The Gamer And The Singer
The Gamer And The Singer
Load Full StoryIt was a crisp, cool morning in Ponyville, and a few clouds dotted the sky. A fragrance of roses and wet leaves wafted through the town, reviving feelings of foalhood. As children ran about in the leaves, adults galloped about with deliveries, as this winter was said to be a nasty one. There were storms to the south, and high winds would almost certainly damage homes, crops, and stores. As the other children played, a young colt sat alone, playing a handheld device. He had to beat his high score, but with only one point left to go, it died. Frustrated, he dropped it on the table, thinking about what he was going to do. He heard a noise from behind him, and when he turned around, a ball hit him straight in the face.
"Ow! What the... you!"
Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon had run over to where the ball hit him, and they smirked. Diamond stepped up to him, and put on her best naughty mischief face. "Aww, poor Button, hit with a ball to the face. Stupid blank flank, you wanna get some? Too bad, loser!" She rammed him with her flank, sending him onto the ground. The two bullies giggled, and were about to head away, when Sweetie Belle came towards them. Seeing Button Mash on the ground, with the two oppressors nearby, she had a good idea of what had happened. Anger steamed in her, but she wouldn't risk detention to get back. Instead, she walked up to them, and put on her best innocent face.
"Hey, did you knock him over? Because I can guarantee you a visit with Princess Twilight Sparkle if you did... and I can guarantee it personally."
Diamond and Silver had looks of horror on their faces, and started shaking a little. Sweetie smirked, knowing they wouldn't dare mess around where Twilight was involved. Diamond squeaked and ran, and Silver followed, screaming. Sweetie couldn't help but laugh, and pulled Button to his feet. "Hey Button, you okay?"
He brushed himself off, smiling. "Yeah, they're just a bunch of friggin' idiots tryin' to get around in the real world, where their money can't save 'em. Anyway, how are you today, Sweetie?"
"I'm fine, though running into them kinda ruined my day for me. That's the bell, see you tomorrow, maybe?"
Button blushed on his brown buttony face. "Yeah, sure."
The rest of the day went on without much else happening, and they bid each other farewell. Sweetie went home laughing about the blush that Button Mash had exhibited, and wondered if he had bothered to notice his not so little problem. She doubted it, and giggled at his fail. Meanwhile, at that same time, Button was heading home. He just couldn't get the thought of Sweetie's face out of his mind. They went to bed that night dreaming of the other's face.

The evening was mild and cloudy, and leaves whipped about on the air. As it was Saturday, fillies ran around in the leaves, up trees, and around lampposts. Button Mash was taking a stroll, enjoying the crisp air and the crunch of leaves under his hooves. As he walked, he thought of Sweetie Belle. They had known each other for some time now, they were rather good friends, and they liked each other's company. He supposed they could have a relationship, if they wanted to. But complications, in example the dastardly dame duo, could also arise. He was on his way to Sugarcube Corner, after being tormented at school again. Damn if I don't wanna get 'em back, but what could I do? I don't have any glass swords, or anything else. He guessed he could make do with a stick, but at that moment he had arrived at his destination. Sitting in a booth, he took his handheld out, and tried again to beat his high score, but at that moment he heard Sweetie Belle walk in. He suddenly forgot all of his previous objectives, and peeked over the seat.
"Hey Scootaloo, that was rather cool, when you flipped over that roof."
"It was nothin'. Rainbow Dash could have done it twenty percent better."
The two fillies headed towards the counter. It seemed as if Apple Bloom had to be somewhere else, which suited Button just fine. He watched them for a while, until Scootaloo left, and it was just Sweetie Belle there. He decided it was now or never, and walked over to her.
"Hey Sweetie," said Button. "what are you doing here?"
Sweetie Belle was surprised, but smiled when she saw Button's face. "Hi Button! I was just here because I had some spare bits, and I was actually, kind of... looking for you."
Button was surprised even more than Sweetie. She had looked for him? He was happier now than ever before, and his heart was beating faster. He tried to find the words, but they weren't there. Stammering, he got them out. "You looked f-for... me? Why?"
"Because," said Sweetie, smiling. "I wanted to hang out some more. Just you and me. Come on."
She led him out of the confectionery, and the sun was setting over Equestria. They walked for a while, talking about their day, their families, and their lives. Sweetie Belle had been getting into gaming, and wanted to know when the new Pegasus' Row game was coming out. They talked of home life as well, until finally Sweetie found her destination. The hill just outside Ponyville was a perfect place for stargazing, and a lone tree stood on the top. They sat down under it, and gazed upwards. The stars twinkled overhead, and they cuddled together. As they continued gazing, Sweetie had a question. "Button, how do you think of me? Like... what am I to you?"
Well," said Button. "I really like you, and I have since I met you those months ago. I think of you as a bit more than a friend, but I've been afraid to say that to you. You're pretty, nice, and very helpful where you can be. And I enjoy listening to your voice when you sing. So, what do you think of me?"
"Well, you're really cute, especially when you blush. You're funny, you have a really funny voice when you joke, and I really enjoy being with you. And... I think I'd enjoy it if it could last longer." Sweetie blushed, knowing she had sounded a bit mushy, but Button didn't seem to mind it. He just snuggled back, and they saw a star, one single, lonely star, fly across the sky. But then another one joined it, and soon, many stars were cascading across the sky. As the shower of stars danced across the heavens, Sweetie decided it was now or never. And after praying no regrets to Celestia, she readied herself for a pivotal moment, and kissed Button's lips. He was shocked, but soon accepted it, and kissed back. As they did this, the stars danced, and the night was silent, save the breath of two lovers. They snuggled up together, and the night winds sang. And as they sang, the gamer and the singer knew, on this night, a new love was sparked.
Author's Note
Again, credit to the brilliant monsieur ButtonMash for le suggestion. I've actually wanted to do one of these, but never got around to it. It took him to get me off my lazy rear, and... actually, hold on... it took him to get me to switch my sitting position to write this.
And I suppose the song for this fic could be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj5JIowHi6Y.
Gotta have a theme song, am I right?
