Dreams are to be fought for

It was early in the morning,yet another beautiful day that start in Canterlot. Nearly a month after the defeat of Tirek  Equestria enjoyed again its usual peace and quiet...suddenly a shout broke the silence of this quiet and peaceful morning "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"  The shout came from a young bat-pony who was woken up by a nightmare. strange isn't it? a bat-pony awake in the morning when the other of his kind just went to sleep. Well our bat-pony isn't exactly like the others.

Night Sky was his name, he had a dark blue coat with bat wings that were also blue but somewhat darker than his coat with a lighter leathery wing membrane. his body looked rather athletic and aerodynamic in shape showing that he trained a lot and was careful with his diet. His muzzle while thin was definitely that of a stallion. his mane was cyan, straight and long. His ears like that of  any bat-pony were fluffy, and finally he had purple eyes with round pupils, yes not slit but round pupils.His cutie mark was a black shield with a dark purple out line, which had a moon crescent that held a lightning bolt on it.

Night Sky was currently panting heavily because he was still panicked from his dream, suddenly the door of his room opened and a pegasus mare entered the room.

She had a long curly jet black mane,a light gray coat, and purple eyes. Her cutie-mark was a moon crescent  with a music note. She was Nocturne Whisper, Night's mother.

"Are you okay sweety?" Nocturne asked with concern obvious in her eye.

"Everything is fine mom. It was just a nightmare" Night said with a soft smile.

"......Let me guess, it was about the entrance test at the Wonderbolt Academy right? you are afraid of failing right?" Nocturne asked since Night had this nightmare for weeks.

"Yes, again I failed and everypony laughed at me" Night said bowing his head.

Nocturne gave her son a hug "Do not worry, I am sure you will do just fine. you have trained during four years just for this. so everything will be alright. Beside it's in a week.

Everything will be alright" she said with a warm smile.

"Thanks mom.....but you do remember that it's my fourth try, right?" Night said.

Then rough voice was heard "Fourth! You never even tried kiddo! every time you just give up!You are just a sorry loser, I start to understand why your father went away without even bothering with you!" all of this was said by a pegasus stallion with an emerald green coat, yellow eyes, a short messy brown mane and matching tail. His cutie mark was a shield with a balance on crossed with a sword .

Nocturne sighed "Blade...this is not really kind of you...to-"

Blade cut Nocturne in the middle of her sentence "Oh please Nocturne! your son is just pathetic! it is of no use to dream, this won't put any food on the table!Beside there has never been a single bat-pony in the Wonderbolts he will have to face prejudices far to high....." Righteous Blade said casting a disapproving look at all the Wonderbolts poster that covered the walls of Night's room.

Blade was Nocturne's husband and technicallyNight's stepfather. Blade was part of the royal guards and as such was very disciplined and the fact that Night was a dreamer that had no concrete project in his life served only provoke arguments between the two stallion. The arguments were pretty one sided since Night never replied, just silently accepting everything Blade threw at him.

"Still, you are kind of harsh with him" Nocturne said saddened by the relation that her husband and son shared.

"Oh come on! Not only is he so afraid of failing he don't try , but he also don't even try to do something else! he is a worthless waste of flesh and space!But well I guess he take after his father, I'm sure he was just a worthless drunkard! we should already have kicked him out!" Blade ranted glaring at Night Sky.

This time it was too much for Night Sky who flew out the window "Look at that he fly away from his responsibilities....and you would like me to accept him as part of my family? Never.....I will never accept that brat as mine!" Blade said leaving the house slamming the door behind him.

Night flew toward a nearby square, there he sat on the bench and began to cry his heart out. Blade had just hit his most sensitive chord:his true father. Night knew next to nothing about his father making him imagining everything, including that he simply did not want him and abandoned him. And to make the matter worse his mother refused to talk about him.

A group of ponies walked by and noticed Night Sky "Hey look what we have there, Night  Sky the wimpy freak!" one of them said with a huge smirk.

"Oh no....not them again!" Night thought not wanting to deal with those ponies, these guys always bullied him since Elementary school, and kept doing so ever since.

"Hey we have heard that you want to become a Wonderbolt....what a laugh! if you think they will even consider recruiting a wimp like you, keep dreaming!" one of them said.

"they take only the best of the best like me for example"  this was said by an arrogant pegasus that Night Sky recognized as Flashing Ace. crimson coat,short white mane, yellow eyes, a winged spade ace for cutie mark,  an  arrogant and snobbish look on his face,It was definitely him. This pegasus think that success is in his gene and that victory will always be his. And so far nothing proved him wrong yet; he managed to win multiple medals and trophies in various flying sports which made him overconfident and arrogant.

"Please do us a favor and give up. Some are destined for success like me, and others like you are just meant to be losers who will stay in the shadow of their better" Ace said with a smirk as Night bowed his head and more tears flowed down his cheeks.

Meanwhile Rainbow was flying around Canterlot.  She had come with her friends to accompany Twilight to her meeting with the other princesses. But as expected it bored her out of her mind, and she decided to take a flight. when she flew by the square she saw and heard everything. she was now fuming  "Those bastards! they need a good lesson!" she thought angril, then she looked around and smirked "a rather electric lesson" she added in her mind.

Rainbow flew to a nearby cloud and a big smirk showed on her face as she jumped on it provoking a thunder bolt that scared the bullies away from Night. She landed next to Night "Are you okay?" Rainbow asked.

"Huh.....yes I guess.... why did you help me?" Night replied still shaken by the sudden lightning bolt.

"What a weird question! since when do you need reasons to help somepony? Beside this guy did not had the right to say these things!" Rainbow said still fuming because of what she had heard earlier.

"No he is right...I'm just a loser......that's what everypony tell me....I am not wonderbolt material" Night said bowing his head in shame.

Rainbow was shocked "What?!So that's it! you're gonna give up?! just like that? " she asked

"Yes.....I always dreamed of it....but it seem impossible....totally out of reach....I mean look at me! a bat-pony who want to be a wonderbolt....nopony will take me seriously....after all there has never been a bat-pony in the wonderbolt before" Night said sadly keeping his head down.

"Okay, now you will listen to me. A dream is not always something easy to realize and you gotta fight to do so when it's not! Nopony is gonna do it for you, it's all about determination" Rainbow told him with passion.

"But I don't even believe in myself!" Night replied

"Then we gotta change that" Rainbow said looking at Night dead in the eyes.

The young bat-pony was shocked. It was the first time that somepony, other than his mother, was actually kind to him.A thousand of questions formed and flooded Night's mind; but the one that came out of his mouth was "Why are you trying to help me?"

Rainbow thought for a moment "I guess, I don't want to see you give up your dream....because I know how hurtful it is to do that. I nearly gave up my dream of being a wonderbolt once. When I was a filly I had an accident. the doctors thought I would never fly again because they mixed up my file with sompony else's...it took them three days to realize the mistake.These three days were enough for me to imagine my life forever stuck on the ground" Rainbow explained with sadness and a lot of pain, a small tear slowly made its way down her right cheek as she remembered these three days stuck in her own hell "Believe me, you can't want to truly give up your dream....it hurt too much"

Night was now deep in thought "So she nearly has lost her dream? then he dared to look back at Rainbow "Did it really hurt that much?" he asked uncertain.

"I'd say that's that it hit me harder than anything else in my life.....I did not eat or sleep....I just thought about what I had lost, crying over my broken dreams. It is really something I would never want anypony else to live" Rainbow said truthfully.

Night seemed to hesitate, would this mare's help really change anything "Do you really think you can help me?" he asked.

Rainbow nodded "If you trust me I can help you" she said.

Night nodded "Okay...my name is Night Sky, and you are?" he said with a small smile.

"I'm Rainbow Dash!" she replied with a cocky smirk.

Night's jaw hit the floor in shock "You got to be kidding me?! Rainbow Dash? the very first peagasus to manage the legendary Sonic Rainboom?! The element of loyalty?! this Rainbow Dash?!" he asked out of shock.

"Eeyup! that's me" Rainbow beamed with pride"But please I don't need more fans....Scootaloo and her club is more than enough,j but we can be friends" she added with a chuckle.

"A....friend? ........you really mean it?" Night Sky asked,unsure because it was hard to believe that somepony like her, a pony so cool, would want to associate with the local freak .

Rainbow nodded "Of course!" she said with a big smile.

Night had a few tears, but this time tears of joy "I-I never had a friend before" he said as his smile widened showing his small fangs.

This confused Rainbow who did not understood why he would not have friends"Really?.....Doesn't matter! Now you do! And I won't let you down!" Rainbow said trying to cheer her new friend up.

"Thanks...and yeah....it was because I was....well am the bat-pony freak"  Night said, which got him a hit on the head from the rainbow maned mare.

"Ouch!What's the big idea?! that hurt!" Night exclaimed, giving a glare that quickly melted away when he saw the look Rainbow gave him. She was currently floating with her forelegs  crossed, she was staring at him right in the eyes.

"That was for saying you were a freak. From now on I will help you building up confidence. But the first thing will be to stop belittle yourself for Celestia's sake!" Rainbow replied obviously annoyed but determined to help her new friend.

Night Sky nodded "O-okay...." he muttered hesitantly under his breath, making it difficult do guess what he said.

Rainbow sighed and face-hoofed "Looks like  we got a lot of work to do...."

Night chuckled nervously while thinking "What did I get myself in?!" he was truly panicked since he did not knew what was going to happen.

Rainbow noticed that the sun had began to lower "Well, now I gotta fly back to the castle, my friends are waiting for me. But tomorrow morning we will meet here to begin your training" Rainbow said then she took off toward the castle. Night Sky was shocked "Training?! What training?!" Night exclaimed .

Rainbow stopped and came back to him " You wanna be a wonderbolt or not?" she simply asked.

"Y-yes of course...."  Night muttered

"Okay...we will have to begin now" Rainbow Dash thought seeing how the problem was bigger than she imagined "Excuse me, I did not hear what you just said. Say it louder!" the prismatic pegasus  mare told Night.

"O-of course I want it" Night replied

"You want what?" Rainbow demanded looking at Night right in the eyes.

"to be a wonderbolt" Night said with little conviction.

"Louder! and with some guts for crying out loud!" Rainbow shouted at Night who was now scared of the cyan pegasus mare.

The young bat-pony gulped nervously "Get a hang of yourself Night! she is trying to help!" he thought as he forced himself to stand tall"I want to be a wonderbolt!" Night shot back now  looking right into Rainbow's rose eyes.

Rainbow smirked "At last!Now we are going somewhere!So, are you ready to do anything for this to come true?" the cyan pegasus mare inquired.

Night nodded and smirked back "Ready to go to hell and come back" he replied.

Rainbow Dash chuckled "Awesome! that's what I wanted to hear!" she said.

Her chuckle made Night slightly uncomfortable "Oh something tell me I should not have said that!" the bat-pony thought shuddering at the idea of what Rainbow could possibly now have in store for him.

"Now I really got to go, my friends must be asking themselves where I went." Rainbow said as she took off " So remember! Here,Tomorrow in the morning!" she added before leaving Night who flew back to his house.

On the way Night smiled "Things are getting better....maybe, just maybe my dream will come true" he thought as he opened  the door "Hey mom, I'm back" he said as he went to hug Nocturne.

"Oh Night! You scared me! Don't do that ever again!" Nocturne replied hugging her son tightly.

Blade who had come back after a long day of work glared at Night "So you are finally back. You have decided to stop your little tantrum?Are you finally going to do something with this life of yours?" he said mockingly and scornfully.

What happened next was something that nor Blade nor Nocturne expected, Night smiled at Blade "Yeah, I'm going to do what I always wanted to do and nopony will be able to talk me out of it" he said looking at Blade right in the eyes.And this without flinching or cowering away as he usually would.

Blade was shocked "Did that wimp finally grew some backbone? that would be a good thing....but I'll have to be sure it is for real. I'll just watch and see....I guess" he thought. Blade scoffed after regaining his composure "Finally! at least you stand up for yourself!May be you are not a total waste of flesh and space" he said.

"My! these are the kindest words you actually had for me since we have met!" Night said with a smirk.

"Get used to it brat!" Blade shot.

Nocturne chuckled at her husband's and her son's antics "Boys, diner is ready!" she said.

Meanwhile at the castle Rainbow landed on the balcony of her room, and went to find her friends.

"Hey girls" Rainbow said cheerfully.

"Hey there Rainbow, out of curiosity where were you? I haven't seen you during the whole day" Rarity asked.

"Oh just took a flight because everything here was so boring! I also made a new friend!" Rainbow said with a big smile.

"Really? well yah could tell us more about this friend of yers during diner" Applejack replied with a chuckle pointing to a nearby clock.

Rainbow nodded and they all went to eat.
