Yes, you read that right, dear readers. Ponies trying to make themselves fatter. I can sense your shock and disbelief already, but it’s quite true. Why would anypony want to be fat, you ask! Why would anypony want to get fatter, I hear you cry! I spent some time around these lovers of lard to find out! Read on!
Years ago when getting online required knowing the right unicorn with the right equipment and the forums were strictly local, little underground communities sprang up all around from things as innocent as the local book club to more sordid midnight meetings between two (or three!) playful ponies. And it was there, deep in these groups and forums that a handful of earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns would father to discuss their attraction to the fuller figure; the plush plot versus a more delicate derrière. Colts and mares of all shapes and sizes were accepted and celebrated. Pictures would be traded, dates made, relationships forged.
Over time, those attracted to the larger than usual would admit to enjoying their ponderous partners pack on pounds, and it was in those discussions that the nascent GainerPony community was born. Growing from simple talks to trades of altered pictures showing their subjects in a far weightier light, sharing of erotic fiction involving pony protagonists growing heavier and heavier, and even recipes that didn’t shy away from gratuitous use of butter and sugar. Fantasy flab soon became relating as these recipes were put to use and it wasn’t long until, from Canterlot to Cloudsdale, you could find pictures of ponies modelling themselves at larger and larger sizes.
Some of these ponies, like young mare-model Chocolate Frosting—now tipping scales and fluttering hearts at a whopping 400 pounds—have managed to build up a following online as they ballooned up for all of the world to see. “Oh, I absolutely loved every minute of it,” says Frosting, who now maintains a fashion line for the plus-sized pony, “Wouldn’t give it up for the world. I almost feel sorry for all those mares who starve themselves to fit into a dress. I can eat whatever I want, as much as I want, and you know what? I’m beautiful and I’m happy.” The porcine pegasus has fans numbering in the thousands, many of whom don’t hesitate to send her tokens of their affections. “My fans are certainly going to see a lot more of me,” she promises between bites of a fan-mailed pastry.
In fact, her fans, and the fans of many other models get to see a lot more of them in person rather regularly. GainerPonies members from around Equestria frequently gather at regional conventions to celebrate corpulence in all its glory. A garish gathering of gluttons, you must be imagining! Not at all, forum-goers. I, your fabulous Forum Filly, managed to attend such a gathering held in Ponyville this past summer.
Far from a bunch of unkempt hogs stuffing their faces en masse, I found a very active bunch that wouldn’t look out of place at a Daring Do convention. Flabby friends from far and wide reunited; panels held about fat fashion, health, cooking, dating, modelling, and even writing; and aside from the theme and the relative rotundity of a majority of the participants, an outsider would have no idea that anything strange was going on at all.
That is, unless, you followed the after hours crowd.
The less foal-friendly events came after sundown, where the topics turned to more intimate affairs, and the models proudly displayed the fruits of their fattening labours on stage. Chocolate Frosting flaunted her curves, a far fatter earth pony who might’ve been related to the Ponyville Apple family nearly broke the stage under his enormous girth, and there were several others who might’ve been even larger! The room was energised, the crowds snapping photos and yelling words of encouragement to the extra large entourage. Silence soon fell however, as a grand scale was pushed onto stage alongside three of the largest creatures I’ve ever seen struggle into view. A young, though rather official looking pegasus by the name of Fuller Figures—barely any heavier than yours truly—welcomed the enchanted crowd to the final stage of the competition.
Dear readers, I was transfixed by the display that followed. It was not for the weak of heart! These ponies were massive beyond description, that they could move at all was a wonder. The eyes of the crowd revelled in their immensity. The aura of lust from those in the room were almost palpable—these wide whales were their wildest fantasies given flesh. Fuller Figures called out the first one, the Apple relative from earlier whose name I learned was Honeycrisp. A local boy, this young colt managed a slow waddle to the scale, belly brushing the very floor, the stage shuddering with each laboured step. I was mesmerised by the almost hypnotic sway of hundreds of pounds of blubber in motion, his cutie mark stretched to billboard-like proportions, head and limbs cushioned by rolls of fat. I was repulsed, dear readers, repulsed, and yet my eyes wouldn’t stop watching. It was impressive to see, and one could certainly see the handsome features in the fattened face. The crowd erupted into cheers as the scale flashed 800 pounds.
The next unicorn up couldn’t manage to move on her own without the aid of magic; you could see her horn strain with the effort of levitating her own bulk off the floor and on to the scale which, with the creaking of straining metal, flashed 1200. My mind boggled as the crowd once again erupted, colts and mares revelling in the sheer excess on display and all the tantalising treats that must have led to her current state. I caught Frosting out of the corner of my eye shovelling away an entire tray of cupcakes as she took in this unicorn’s girth. It wouldn’t be long until she was on stage like this.
The crowd quietened themselves as the final pony was called to the stage, their hushed whispers doing nothing to drown out the sound of deforming wood at the forefront of the room. All eyes rested on the winged mass that was easily the fattest, most obese pegasus you could ever see. Rolling Fog, a fitting name for this expansive Cloudsdale resident. It must always be dark skies beneath whichever clouds are strong enough to support his girth. If I didn’t see the bright, eager eyes, the comically useless wings, or the stretched-to-distortion cutie mark, I wouldn’t begin to identify him as a pony at all.
His body was almost swallowed up by the sheer amount of blubber that encapsulated him. You could see his hooves just barely pushing through rings of fat on four sides, his flanks were was big as a pair of couches, his belly like a beanbag chair that lifted him further from the ground than his wings could ever hope of doing now. No words could accurately describe what I saw that night. No words to properly convey how I felt watching this creature move—held aloft by a team of unicorns—the number 2000 flash up before the scale failed completely. The rest of the night was a blur of feasting, drinking and all manner of debauchery. All I could think of were these three blimps. I had to know why. Fuller Figures was happy to answer my questions in a later interview.
Forum Filly: “Thanks for coming, Fuller Figures.”
Fuller Figures: “Thank’s for having me. Happy to help you understand what you saw last night.”
Filly: “I suppose the first question is the obvious one: Why would anypony want to do this to themselves?”
Figures: “There’s quite a few reasons, I find. In any arena, you’re going to find those who want to be the best. Those who can perform the most powerful magic, gallop the fastest, fly the furthest. In this case, in our community, it’s ‘who can be the fattest.’ They do it out of love of competition, or love of food, or love of fat. Or all three!”
Filly: “But those ponies were immobile! Literally too fat to move! How could anyone be happy like that?!”
Figures: “The same way, I suppose, that one would be happy fitting into a size one dress. They like being big, they like being able to eat without a care, they find pleasure in gluttony and pleasure in obesity. That the competition has even gotten to this point is just a natural continuation of this trend. Way back when all of this started having a pony over 400 pounds was a rare sight, but now that it’s easily achievable ponies interests have skewed to larger and larger sizes.”
Filly: “What about their health? What about their families and what other ponies think? Isn’t this just blatant disregard for health and decency?”
Figures: “The same disregard a mountain climber may have for their own safety, perhaps. We take precautions. Some ponies want to climb mountains, others want to be as big as them. Ponies come to me when they’re looking to grow to those sizes, Rolling Fog has been a long-time client in fact. Health is a primary concern, of course, but in the end… it’s their lives, they’re free to do what makes them happy. Right?”
While I may personally not be able to understand why, I can’t denounce what they’re doing either. What I saw was a group of very happy ponies doing what they love, no different to you or I, and while it might be strange to us, it’s what works for them. So eat, drink, and be merry, dear readers! Those extra pounds might go straight to your plot, but you never know who might appreciate it! Until next time, this is your Forum Filly, signing off.
Chapter 01: Fuller Figures
“What is your name?”
“The name’s Sundae. Sundae Brunch, ma’am.”
The grey mare looked over Sundae Brunch with a piercing glare. Her eyes darted, reading every fibre of his being in turn, the way his purple mane sat, how his stomach just slightly brushed the floor, analysing up close even the downiest feathers upon his wings. She hummed finally, “I’d say you’re about… two-seventy?”
“Two hundred and seventy three!” Sundae corrected, beaming.
She trotted wordlessly to her desk, not speaking until she was comfortably seated, leaning somewhat threateningly across the desk top. “So why do you want to be in the big leagues, Sundae Brunch?”
“Because I want to be the biggest!” he smiled widely just from the thought, “Bigger even than Solar Eclipse,”
The mare’s eyebrow twitched, “You want to be bigger than the fattest pony to ever grace Celestia’s green earth? Equestria’s record fattest pony for the last six years running?”
Her tone was sceptical, almost seething, but it didn’t phase him, he just nodded, “I think six times is enough for one pony to win a record,”
She leant back, her seat creaking under her pear-shaped rump, “So why come to me?”
“You’re Fuller Figures!” he announced enthusiastically, tugging photos and clippings from his saddlebag and onto the floor, “I’ve been following your work for years! Making ponies fatter than their wildest dreams! Turning the most athletic pegasi into immobile lardballs, the most prim unicorns into ravenous gluttons, the smallest molehills into the biggest mountains!” he paused a moment to calm himself, “I’ve wanted to be fat my entire life. Very. Very. Fat.”
Ms Figures gave the creamy-coloured pegasus another appraising glance, breaking silence a few moments later, “You’re not the first to come in here wanting to be the fattest in Equestria, you know,” She unseated herself and moved to an adjoining wall covered in neatly aligned frames, each depicting one of her previous clientele. She motioned to the first, a pastel blue pegasus Sundae recognised from his research. Her swollen gut practically beached her in place, and even if it hadn’t, her jumbo sized rear probably would. “Summer Skyes. She came out of here five times larger than she came in. Held the record for just one year,”
She noticed Sundae’s eyes light up hungrily at the phrase ‘five times larger.’ She continued.
“And this is Honeycrisp,” she motioned to a pale red whale of a stallion, the wide-angle photograph not doing his size justice, “Came from Sweet Apple Acres here in town, actually. Held the record for two years. Always wanted to take up one of those acres himself,”
Sundae was salivating visibly. Fuller pretended not to notice as she moved to the next photo.
“Solar Eclipse,” she pointed to a frame noticeably wider than the others, “the most gluttonous, most ravenous, most can-do pony I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was more than twelve tons when he left here, and I have no doubt he’s even larger now,”
The frame was filled by this pony, his body so swaddled with lard that it was hard to identify his features—his head, hooves, and even cutie mark difficult to pick out from the rolling hills of fat. Sundae pulled himself closer, managing to locate the unicorn’s smiling little face, utterly smothered by his cheeks and chins. He drank in the pony’s massive form. “I’ve read all about him. I’ve got a photograph of him on my wall too, of the last time he weighed in for the record,” he went on, voice shaking in excitement, “He was so heavy it took fifteen unicorns to lift him onto the scales! And photos from his celebratory buffet too where he ate the most anypony had ever managed in one sitting! It was incredible! Inspiring!” he blushed, hushing his tone, “Hot.”
Fuller raised an eyebrow, taken aback by the passionate tirade and the look of hunger and lust in Sundae’s eyes. She cleared her throat, softly snapping him back to reality, “It’s going to be a challenge beating Solar Eclipse. You see, he didn’t just want to win the title, he wanted to keep it. A natural glutton, he just kept growing and growing. I don’t think he’ll ever stop, honestly. He loves being able to eat like that, and more than that, he loves being fat and getting fatter. He lives for it,”
She watched him intently, trying to gauge his reaction. A few people a year came into her office looking to outgrow Solar—so far, all had failed to outdo even Summer Skyes. She was at least getting better at recognising a failure.
“I live for it too!” Sundae bounced on his hooves, sending his heavy gut into waves of ceaseless jiggling, “I mean, that’s what I want! I want to eat more than anypony’s eaten before! I want to feel myself spread wider, grow heavier, and take up as much space as possible! I want to eat more than anypony has ever eaten before! I was so happy when I got too fat to fly, and I dream of the day I’m too fat to trot! It means the world to me!” He rose up and placed his hooves on Fuller’s shoulders, resting his weight on his gut, “I want to be bigger than Solar Eclipse. I want to be bigger than anypony ever will be. And I’ll do anything, whatever it takes, to do it. I promise. Please Ms Figures… help me do this?”
Fuller looked sternly back into Sundae’s pleading eyes; a strict, calculating look that burned into him like she was reading his very soul. She bit her lip and relented, “Alright, I’ll take you on,”
Chapter 02: The Rules of Consumption

Chapter 02: The Rules of Consumption
Sundae waddled into class the next day jittery with excitement. He was here, in the Mecca of weight gain! So many of his heroes had passed through these doors before steadily outgrowing them, and he was now following in their hoofsteps, intending to outgrow them all!
He had spent the previous evening gorging himself in celebration, downing through determination alone over a dozen hayburgers and fries (each with a milkshake, of course). Combined with the top-up breakfast he’d guzzled just an hour ago he was feeling pleasantly full and just a little bit lethargic. Despite this he was disappointed to find that his solitary desk wasn’t piled high with food and gainer shakes in time for his arrival.
“Good morning, Sundae Brunch,” Fuller said without looking up from her paperwork, “I hope you had a pleasant evening,”
Sundae blushed, remembering how much he’d eaten since learning he was to be student to the Fuller Figures.
She raised her head, knowing instinctively everything he had done since the day before, “Don’t worry, everypony does it,” she smiled softly and motioned Sundae to his desk, where he found a large cushion available to him in place of a chair.
Fuller stood up and started pacing back and forth around the front of the vast, empty room, evidently still deep in thought. After a moment, she began: “This is the only formal lesson you will receive here. There will be no examination, no homework, and you are graded by how well you take what I say to heart. Your reward, so to speak, for following my tutelage is that you will grow and grow dramatically, perhaps more than you could have imagined,” she paused for a moment, “Do not follow what I say, and you will fail. Understand?”
Sundae paused, wings in a panicked flutter. Failure? It hadn’t hit him until this very moment that he was really, actually doing this; taking the first steps to the future he dreamed of for so very long. Was it even possible he could fail? Was there more to this than just eating beyond his heart’s content? More hesitantly than he intended, he responded “Y-yes, m’am,”
Fuller eyed her student before continuing, “In which case, we shall begin,”
Fuller trotted over to the blackboard at the front of the room and took flight, she hovered near the top of the board, scrawling in a loopy cursive the words “The Rules of Consumption.”
She removed the chalk from her mouth but remained flying, her wings pushing a light breeze in Sundae’s general direction, “The Rules of Consumption are just that, they are the rules, the guidelines, the laws—whatever you want to call them—to gaining as much as possible in as little time as possible. It is up to you to remember and enact them all, however I’m going to cover the most important ones with you now,”
Sundae looked around his desk to see if he had something to write these down with. He didn’t. He didn’t think a class in gaining ludicrous amounts of weight would actually involve writing.
Fuller went on regardless, “Rule fourteen: choose quantity over quality. If you’re gonna spend ten bits on a hayburger then get ten of the cheapest, greasiest burgers you can find. None of this ’gourmet’ burger stuff you see nowadays, alright?”
The pudgy pegasus nodded, thinking back to past feasts and gorges. “I already do that, ma’am. Quantity over quality, even if it’s not all that healthy,” He saw a faint flicker of a smile in her lips. He smiled back.
“That said, rule fourty-two: everything is fattening if you eat enough of it. Just because you’re not eating, say, a three-tiered quadruple chocolate sponge cake, doesn’t mean you can’t get fatter. Whether it’s a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers, it’s still a ton,”
Sundae thought about that one for a while, something his teacher noticed with a hidden smile. A ton is a ton. Quantity over quality. Almost the same thing, but it resonated in him. The eager gainer had daydreams of his training here being full of the most decadent, elaborate dishes. But it made sense. A ton of fat from hayburgers was the same thing as a ton of fat from a gourmet meal, would be easier to do, and probably far faster. He saw himself eating mountains of the things until he rose higher than any mountain in Equestria, and then something occurred to him: “What did Solar Eclipse eat to grow so quickly?”
“Solar Eclipse? Oh, his vice was butter, lots of butter,” Fuller leant against the blackboard as she spoke, as though lost in some obscure memory, “If what he was eating wasn’t cooked in the stuff then it was normally melted on top of it. Hayburgers with butter, milkshakes with butter. I’m sure there were more than a few occasions when he just ate the raw butter, especially when he was getting close to taking the record for the first time,”
“Butter?!” Sundae stared at her in shock and awe, “But wouldn’t that kill anypony?” A look crossed his eyes, a battle between fear and inspiration, perhaps terror and lust. Fuller Figures went quiet for a while, watching her new student process this information.
“Sundae, it takes a lot more than just pigging out to reach ‘World’s Fattest’ status. Any pony can eat a lot of food and get merely fat. It takes an extreme effort to become extremely fat. It’s like climbing a mountain, or becoming one, I suppose. Summer Skyes gave up flying, gave up walking, would eat herself into a stupor at every meal. Honeycrisp would drink countless gallons of cider to stretch his stomach so he could fill it with more food. It’s that level of commitment, of drive, of sheer power of will that pushed them into success.
“Solar wanted it more than any pony I’ve ever known. Nothing would stop him from gaining weight. He did extreme things. Be they out of a sheer lust… or love… or both… of being fat, of being the fattest. How else can a pony expect to reach a ton, let alone fifteen tons, or whatever he’s at now? If you want to be like him, if you want to be BIGGER than him, you have to realise that your life is going to change forever after today. For better or worse, you’re going to get bigger. You’re going to lose the ability to walk, to do anything really beyond eating. You might lose friends over it, maybe even family; and there’s risk. There’s always risk. You’ll have to decide soon if you really want to do this, because—should everything go to plan—you won’t be able to back out after a couple of weeks.”
Sundae fell silent, the immensity of this undertaking hitting him like a train. Not only could he actually fail, he could lose everything in the process; if it got particularly bad he might not even make it out with his life. Was one dream really worth all this?
He took a moment to just stare at his hooves, watching his stomach rise and fall with each breath, just out of focus. The room had fallen ominously silent around him, Fuller respectfully waiting for him. It was several more minutes before he could finally muster the words for a response…
