The one that got away

Blending in

it was a misty morning, as a changeling once again found himself stranded and hurt after yet another failed invasion. Feeling not much through a thick haze of pain, he shook his head to clear it, grumbling about something under his breath. This'll be the last time I ever listen to Chrysalis..... I'll need a look around. He tried hard, but with so little energy left, he managed to change into a black stallion with a broken horn disguise. The eyes were just about the same though.... compound-ish blue. He looked himself over... and except for a damaged wing and a broken horn, he found himself about okay with minor scratches. Well.... I can try at least to blend in... Not the worse case scenario. Another burst of emerald flames and the eyes were deep blue pony eyes. But I absolutely need to rest. That was one awful fall.... well, what I remember anyway. As he got to his hooves, and walked out of the ally, he indeed was still kinda in Canterlot... but somehow in that alley. He looked around. Repairs were being done to the damages the changelings had ravaged on the extravagant city by some unicorns. One of these was a gold unicorn, with a deep golden mane, and glasses with a bronze frame. He wore a nametag that red, "Goldenrod" and was busy fixing a hole in the ground when he spotted the disguised changeling. He was wearing a red vest.

"Dear me, "He replied with an astonished look and a worried tone, "May I be of assistance? You've broken your horn."

The disguised changeling thought this over before he replied, " I'm so sorry sir. My name is Indiego. I'm awfully new here." It wasn't a total lie. He had chosen to live here about a month prior to the invasion, and it was only pure luck that had kept him here from being discovered.

"Well, Indiego, I'm Golden Rod, but you can call me Rod for short. Can you still use magic with your horn like that?"

"I..i don't know." He tried hard, and was vastly surprised when his magic came anyway, but a bit weak. It flickered a bit when he used it. And the surprises just keep coming....

"That's good." Replied Rod with  cheerful tune. "Say, would you like to help us re-build the town? We could use all the help we can get."

"I'd love to." I'll need a place to stay though..... "My house was destroyed during the... invasion." He had said the last word with disgust. He couldn't believe how an entire army could be so stupid to get defeated so many times.

"But I'd recommend not using magic." Added Rod. "You can stay with me until we fix your home."

How thoughtful.
