* Unknown Time, Everfree Forest *
'Oh buck, oh buck, oh buck,' I thought as I ran through the brush. "Hurry up, Brilliant! It's gaining on us!" Crimson said. A stray root caught my foot as I was trying to
navigate the thick forest. I felt a nudge from behind as I struggled to regain my balance. "Keep going!" Crimson encouraged. We had been running for what felt like twenty
minutes, fleeing the manticore hell-bent on making us its dinner.
"Look! We can hide there!" I pointed a hoof at a hollow under the roots of a nearby tree.
"Sure!" Crimson agreed. "On three; One!.... Two!.... Three!" We both dove into the the space. We stopped and listened as the manticore rushed by, still believing that we had just turned
out of its sight.
"How did we get into this situation again?" I asked her.
!~ Flashback - Two Weeks - * Manehattan * ~!
"No son of mine is going to be some pansy-flank writer!" Steel Bearing yelled. "You're going into construction like me, or you won't live in this house!" He walked out and slammed the door to my room.
I stomped a hoof, "What the hay?! Whats wrong with writing?" I said to myself. I'm sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. My name is Brilliant Quill. Son of Steel Bearing and Agile Verve; my mother died when I was still a foal, so I live with my dad who always comes home drunk off his flank to give me
a verbal thrashing about my special talent, writing stories. Anyways, this has so far been the worst argument, telling me to either go into construction or get out. So me and my foalhood friend, Crimson Venture, set out to Ponyville. She insisted on going, even though I told her that I didn't want her to get in trouble or danger.
* Present Time, Everfree Forest *
"You ran away, and I followed to make sure you didnt get yourself hurt or killed, remember?" She said
"Oh, yeah, thats right." I replied.
"Whatever, I think the manticore is gone now... anyways, lets keep going." She said.
"Yeah," I agreed. "Which way now?" I hoofed the map to her from my saddlebags, "I'm no good with directions."
"Well," she pointed out, "the map says to go west for about 5 miles and we should be at the edge of the forest."
"Finally! We'll be free of this place!" I cheered.
"Yeah, Yeah lets get going, Quill."
"Okay, lead the way."
* Four hours later, Edge of Everfree *
"Okay, I'm tired. Let's stop for the night," I said.
"Fine, pansy," Crimson replied.
"Hey! No need to be harsh!" I whined.
"Whatever, go to sleep."
"Fine." I guess now would be a good time to describe us. I'm a golden eyed, brown coloured pony, medium length hair spiky at the end, blue with gold highlights and a flame-esque tail of the same colours and a quill-and-scroll cutie mark. Crimson is a green eyed, white coloured mare with the same hairstyle, but in red and green with a slightly longer tail of the same colour, with a green and white yin-yang cutie mark. She normally wears a black fedora, which was laying beside her head, out of harms way. I have had a crush on her for about three months; however, I've been afraid of what would happen if I told her, since she hasn't shown any signs of liking me more than a good friend. I layed awake for around ten minutes thinking of what could be if I could muster up the courage to tell her before sleep finally took me.
