Bold Wallflower walked through the crowds. Her brown eyes looking left and right at Canterlot’s architecture. Vivid signs and a royal feel to the building is what she expected of the city. She noticed a mare walking towards her. The mare wore a long dress, sparkling the sun’s rays hit it. The mare looked at her. She scoffed at her.
Bold did not wear any dress, only having a buckle that kept her sword on her side. Her black hair was tied in ponytail, using a brown headband. She was taller and more buff than her. Adding her chestnut body and short tail, the mare could have assumed she was a country stallion. The mare then held her head higher than before, walking past her like she was an invisible person.
Bold rolled her eyes and snorted. No wonder why her uncle did not like this city. Bold preceded on her way towards Canterlot’s castle. When she arrived there, she saw numerous of ponies standing in a line in front of a few tables. Behind these tables, royal guards were asked questions, then writing down names on the registration. She joined the line directed towards the Special Operations. Few ponies lined up in front of the table, and it did not take long for Bold to be inches away from the guard. The colt standing in front left, glad to that was over with. The royal guard then called.
“Next!”, he said while looking down at his paper.
The royal guard looked up.
“You must be the last pony to be in line.”
“Yes, sir”, Bold said.
“Well, onto the questions. What’s your name?”
“Bold Wallflower sir.”
“Have you attended in Canterlot Academy?”
“No, sir.”
The royal guard sighed.
“Then you are not qualified to have an interview.”
“But sir, I have good qualifications that would make me a perfect candidate for the special operations.”
The guard smirked.
“Oh yeah, name a few.”
“I have been sword fighting for eight years, and having vast knowledge on the locations and creatures we may encounter.”
The guard chuckled.
“So you’re one of those guys.”
Bold raised an eyebrow.
“I do not get what you are saying.”
The guard chuckled more.
“I mean you’re fibber.”
Bold narrowed her eyes.
“I assure you sir that I do not lie.”
The guard almost fell out of his chair. At this point, all of the others, both guard and ponies, were watching.
“Listen, kid, who set you up?”
Her temper rising, Bold tried to control her voice.
“No one set me up.”
The guard then stood up.
“Look, kid, I just have enough of your antics. You either get out or sign up to be in the Academy.”
Bold frowned.
“I know my own skills sir. I know that I surpass the majority of the students in the Academy, and it would be a waste of time to attend there!”
The guard went over the table, getting closer to Bold’s face.
“You’re mighty proud of yourself! Unless you can beat Shining Armor himself, you don’t have much of an option, do you?”
Both guard and Bold growled, getting closer to each other.
“That’s enough!”
Both and audience turned their attention toward a white unicorn. The stallion had a long mane and tail with two shades of blue. His eyes and hooves were the color of the darker shade. The stallion walked, his armor glinting. The armor had purple and yellow, with part of his cutie mark, a shield with a star sign, on his chest. He walked towards the two arguing parties, the crowd just staring at him. When he became closer, the guard bowed to him.
“Your Highness”, the guard said.
“Please don’t call me that”, the colt said, putting his hoof behind his head.“Anyway, what seems to be the problem?”
The guard pointed to Bold.
“Well this stallion…”
“You mean mare.”
The guard mouth almost gaped.
“Huh?”
“That guy you’re pointing at is a girl.”
The guard looked up and down. Apart from her hair and having less muscle, if a stallion was beside Bold, no one could have tell the difference. He then coughed a couple of times.
“Well this mare thinks she could just sign up for an interview to get in the special ops without proper training.”
“Sir”, Bold said. “I have already told you I do have the qualifications.”
“And I already told you that I think you’re lying!”
Before they could get closer to each other, the colt jumped in between them.
“Alright!”, he said.
The colt then looked at Bold.
“Look what is your name?”
“Bold Wallflower”, she said.
“Okay then. What skills do you have?”
“I have been trained to sword fight for eight years, and know the various of locations and creatures the special operations might be encountering.”
“That’s good, but that does not meet with our requirements to be special ops or any army in that matter.”
Bold then walked towards the colt.
“Well, if I defeat you, then that will prove my worthiness.”
“Wait, what?”
“I, Bold Wallflower, challenge you, Prince Shining Armor, to a duel! If I win, I get to be in special operations, but if I lose, I shall enroll in Canterlot Academy.”
The crowd whispered while the stallion stood there, gulping.
“Wow, let’s not get hasty here”, Shining Armor stammered. “I mean, it would not have been a fair duel to begin with. You’re an earth pony and a…”
Bold drew out her sword, and had it close to Shining Armor’s chest. The guards prepared to grab her, but Shining held out his hoof. They halted, waiting for their leader’s instructions. Shining sighed.
“Fine, I will face you in a week. Until then, you can rest here in Canterlot.”
Bold withdrew her sword.
“I agree on those terms. Should we hoofshake on it?”
She held out her hoof, and Shining Armor grabbed it. Both shook, the crowd cheering. After the hoofshake, Bold left, leaving Shining Armor staring at her. Once he can not see her anymore, the colt sighed.
“Oh Celestia, what have I done?”, he whispered.
