Prologue
The first thing that could be heard, was silence, followed by the silent tapping of metal against bone. Aside from that, the ground was covered in bones, creatures that were once living were now nothing but undead bones roaming the abyss. There was also a fog surrounding the almost endless realm. But none of this could compare to the lone, seven foot four inches tall figure that sat in a throne made completely of bones. The black, steel armor of the figure shined under the foggy light, while the red cloak laid under his form, and a single pair of glowing red eyes sat behind the horned helmet, while every other feature of his face was hidden by cloth. Next to him lay his sword, a massive claymore with the skull of an imp in the center, and a dark aura seemed to emanate from it, as well as the aura of thousands of souls used in it’s creation.
The being was known simply as the Third Overlord, no one knowing his true name.
The Overlord didn’t speak, or move, but instead continued to tap his heavily armored finger against the arm of the throne, waiting for something it seemed like. He would occasionally glance at one of his guards, expecting to hear something he’d want to, but as it had been for decades, nothing had been spoken.
The Overlord hardly talked unless necessary, but when he did, the very sound of his voice would cast fear in the bravest of men, and terror in those who thought they stood a chance against him. But, once he became the new God of the Abyss, he had been planning of a way to return to his world, and he may have actually found one, but given how long it’d take, he only had the throne and his servants to entertain himself. He would occasionally slay one of the soldiers, who came back as they always did, or he would simply sit and think of possible ways to speed up the process of opening the gates back home.
But today? Today was the final day of waiting, and the gates to his old world finally open, letting him return to his minions, and reattempt to rule the world again. It was honestly all he wanted after waiting for so long, something to use for his anger and annoyance, something that he could actually kill and have as a new toy in the Abyss.
Once he is free, he’ll truly be happy, and will dominate the world for his own. No more waiting.
Just then, one of the tortured servants he ruled over rushed up to him, immediately bowing as low as he could get as he spoke. “All mighty Overlord, the Abyss Portals to the old world have opened. We finally have a chance to leave!”
The Overlord stopped tapping, and slowly turned his gaze to the servant, who began to tremble as he stayed low. With a simple flick of his wrist, the two guards began to take the servant back to his torture room, all the while the man screamed in horror and begged to be released, only for the Overlord to ignore it. He stood up to his full height, and dusted himself off. And with a nod, he grabbed his always useful sword, and began his trek to the fields of the realm, all the while he cracked his other hand without the need of the other. It has been a long time since he actually left the throne, and he planned to bring his new army with him into his old home. He will take what he wants, and use the Abyss as his new home, while having gates that lead to wherever he wished to go.
Once he had left the Bone Palace, he made his way across the fields as he spotted the portal that will take him to wherever Gnarl was, his most trusted minion. Gnarl was the only smart imp he trusted, and planned to put him to work on taking back his home. And for once, he was happy.
Once he arrived to the portal, he felt a small smile crack under his hidden features, before he motioned the soldiers to get ready for when they escape. And with that, he stepped through the portal.
The first thing the Overlord noticed was the scent of imps. This was a good sign for him as he clenched and released his fists, before he noticed something. The entire land he once owned was gone, replaced by a massive field of grass… with a grand land that could be seen from his location. This confused him as he looked back, and his eyes widened when he saw the gates to what he presumed to be Tartarus. Was that where his imps were now?
He cannot stand for this.
The Overlord aimed his hand at the gates of Tartarus, and the first thing that happened was the massive bolts of lightning escaping his fingertips, wrapping around the gates as it began to shudder and shake under his great power. But then it opened, and he smiled when he saw the land of Tartarus, covered in demons and imps alike. And the first one to see him, was one of the bigger demons.
The demon climbed out of Tartarus, and roared into the air, before it looked straight at the Overlord, and smiled darkly while he spoke. “You stand before HellStorm, Lord of Destruction. You have released me from my prison, as well as many others. But what will you do now that you stand before me?”
The Third Overlord simply aimed his gauntlet at him, and spoke one word. “Enslave.”
The Overlord’s magic shot out, wrapping around HellStorm as rows of lightning, ripped through his form, making the demon roar in pain as well as anger, attempting to move towards the demonic lord. He grabbed the ground, almost grabbing the Overlord, until an even greater amount of magic ripped through him, and pushed him back.
After a few minutes of the torture, the demon was released from the unknown spell, and simply laid still. A couple seconds later, he climbed onto his feet, and instead of his glowing green eyes, they now glowed red. The demon kneeled down to the Overlord, pressed his fist against his chest, and bowed his head. “I am at your disposal, Overlord.”
The Overlord smiled in response, and looked into Tartarus, motioning with his hands for the only other close-by demon, as well as the massive forces of imps to come out and obey his command. And once every single imp was out, he closed the door before any other demons could escape, and then turned to the new land that laid before him.
“Overlord.” The Overlord simply glanced at the second demon. “Allow me to introduce myself, I am GreenFlames, Lord of Domination. I can see you are one of both Destruction and Domination, which means you are lucky to have taken me and HellStorm with you. We will be your new advisers, and watch over what we can guess to be your grand and evil tower of evil.”
The Overlord nodded, looked at all the imps who smiled widely at him, and he pointed his finger at the land ahead. “Conquer.”
All of the imps cheered as they began to chant. “All hail the Overlord, Master of Domination and Destruction!”
The Overlord smiled darkly as he gazed upon what he planned to take as his new home.
The current battlefield on the borders of Equestria continued to grow new fires and more corpses as the dragons pushed the ponies back at full force. The dragons were so close to getting to the Everfree Castle, where the ponies currently stayed at, and planned to defeat them here and now. But brute force shouldn’t be the only thing used in this battle.
Across the battlefield, in one of the few forts controlled by the ponies, three of the pony generals where they could see the massive dragon as well as the map of the battlefield.
The first one then spoke. “Something has to give, and soon. Don’t you agree Princess Platinum?”
“Yes, we must find a way to bring the beast down before we can make a charge.” The second said. “Else this battle will continue until our forces are utterly decimated. Do you have any ideas Chancellor Puddinghead?”
“None that do not require a massive loss of ground and forces.” The third said with a shrug. “Although we could send in our Dark Knight. She would be more than happy to fix this problem for us, but her sister would never allow it.”
A trapdoor opened behind them, the sounds of two pairs of hooves resonating out as two winged and horned ponies walked out. “You would be correct, chancellor. Luna shall not be permitted to fight further until she has fully recovered from her injury.” The white Alicorn stood tall and regal, though her eyes betrayed the fatigue her body felt.
“I am no foal, sister.” She heatedly argued. “I can still fight. That sword barely nicked my flesh. It is well enough in my opinion to permit battle.” The white Alicorn glared back, coming face to face with her sister Luna.
“And the healer said your stitches are still too fresh to withstand the actions or battle!” The Alicorn tossed her mane out of her face. “Besides, I doubt even we could best that,” She pointed over the lip of the battlements to the hundred foot tall dragon. The behemoth laid waste to siege engines and squadrons of troops with swipes from its tail and the slightest wave of a clawed foot. The seven hundred foot long wingless dragon released a torrent of fire from its maw, a guttural laugh rumbling across the bodies and trenches from its throat. “I can only hope we can hold it off long enough to escape before they summon forth another!” Luna simply scoffed at her sister’s remark, only having glanced at the beast she had spent the last week plotting against.
“It’s a dragon Celestia, not an immortal being,” Luna retorted. “It has a heart, a mind and a Liver; you take one out of the equation and the other two fall as well.” Celestia sighed, turning away from her battle born sister and to the matter at hand. Luna scowled after her, her horn glowing with a dark blue aura. A stone that would have tested the powers of the most trained unicorn lifted from the battlefield as she maneuvered it from afar. Ponies scattered as she moved the massive slab over the area, bringing the mountain to the dilema. “If it will not travel then I will bring the mountain to it!” she yelled through the strain as Celestia stared at the power of her younger sister. “I did not become a Demigod to be bested by a mortal beast!” she screamed as she dropped the stone from high above the dragon.
“Is this the best you can do." The dragon yelled from across the battlefield.
Just then the sounds of thousands of hooves hitting the ground could faintly be heard, which caused the gaze of the dragons to look towards it, same for the ponies stepping out of their cover to see as well. And what they saw sent fear down their spines.
An entire army of small imps, skeletal soldiers, two demons, and a single, lone figure marched towards the battlefield, the very sight causing most dragons to step back and stare in shock and horror. It wasn’t the imps, the demons, or even the skeletal soldiers that began the terror, they simply increased it. The one who made the terror enter their forces, was the lone, black armored, horned helmet figure that led them. It’s glowing red eyes glancing amongst the forces, while it’s red cloak drifted in the breeze.
Luna then spoke as she stepped next to Celestia. “But, how did those creatures escape Tartarus?! I thought they were banished, unable to escape for three thousand years?!”
Celestia didn’t respond, solely keeping her eyes on the lone figure, who simply looked back at her. Who is that?
Just then the figure aimed his claw like finger at the two forces, and the word that escaped his mouth was what gave Celestia a reason to fear.
“Kill.”
The imps roared in cheers as they charged quickly into battle, half of the forces jumping and terrorizing the ponies, while the other half chased and ran from the dragons. This made the leaders stop dead in fear, while Platinum spoke. “How is this possible?! How are we supposed to win against that?!”
Luna barked at that. “Simple! We fight back! Send all our forces at them, now!”
Celestia shook her head at that. “No, that would leave Everfree defenceless, we cannot charge at these new foes blindly. Send them back to defend the gates!”
The others all nodded as the orders were passed on, and the ponies began their trek back to one of their remaining bases of operation.
The Overlord watched as the imps let their hearts out amongst their new enemy, happiness filling their little souls. At least it wasn’t cuteness.
Just then GreenFlames spoke. “Overlord, surely the imps wouldn’t be enough to take on that dragon. If you would allow it, I could make him obey your command.”
The Overlord simply nodded in response, which made GreenFlames smile widely, and charge towards the dragon. Once he was a few feet away, he leaped onto it’s form, and began to climb up it’s body, magic pulsing through his hands as he got ready for the spell. Once he made it to the neck of the dragon, who was trying to rip him off, he blasted it with his own magic, sending pain and agony throughout it’s body. It screamed in pain before it fell to the ground, almost going limp before the magic stopped.
Once the magic stopped, the dragon stood to it’s full height, and roared in anger, turning it’s attention to it’s allies, and causing one to speak. “Whoa! Hypen, it’s me, remember? You’re best friend? Hypen?”
The dragon simply roared at him, and began it’s flaming torrents onto the dragon forces, killing many while a few who survived began retreating.
The Overlord smiled, then turned his attentions towards the escaping forces of ponies. He looked at his new soldier, and pointed at the distant city. “Take.”
The dragon, the imps, the skeletal soldiers, and both demons nodded in agreement, and began their march to the target.
