Demeter had been engrossed in his music composition for most of the morning. It was barely ten when a noise caught his attention. It was the sound of the music hall doors being slammed open unceremoniously. He gritted his teeth at the uncomfortable sound as he looked up to see who was bothering him at this hour. It just so happened to be one of his friends, Primrose. The pegasus seemed to have some sort of reason for visiting as she was using her wings to propel herself through the audience seats.
"Prim, you really need to be quiet when you enter. There may be a practice, performance or… composition in session." The unicorn said as he narrowed his teal colored eyes at her. Primrose simply grinned. "I know, I know. I just really wanted to visit you as soon as possible." Demeter set down his quill and tilted his head to the side. "What reason would that be?" The pegasus kept her smile as she pulled a piece of paper from her saddle bag. With muffled words she managed to speak, "The Grand Galloping Gala!"
Demeter sighed used his magic to lift his quill and went back to his writing. "Not interested."
"Seriously 'Meter, I think you could perform anywhere you wanted." The purple colored pegasus remarked to the gray unicorn. The unicorn in question didn't seem pleased at all. He shook his black and blue mane and looked at the pegasus. "Prim, I could not perform at the Grand Galloping Gala even if Celestia paid me." Prim sighed as her teal and burgundy mane covered her orange eyes. "You don't realize how great of a talent with music that you have." She said peeking an orange eye from behind her mane. Demeter still didn't seem thrilled as his horn lit with its teal aura as he looked through his stack of composition paper. "I don't intend on accepting the invitation."
"Why don't you give it a chance?" Prim said ruffling her feathers. "If it makes you happy… I'll think about it." The stubborn unicorn replied as he searched through his papers. This perked Prim up as she flapped her wings. "Great! I'll go tell Slight that you'll do it!" She flew out of the window and out of sight. It took a moment for what she said to sink in. "Wait!" He stood on his hind legs as to see how far she had gone but knew it was too late. "I just… don't want to disappoint him…" Demeter said with a sigh as he sat down on the stage floor. Slight Light was a stallion in town whom he had developed feelings for. It wasn't something he was proud of since the fellow unicorn was a friend. Relationships that stem from friendships often never last, for which was a fear of his.

Later that afternoon Demeter took the chance to leave the theater as to see if Prim had actually gone to see Slight Light. Among the ponies of Ponyville there were few that stood out were the elements of harmony ponies; Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity, Apple Jack, and Pinkie Pie. These six mares were constantly saving Equestria from some sort of disaster monthly it seemed. However nothing had gone wrong just yet.
At a slow trot around town, the gray unicorn had no luck finding the purple pegasus. One would think you would spot that teal and burgundy mane anywhere. It seemed like that was impossible today. Demeter sighed as he past the library. On occasion he would drop by to look at the classic sheet music that was on hoof. Other times it would be an excuse to talk to Twilight. With a mare like her around, you couldn't help but like her. If it wasn't the sheet music, books or Twilight it was a bigger excuse to see Slight Light. The white unicorn would use Twilight's balcony for observation of the sky if he was not at Star Gaze Hill just outside of town.
"What's your problem 'Meter?" A new voice rang. He picked his head up real quick to see his younger sister, Nightdream. A mostly black pegasus with swirling white markings and white mane and tail. Compared to most ponies that he had ever seen, Night was one of the darkest. It was not often that a black or really dark pony was seen in the sea of pastel fur colors. It was equally strange to be the only pegasus amongst unicorns. At least that's how he thought of her. Regardless of her being adopted, he still appreciated her time. She ruffled her white and black feathers and looked down at him. "Are you going to spit out the message like Spike or is Celestia still writing?"
At this he smiled and stood up again. "Prim tried to get me to perform at the Grand Galloping Gala. She says I could do it but I don't think so." Demeter finally replied. Night folded her wings and looked at her brother. "And you doubt your abilities? Just because you write and conduct doesn't mean you lack talent." His ice blue eyes looked into her purple ones. All the truth was evident.
"I guess I'm nervous is all. Celestia seems intimidating to me." Night giggled so hard at this it came out as a short. "She's as intimidating as a fly! She's very nice for an alicorn." 'Meter shrugged. "Anyway, Prim brought Slight Light into this too." Night rolled her eyes. It wasn't a secret that Demeter had a colt crush on Slight. The unicorn was every bit as attractive as Rarity is. "Don't worry, you're not the one playing the instruments, other ponies are." Night said nuzzling her snout against his.
"Cheer up buttercup." She said smiling. He couldn't help but smile at her. "Alright, you're right." He said with a slight laugh in his voice. "Now go find Prim before she gets you mixed in something you don't want." He nodded and trotted off to look for Prim. Nightdream watched him go and shook her head.
