Equestrian Blood Mage: The Scent of Blood

Twilight wasn't the first Blood Mage to use her power to try to save the innocent. Five centuries ago, Equestria wasn't the bright, happy place it is today. No, far from it. Five centuries ago, the guard had to get citizens to help find criminals that were hiding in the grimy back streets of the big cities. Those citizens were private investigators, or PI's. Those PI's had a dangerous job, and quite a few of them were killed in the line of duty, attempting to protect those that couldn't protect themselves. Only the dangerous survived.

That's where I come in. My name is Blood Scent, and I'm about as dangerous as a pony can get. I roam the streets, looking for the big criminals. Killers, rapists, slavers, mob bosses. The ponies no pony else wants to hunt down, and that the judges would have no problems being brought in dead. You see, I don't use regular means to find and take down these crooks. I use something even more damning than their deeds. I use the forbidden art of Blood Magic. Not that anypony would ever suspect me. After all, what kind of earth pony can use magic?

This is more a side story/prequel than a sequel. It starts after Brick Houses, though only tangentially. Reading the original is not required, but just know that the opening won't make sense.
