Alone.
That's how I found myself after one hundred years of self-banishment.
I awoke in a dark room filled with emptiness. I could see nothing. Was I even awake? I tried waving a hoof around, and I was glad that I could.
I sniffed and the air was stale. I put my hooves on the floor and tried walking.
I walked out the door.
I then found myself deep in a gloomy forest. For miles in all angles, there were trees. Trees that stared at you, as if they had faces.
I was so very scared. And so very alone.
I looked to the sky. The moon was full and there wasn't a mare in it. Had Nightmare Moon returned?
I sighed. Tree branches rustled in the wind. I looked to the sky again, in hopes of finding something that could help me. Guide me.
I caught a flash in my eye. A flashing star. Although I was terrified, I ran towards it. I ran through the trees.
...
I had been running for at least two hours now. I was sure I was being followed.
At last, I reached a marking. An old castle, the Castle of the Two Sisters.
It was in a clearing too, so I used my wings to fly up, and search for nearby settlements.
I saw one.
I looked down and a timberwolf was trying to get at me.
Ignoring it, I flapped towards the yellow roofs in the near distance. Little did I know that the timberwolf wasn't the thing following me, for a pegasus, darker than the night sky, lept out, destroyed the timberwolf and took me down from the sky.
I was never so scared in my long life.
