Wind rushed through my mane as I sped through the obstacle course. Watching the landscape zoom by in a flash, I pushed myself faster, putting all my energy into each beat of my wings. I had already passed all of the other Wonderbolts, proving myself the fastest, or maybe the most determined. I needed to prove myself here, where as they already had and kept their spot on the team of elite flyers locked up. I was the fresh blood, the newcomer.
Rounding a bend, I let my mind wander, seeing I had a solid lead on all the others. Soarin was the first haze of a thought my mind could grasp. He seemed to be the only thing I thought about anymore, other than my career. Though I could never admit it to him, he drove me wild. I had a huge crush on Soarin, but he never seemed to even notice me. Classic. I was living the life of a hopeless romantic, but it didn't bother me much, because I was determined to change my fate, to get my happy ending. He would fall for me. He would because he would want me. Soarin would want every part of me to be his. He most certainly will fall in love with me if destiny has anything to say about it.
I don't know, maybe I'll find somepony else, or maybe Soarin will finally see me, but either way, I'll be happy. That's one thing I will never give up on. Happiness. I'm already half way there, with a successful career. Now, all I need is love and my happy ending will be complete. Sometimes I think I plan out my life too much, but, so far, planning is what has gotten me good places in my life, so why try to fix what isn't broken? I've done rather well so far, and I hoped to keep that up.
A tinge of arousal spread through my loins, forcing me to grit my teeth and ignore the sensation. 'Not now, Rainbow. Keep it under control,' I thought to myself, pressing my tail down against my steadily moistening marehood. I tried to block out the feelings of pleasure and lust as I flew down the track, but they kept lingering at the back of my mind, disrupting any concentration I had left. Instinctively, my wings attempted to stiffen up at my sides. Biting my lip, I forced myself to keep moving, flapping my wings harder and harder.
All of a sudden, a dark mass speeding towards me pulled me from my foggy daydream. It was a thundercloud, purposely placed in the center of the track right around a corner to catch the participating flyers off guard. Under normal circumstances, I could have gone over or under the cloud with ease, but I had distracted myself. Struck with realization, I reeled back, trying to avoid the hazard. Essentially flapping my wings out of rhythm in a chaotic pattern, I tried to pull myself to a halt, but instead, I collided with the cloud, setting off a bright flash off lightning, accompanied by a booming crack. Numb to my surroundings, I blinked several times and tried to clear the looming darkness that threatened to consume me. After a few moments, I could hear my name being called through a hazy fog, but I couldn't bring myself to respond.
Sprawled out on a cloud, light poured into my eyes when I opened them just a crack. I wearily sat up, groaning. My body ached. I looked around when the light seemed to dim some. Soarin and Spitfire were standing on the cloud next to me, neither of them looking concerned. Suddenly, memories rushed back to me with a recollection of what happened. I was speeding towards a storm cloud and slammed into it head on, electricity buzzing through my body, singeing my mane and the tips of my wings.
"Rainbow Dash, What were you thinking?" Spitfire demanded, watching me with a disapproving eye as I got to my feet.
"I-I got distracted. I didn't see the cloud until it was too late," I replied solemnly, looking down at my hooves.
"This isn't like you. Are you alright?" Spitfire asked, her voice low, as if she didn't want anypony knowing she cared.
"I'm fine," I concluded, though my whole body ached.
"Rest up the remainder of the day, but I expect to see you tomorrow, better than ever, understood?" Spitfire questioned roughly.
"Yes Ma'am," I agreed, bowing my head as she flew off to join the other Wonderbolts
"See you tomorrow, Rainbow Dash," Soarin chimed in, following behind Spitfire.
Whimpering slightly, I gently stretched out sore wings, flapping them a few times to loft myself into the air. Gliding through the crisp air, I took in a deep breath, ignoring the pain that flickered through my limbs. I kept my expression indifferent, not wanting to let the Wonderbolts see weakness. I was new here, they had to think I was strong. A little cloud and some electricity couldn't bring this mare down. Not yet anyways.
