from her nightmare. "Twilight, help!" she heard Spike shout from down stairs. "I'm coming!" she yelled jumping from her bed and racing down stairs. By the time she got down there Spike was gone. The wind was picking up even more causing the curtains to blow around violently. "No! Who would want Spike?" she asked herself, "I've got to go and get him". She looked around the room until she found the Elements of Harmony, quickly she put those in her saddlebag and bolted out the door. She was debating whether or not to try to get the gang together but she figured she may lose the culprits trail also after seeing what happened to Winona she couldn't picture letting anything happening to Spike. She ran as fast as her legs would carry her and eventually the culprit came into view, all three. "Dammit I can't take on three ponies at once," she thought to herself, "I'll just follow them and then sneak him out". After following the three for a few minutes they stopped at an old run down building, no doubt condemned. Carefully and silently she came up to the entrance and peered in. The main room let to a corridor dimly lit, Twilight tip-toed over to the hallway and began down the hall. As she went closer and closer the light became brighter and brighter and finally she could see several ponies with their cutie marks cut from their flanks. They were all sitting around candles with the Necronomicon in the center of an alter. Twilight just remembered she never took the book out, feeling around her saddle bag there was nothing but the Elements. Looking farther in the room she gasped with what she saw, Spike and the mane six (except her) where all tied up. "Now we bring you back from death so that you may bring our god back from his death like slumber," one of the ponies an obvious stallion chanted. He nodded his head and another mare went over to a kennel and pulled Angel Bunny from it. It arms and legs where bound together. "Please accept this offering and come to us so that we may bask in the glory of the dark god Cthulhu," he chanted as the flames began to grow. The pony with Angel dropped him onto the altar next to the book. "No please don't hurt Angel please!" Fluttershy cried half in a daze. She was simply ignored as the stallion levitated up a dagger and drove it down into Angels throat. Angel squirmed and choked in his blood until finally he went limp and ceased to be. Fluttershy quietly sobbed to herself while Twilight sat in shock. The flames grew larger then went out, but the light in the small room remained. The smoke all came together and formed in a single mass, in the dark smoke Twilight saw piercing green eyes peer out, a red horn grew from the mass being formed. Her jaw fell as she saw the mass form King Sombra. Twilight slightly backed up, as she backed up she felt a hard object, she turned to see two ponies behind her. In one swift move she was thrown into the room, her head hit the floor with a sick cracking sound ringing throughout the room. She lifted her head to see the two ponies closing an unseen door locking her in the room. Her eyes shut and she blacked out. "Rise my child," King Sombra whispered. Twilight's eyes fluttered open, her mane was caked with her blood and her head was roaring in a numbing pain. She tried moving only to learn she was restrained like the others who were thankfully still alive. "Good, release her now," Sombra ordered to the cultist. The main cult leader levitated the dagger and cut the rope. "Now that you are awake you shall perform the ritual," Sombra ordered. "What are you talking about? What is all this about?" the frighten Twilight asked. Sombra chuckled softly to himself. "Many eons ago I was a cultist in a small group whose job was to awaken the dreaded Cthulhu. I rose to the high priest, I controlled many cults throughout the entire world. One day our work paid off, the nameless city rose up from the depth of the Pacific and then all hell broke loose. The stars where just right and we had awoken Cthulhu. The omnicide began and all were slaughtered. We, the cultist, were killed first, we died quickly and rather painlessly unlike the others. The dreaded Cthulhu came to me, he credited me with being the one who awakened him, I was bestowed with great power, magic that today would be rivaled only by your concept of god perhaps. Back so long ago I was a human, once I was killed I was transformed into a bodiless form of ash and smoke. My power was unbelievable, it was far greater than now. Me and the other cultist were rewarded. I went to universes far from this and brought dead, destruction, and torture. After what I believe was around 3-4 million years Cthulhu was once again sealed, for not everything was prepared just right. This time with your magic, which must come from human roots, is what we need," Sombra walked over to Twilight and placed the book down in front of her, "now Twilight you shall perform these spells and awaken Cthulhu so that once and for all He shall reign supreme!" Twilight was horrified by what she heard, she couldn't picture the massive amounts of slaughter that must have been as a result. "Why are you a pony then?" she asked trying to stall. "Oh yes that, Cthulhu was sealed, but I was not. I came from beyond the stars and spoke with the horrors that lie beyond, I learned from them how to summon our god. Before I could I was striped from my power, I fell back down to earth, however I still had power that no others did. What was left I used to cast a spell that revived millions of dead, since human bodies have been eradicated about a million before I had to use something else to put the souls the deceased in. There were few things left, there were birds, insects, snakes, and equines, there were a few others but never-the-less I went with equines. I don't know how they were preserved perhaps they were used by the cultist as sacrifices to Nuclear Chaos. Anyhow I used my power to breathe life into these creatures which gave way to a new era," he sighed, "and know this era is over, today will be the one millionth year that I did this. The first ones ever created," he began, "had something of a defect, some sort of mineral had gotten infused and that created the crystal ponies, I felt that they were the chosen ones to bring Cthulhu back from the dead. I enslaved them and made them search the land for the Necronomicon, one of the sole tools I would need to bring Him back. I have no idea who gave you the book that I spent years looking for but that doesn't matter, because now I have it". Twilight gulped, "I won't summon Him," she managed to say. Sombra laughed. "I knew you would say that that's why I went through the trouble of taking your little friends, you shall summon him or I shall skin them alive, I'll eat there freshly peeled skin and use them as a sacrifice," he laughed. Twilight couldn't let that happen, she would have to quickly do something. Standing back her horn began to light up, her eyes turned white and there was a bright flash in the room, her and the others were gone. "God dammit!" Sombra shouted, "don't just fucking stand there go and find them for fuck's sake!" Quickly the cultist flooded out of the room. Sombra turned to the book that lay on the altar and closed his eyes, he would bring back the dreaded Cthulhu. He took the book and left the hideout, he began to head towards the mirror pond. Meanwhile Twilight and the others were teleported far outside of town. The weather was even worst the sky was pitch black and rain was pouring from the sky. Without heist Twilight untied her friends. "What's going on?" asked Rainbow Dash instantly. "I'm not quite sure but I do know that we need to find Sombra and quick," Twilight quickly responded pulling out the Elements, "quickly put these one just incase". Everyone put on their respective Element and began to wonder where Sombra went off to. "Lets go an' check that hideout," Apple Jack suggested. "No he would have left by now," Twilight interjected. "Well I don't even know what's fully going on darling," Rarity chimed in. Twilight took a deep breath, "There are these things called The Great Old Ones, they are monsters to put it simply, one of the major ones is called Cthulhu and he was sealed on earth, apparently some of the gods came to earth before it was fully formed or something like that and they declared this are their planet, later they were sealed by the Outer Gods, when Cthulhu awakens we will all die horribly. Does that explain enough?" Twilight quickly said, Rarity just simply nodded her head. "Like my Autie always said, 'When in doubt go to the mirror pool and make a clone and talk your problems out with them because I'm busy and don't have time for your nonsense Pinkie'" Pinkie Pie said somehow still cheerful. Then it clicked, Sombra must be going there, if he can use power of Twilight's magnitude he could try to harness the power from the pool. It can make duplicates something Twilight can't even do. "I've got it he must have gone to the mirror pool! Quick lets go!" she shouted, but before they could rush off several cultist surrounded them, eight in all. "Twilight we can make these easy," a mare said. Before anyone could respond Rainbow Dash zipped over and delivered a blindingly fast kick to her neck, a loud snap rang out. "Only seven of you now," she snorted. The seven remaining all rushed her but Apple Jack quickly jumped on and delivered a powerful kick to several, the sound of bones snapping filled the air. Fluttershy ran over to a cultist and ripped his jaw from his skull. "That's what you get for killing Angel Bunny!" she screamed while tears ran down her face. Together Rainbow Dash and Apple Jack killed all the cultist except one. "Easy as findin hay in a hay stack," A.J. gleamed. "Yea we can celebrate later but now we have to go find Sombra," Twilight said heading off towards the lake followed by the others. Sombra was already there, he used his magic to carve stone into a proper altar for use and he sat down the Necronomicon to prepare the ritual. "If I can't use Twilights magnificent powers I'll just find an alternative, the most powerful unicorn couldn't just cooperate," Sombra went on to himself in a rage. Sombra began to incite the ancient words in the far off language used by the beings from beyond the stars. "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!" he chanted, using his magic on the pond the water began to bubble, first only slightly but soon it was nearly foaming. "Hahaha yes rise my lord, rise!" Sombra laughed. "I don't think that's going to be happening," Twilight said. King Sombra turned around to see the mane six. "So you killed all my men? Ha what should I expect of course you did, but anyhow you're too late," Sombra only smiled as the pool bubbled over, it had gone from a crystal clear pool to a pit of pitch black sticky liquid. Sombra jumped in. He was quickly engulfed by the tar like substance, his skin began to peel off and blood rushed from every exit in his body. Suddenly his laughter turned to horrible screams of agony, his jet black coat began to peel off showing tan skin underneath. "What? No, NO!" he screamed as all his body was boiled, from the pony form he had his original form showed, tan skin with shaggy dirty blond hair and green eyes. He shrieked and cried and his skin boiled. "NO MY POWER WAS SUPPOSE TO LAST FOREVER, FOREVER!" and with that he froze, his heart had finally bust and blood gushed from his eyes and mouth and nose and ears. Dark purple red spots showed on the left side of his slightly hairy chest. His dead body sank to the bottom to the tarry pit. Outside the thunder had become ear splittingly loud. Twilight quickly ran and took the book from the makeshift altar. "Okay girls let's go," Twilight said as they all rushed outside. Upon leaving the cave they saw a creature that struck the strongest fear into them they have ever felt. It was Cthulhu, he stood several miles taller than the ponies. "Holy shit," Apple Jack whispered. "It is time for our reign," the creature roared so loudly the thunder could not be heard. The ground began to split open and the same liquid that killed Sombra began to seep out. "We lost," Rainbow Dash said. "No we didn't," Twilight smiled. "What do you mean?" Spike asked. Twilight levitated the book up, the Elements all began to glow and everyone (except Spike) were lifted several miles into the air. Twilight began to incite the ancient spells, a magical binding shot up from the ground wrapping tightly around the gods slimy, scaly body. "What is this," its hideous voice boomed deafening the six, still Twilight did not let up on the spell and in one bright flash he was gone. The six slowly floated down safely. The ground was fixed and the storm ended. "Is it over?" asked Rarity. "Yes," Twilight responded *one week later* "So in honor of saving the world from peril I, Princess Celestia along with Princess Luna, recognize Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Apple Jack, and Rainbow Dash as heroes of all of Equestria," Princess Celestia announced to a huge crowd at the year's Grand Galloping Gala. "I can't believe the spell brought Angel Bunny back to life," Fluttershy said to Twilight. "Well you know its just a strong spell," Twilight answered. "Say what did you do with the book anyways?" R.D. asked Twilight. "I dumped it in that tar pit at the pond, I put up a magical barrier so that no one could get in," she assured everyone. "Well you did it again Twilight," Spike laughed, then they all joined in. *At the pond* The book glowed in the dark lifeless room illuminating the cave. From the tar rose Sombra, what was left at least. Bones stuck out where patches of skin were removed completely. He tried to stretch to reach the book but couldn't. His head went down and the book opened. "Haha yes," he whispered to himself. His joy was short lived however, the book began to suck him in, he let out his last scream as he was sealed in the book most likely forever. The End.
