It's Ratford!
The Meadow
Load Full Story"You know, You're the first real friend I've had since the Ursa incident", The blue unicorn rolled over, thinking, "or ever, really..."
"That's not your fault, no one sticks around long enough to get to know you!"
A boy in blue jeans and a golden yellow T shirt lay beside the blue unicorn, chewing on a piece of grass lazily. He had dark brown hair and the look of someone who has learned a lot in far too short of a time. He was pretty skinny, being 5'9" and weighing 135 pounds. His greenish blue eyes examined the sky above him, watching the clouds float thousands of feet above them carelessly. The grass tickled his back and arms, but he didn't mind. He had been friends with the unicorn ever since he was sent to learn about the strange new world he was trapped in. She had been rather mean at first, insulting him and saying she was the most powerful being alive, until he pointed out he was two feet taller than she was and probably had far better natural balance than her. That of course, prompted her to try to stand on her hind legs for an extended period of time, and she failed miserably.
"Well, no one wants to get to know Trixie, she guesses because of the things she has done in the past..." The unicorn sighed.
She had a pale blue mane with a slightly stronger coat. She was rather rude, as was her nature. Her name was Trixie, and she was laying in the grass next to the boy. She had previously entered a small town called Ponyville, From the boy's memory, As a show mare, doing a rather snobbish magic show. She would challenge any other pony to a contest of their choice, and beat them. She would then horribly humiliate them for entertainment purposes, though this didn't work out in her case, as she was humiliated by her own boasts. She had bragged about defeating an Ursa Major, one of the most powerful beasts in the book. Of course two little brats screwed it up for her, bringing in an Ursa Minor. She failed to stop the Ursa and someone else had to save the day. It was The element of magic too, which made it all the more ironic to the boy.Her show lost popularity and she became quite a poor, sad, angry, narcissistic pony.
She also became homeless, and this was how the boy had found her. He decided to help the poor unicorn out, since he was being well kept by the princesses with home and food. She had gotten help from him, and an education to further better her magical skills. The school she happened to go to housed a particularly forgiving human.
"Yeah, at least you aren't as narcissistic as you were when I met you!" The boy said sarcastically.
"just... Just shut up Ratford." Trixie snorted.
"strange that you said I was your first friend 'ever'. you must have had a friend of some form at some point?" Ratford asked.
"sadly that wasn't the case..." Trixie sighed, "Trixie owes you a lot, you know"
"Oh really?" Ratford chuckled.
"Well yea! you helped Trixie -"
She was interrupted by a loud snap from Ratford's fingers right in her ear.
"you don't owe me anything, and besides, having people owe me makes me feel like a jerk"
"Sorry..."
"why do you only apologize to me?" Ratford facepalmed and the blue unicorn laughed.
"sometimes I wish I could visit home, Equestria is too much of a culture shock for me sometimes"
"and leave your friend behind?" Trixie sounded slightly hurt.
"As I said, Visit"
The two laughed together, as they looked at the clouds. Ratford thought a moment, then realized something.
"Why aren't the clouds moving?" He wondered aloud.
"How could you not know? It's almost as obvious as Trixie's greatness!" The unicorn tried to do a pose, but being on her belly didn't allow it, making her just look dumb.
"well where i'm from they move!" Ratford stated.
"What.. the Everfree Forest?"
"No, a place called America" He answered.
"Well, here there is a team of pegasi who control the weather for the rest of us." She began to explain
" wait... you are totally pulling my chain aren't you?"
"Trixie is totally serious. Anyways..." Trixie went into a long explanation of how weather duty worked, which eventually brought her to the history of Commander Hurricane the Pegasus, and then onward to Pegasus history in general.
"So.. your telling me that this commander guy went to find land not plagued by unnatural cold.. and the earth ponies as well as unicorns did the same?"
"Yes, Trixie has stated this already."
"and then they all made it to the same land? and hurricane flipped out as well as the other ponies..."
"Yes"
"and the cold came to them?"
"You ask too many questions."
"I need to confirm this." Ratford could not wrap his head around the fact that the grounded ponies made it to the new land the same time the Pegasus did. There was no Fathomable way they could match the speed of flight at any time.
"How did the other two races make it there too?"
"He couldn't Fly you dolt."
"Why couldn't he?"
Trixie facehoofed in frustration. "you are like a foal with no understanding of the world, so many questions!"
"I'm sorry jeeze! adults can need guidance too!" Ratford grunted.
"BUT YOUR NOT AN ADULT!"Trixie yelled at him. This was one of her problems. She had no patience due to her being spoiled by her old fans when she was in the show business.
"THAT'S THE POINT!" Ratford mockingly yelled back at her, "I'M NOT AN ADULT!"
"ugh" Trixie slid her hoof off her face.
"anyways, So they argued a lot about the land, and the cold came to them?" Ratford laughed.
"Yes it did..."
This went on for about a dozen minutes, with Ratford asking the dumbest questions just to anger the mare, who he then laughed at. She was rather fed up with this behavior and continued her lesson on Pegasi.
"Now, Trixie isn't quite sure, But she thinks that the Pegasi came from over seas." Trixie finished.
"Like the British" Ratford compared
"who?"
"you wouldn't know them. they are from my world." Ratford answered.
Trixie didn't want to have to listen to her annoying friend speak about the 'British' so she changed the subject.
"Also, we ponies make winter happen by ourselves."
"Wait... like release a trained Wendigo? or what?" Ratford wondered.
"The Pegasi make the clouds snow, and the earth ponies get the trees to shed leaves. there are some ponies to put the animals in the hibernation mindset too."
"Sounds like a lot of work!" He laughed.
"We also have to clean up winter with OUR OWN HOOVES"
"OH GOD!" Ratford yelped, " I don't want to die of overwork!" He feinted theatrically into Trixies hooves as a joke, and she shoved him face first into the dirt. As he rolled over, he laughed, wiping grass blood and dirt from his cheek. "You have no sense of humor."
"You don't tell good jokes" She replied nonchalantly.
"Ughuweh?" Ratford made a pitiful sound as he made a hilariously over exaggerated sad face.
"Please, don't do that ever again." Trixie said.
"fine..." Ratford chuckled.
The two sat under the clouds, poking fun at each other and having a good time in general, until Ratford realized how late it was.
"We should get going home, i don't want to meet the midget horse thugs that come out at night"
Trixie glared at Ratford.
"What? i didn't call you a midget horse thug!" Ratford shrugged, "Or fat."
This earned a slap on the back of the head for Ratford, and he rubbed the new bump on his skull.
"Another battle trophy!" He joked.
The two got up, and began walking through the final minutes of day, and the tall grass of the meadow towards the lights of Manehattan.
