"Pull the needle through this loop."
"Like this?"
"No, no Discord. Let me show you. You grab the yarn then do this," Fluttershy demonstrated.
Discord gazed at the needles and yarn in Fluttershys hooves, watching with great concentration as she made the stitch.
"Now you try."
He turned his attention back to his own set of needles and yarn that sat in his paw and claw. He furrowed his brow as he tried to manipulate the yarn through a loop Fluttershy already prepared. But to his frustration the needles where too hard for him to grip and it was no use.
Discord made an irritated grunt, "I give up, this is utterly useless!" He declared as he threw the needles and yarn onto the floor. Acting like a spoilt foal he slumped back into the chair and folded his arms with another annoyed huff.
Fluttershy giggled, "You'll get the hang of it someday," she encouraged as she continued with her own knitting.
"I highly doubt that," Discord mumbled, glaring at the ball of yarn on the floor as if it had just insulted him.
"I guess I'll go make some tea then," he sighed.
Fluttershy beamed at the offer, "Oh yes, thank you Discord!"
Discord listened to the harmonious humming that Fluttershy was making while she was knitting as he fumbled through the cupboards in the kitchen. He pulled out a large purple and green chequered mug, his favourite, and a smaller light pink one with white polka dots, Fluttershys favourite.
"What is it your knitting there anyway Fluttershy?" he called from the kitchen.
Fluttershy stopped her humming, "Oh it's a scarf for you, Discord."
"It is?" Discord questioned as he filled the kettle up with water from the tap.
"Yes. Well the weather team are planning for the weather to become more harsh in a few days. So I thought I would make you a scarf to keep you warm." She smiled as Discord poked his head, he happened to be sporting a purple fedora, around the door to give her a look and roll his eyes before turning back and placing the kettle on the stove.
"You really don't have to Fluttershy, I will be fine. Besides, I could just snap my talons and I could have a scarf the length of Equestria! Sometimes I feel as though you forget the powers I have my dear."
"Yes, well no. But I really wanted to make you one anyway."
"Your rather odd Fluttershy," Discord said as he entered the room with a tray that held the mugs, sugar, tea bags and tea pot. He snapped the tuft on his tail which made a basket full of yarn that was on the coffee table form four legs and jump off of the edge. He then replaced the spot where the basket had been with the tray as the basket circled on the floor and contently lay down.
Fluttershy put down her tools and yarn beside her and leaned over to grab a tea spoon from the sugar pot. She added one spoon full of sugar into her mug, then seven into Discords as he poured the tea into them.
"Any plans for the rest of the day?" Discord asked as he slouched onto the chair to sit beside Fluttershy, his mug clutched in his paw.
She made a noise as she thought and brought her own mug of tea towards her. "I don't think I really have much else to do other than tend to the animals." She glanced at a clock that sat on top of the fireplace, "It's getting rather late however so it won't be long until I should head to bed." She brought her mug towards her lips and took a large sip of the tea, making a sound of appreciation.
"Mm, you're right," Discord agreed before taking a large sip from his own mug.
"Why? Was there something you were hoping to do?"
"I'd be lying if I said there was. Anyway, I think we need some biscuits to accompany this tea."
Fluttershy nodded in agreement as she placed her mug back onto the tray and lifted up her knitting needles to continue with it. She let out a small and soft yawn just before Discord entered the kitchen.
A few moments later Discord returned with a tin filled with a variety of biscuits in his paw and and a half eaten biscuit in his claw, "We're starting to run out of the ones I like-" he paused mid-sentence then smiled. On the chair that sat in the front room of the cottage lay Fluttershy, completely passed out. The needles and yarn had fallen to the floor and her hooves hung off the side of the seat ungracefully. Discord couldn't help but grin to himself at how odd Fluttershy really was.
He shoved the half eaten biscuit that he was holding into his mouth and placed the tin onto the coffee table then walked towards Fluttershy. He reached out and carefully, as to not wake her, lifted her limp body up into his arms effortlessly. As he trailed up the stairs towards her bedroom he couldn't help but think about how many times he has had to do this for her. He didn't mind so much but he thought it funny how she always wore herself out so much that she unintentionally falls asleep in even the strangest of places. Discord remembered how one time he found her passed out in the garden, her head was sat on top of a half planted flower pot while her hoof held the flower she intended on planting. He teased her for days after that, saying he knew she liked getting close to nature, but not that close.
Discord opened the door to her room with his tail and walked over to her bed, fumbling around as he tried not to step on the animals that had chosen to fall asleep on the carpet. He bent down and with care placed Fluttershy onto her bed. He brought the sheets up to her chin and with a snap of his talons he made two extra blankets appear on top so to protect her from the cold that already filled the room. The smile on his face spread further as he heard her begin to softly snore.
Satisfied that she should be warm he snapped his talon to teleport to his own bed that awaited him in the front room, the sofa.
The morning came way too early for Discords liking and he had to resist every urge in his body to not make the sun disappear out of thin air. Shoving his blanket tightly over his head to block out the suns light he groaned and tried to drift back off to sleep. But all hopes of getting a few minutes extra rest was destroyed when a loud scream was heard followed by thundering hoofsteps down the stairs.
"Discord! Discord! It snowed! It snowed last night!" shrieked Fluttershy like a filly as she launched on top of Discords body to reach the window that was behind the sofa.
Discord winced as she stood on his stomach and open the curtains. The smile that was plastered on Fluttershys face remarkably grew in size and she gasped as she gazed at the beautiful scene. The world outside her front door was thickly blanketed in pure white snow that gleamed just like crystals as the sunlight hit it's surface.
Discord however didn't share her enthusiasm. "It's just snow Fluttershy," he mumbled.
"Oh but Discord it's just so beautiful and snow only comes once a year," Fluttershy continued to smile despite her miserable friend.
"But-" he was cut off and groaned when Fluttershy hopped off of his stomach, she lightly blushed and innocently smiled, "Oops, sorry." Fluttershy then cantered towards the front door, stumbling as she did in her excitement. Discord laughed to himself about how he's never seen her run so fast before, ever.
Fluttershy flung open the front door and yet again squealed with happiness before she bounced out into the cold without a second thought. Discord gave in to trying to rest and out of curiosity rose himself from the sofa to see what his odd friend was up to. He let out a large yawn, rubbing his eyes as he did before he pushed his paw and claw against his back to crack his spine into place. He walked sluggishly towards the door and peeped his head around the open door to see what his friend was up to.
Discord was rather surprised to find her rolling around in the soft snow, giggling with delight as she did. She was acting just as a foal would in a sweet shop. He had to hold onto a laugh as Fluttershy sat up from making a snow angel, her body and hair now layered in snow. She then lifted her chin up to the sky and stuck out her petite tongue as far as she possibly could to try and catch the still falling snowflakes.
"As I said yesterday Fluttershy, you're an odd pony," Discord laughed, his paw leaning against the front door arch and his claw on his hip.
Fluttershy giggled that he was right as she stood up and tried to brush the snow from her fur.
"Mm. Well seeing as your going to act like a loon at least wear something warm," Discord scolded, still smiling. He snapped his talons together and a pastel pink scarf wrapped itself around Fluttershys neck, followed by a matching pink bobble hat that was covered in embroidered white snowflakes and a white pom-pom.
"When you're done doing... whatever it is that you're doing. I'll have scrambled eggs on pancakes with hot sauce for breakfast," at this he turned around and headed back inside the cottage to prepare some coffee.
