Halflings are the hated children of a pony and changeling. Most die at birth because of how weak they are. The reason for that state of weakness is because of how messed up their DNA sequences are. Those who survive birth are hunted by both the changeling hives and pony governments.

As the halfling ages they tend to allow their ability to feed off emotions for strength to flourish. Those who don't die before they turn thirty. Those that do go feral after their thirty-first birthday, and suck ponies dry of emotions killing them.

There is ways for halflings to fix their genetic coding, but the costs of doing so are very high. Most methods include sacrificing one changeling queen and a male of the same type of pony as said halfling's pony parent. In the event of the halfling having the blood of all three pony tribes (Earth Pony, Unicorn, Pegasus) in them they would have to have a male alicorn.

There are however other ways to do this that do not require the death of any changelings or ponies. All that is required is a fresh blood sample of both parents (for best results) or one parent and pony or changeling (opposite race and gender of singular parent). If the one who is the not the parent is a pony they would have to be the same type of pony as the halfling's pony parent, unless they have the blood of all types of ponies in their body (From grand parents and so on). If that is the case they would need an alicorn.
