Twilight's first christmas
Pinkie Pie has a large grin across her face and was staring directly at Twilight. “Please Twilight, can we come with you?” Applejack, Rarity and Rainbow Dash all nodded along with Pinkie's proposal. Fluttershy merely whimpered. “C'mon Twi. Please. The last two times you went, we were so worried and we haven't got to meet the other us yet. Please!” The pink pony leaped for ward and latched onto Twilight's forehoof, hugging it like a vice.
Twilight tried to free her hoof from the pony, but Pinkie held on tightly. “I'm sorry, Pinkie, but you can't go.” A collective sigh came from the other ponies. “Next time I promise the rest of you can come, Pinkie promise.” Twilight crossed her hoof over her heart and placed it over her eye. Satisfied, the party pony released Twilight from her grip.
Twilight looked at each of her friends smiling, then turned towards the upgraded mirror portal in front of her. Time to go. Without another look behind her she stepped through the portal, disappearing from Equestria entirely. Pinkie galloped towards the portal, preparing to leap in, until an orange hoof grabbed her hind legs, causing her to trip. “What the hay Applejack!”
“What do you think you doing Pinkie?” Applejack frowned.
“But she'll be lonely without us.” Pinkie said sadly, tears forming in her eyes. She got up off the ground. “I don't want her to leave.”
Rarity trotted up to the two. “Don't you fret darling. She already has us there with her, in a manner of speaking. She'll be back before you can bake a cake.” Pinkie beamed.
“Oh, a cake! Great idea Rares. I'm going to bake a cake for when she comes back.” She shot off leaving a pony shaped dust cloud where she stood. The remaining ponies left the room, the mirror portal humming quietly behind them.
“So, what time did she say she was going to be here anyway?” Rainbow Dash sighed, bouncing a soccer on her foot. So far she was up to seventy-five. “We've been waiting here for ages. I thought she of all people would be punctual.” They all nodded their heads in agreement. The group of six were waiting at the base of the Canterlot high school statue, waiting for Twilight to appear, except for Pinkie who was playing on top of it.
Sunset spoke. “Don't worry, she's coming. She would have wrote to us if she wasn't.” She brought out a large leather book from her bag and shuffle through the book quickly. “She hasn't written anything new.” Pinkie Pie suddenly jumped down from the statue, a sad expression marring her face. “What's wrong?” Sunset asked, concerned. Pinkie rarely had that look on her face.
“I don't know. I just got the sudden feeling that I'm missing out on fun..." and now I'm happy again!” She grinned. “Oh, the portals doing a thing!” She pointed at the smooth marble as it began to glow. Before twilight jumped through it, landing of her hands and knee. She heard a chorus of cheers as her friends enveloped her in a hug.
“Hey girls. I'm back.” She said nervously.
Sunset patted her on the back as the hug ended. “You're going to love this visit. This time, no evil teens. Just fun, food and present. You ready?”
“Ready as I'll ever be. So Pinkie house again?” She queried.
“Where else would we have a party?” Pinkie squealed. “This is going to be so, much. Fun!”
“So he just breaks in and gives you presents as compensation?” Applejack had had just finished explaining Santa to Twilight, but apparently she needed to go into more detail. Applejack chuckled. “He doesn't break in... well he kinda does, but he isn't bad or anything. He's a good guy. He gives everyone in the world a present and leaves.” Sunset scoffed.
“If you have the money that it.” She turned her attention to a particular interesting part of the floor.
Twilight tilted her head. “What do you mean? Applejack didn't say you have to pay him.”
Sunset laugh. “He isn't real. It's your parents that put the presents under the tree, so unless they have the money, you get nothing.”
The farmer sighed. “Don't be like that Sunny. We all got a gift for each other,” She pointed under the tree, which had a large amount of gifts under it. “and your goin' to love what ah got ya.”
Twilight was bewildered. “Wait he isn't real... then why did you spend the last half hour explaining him to me?”
“He's a seasonal icon. Kinda like the Easter bunny or the tooth fairy.” Pinkie pie hopped into the room. “It makes the whole thing more fun.” She dumped a bucket of cookies onto a table next to the tree, which caused Applejack to cringe.
“Don't you think that's a bit much Pinkie?” She rubbed her forehead.
“Not really. He loves my cookies after all. He told me last year that he wanted chocolate chip cookies this time and I wanted to make him happy.”
Twilight sighed. “You just said he wasn't real and now Pinkie says he is. Which is it?!”
“Which ever one you want it to be.” Pinkie chirped. “It's all about belief and fun. Now where did I put those carrots?” She lefts the room rubbing a non-existent goatee.
“At least here I don't have to deal with Pinkie sense.” Twilight groaned. “So after the gift giving is done, what happens?”
“Then we all eat and do whatever we want with our new stuff!” Rainbow shouted with glee. “I'm needing a new soccer ball as it is. This one is good, but it's starting to wear out.” She turned to Applejack, who gave her a wink.
“Ah'm glad you liked it, but I decided on somethin' else this year.” She gave Rainbow a coy smile.
“A football?” Applejack shook her head. “Cricket bat?” Another shake of her head. “...Socks?”
“You're not gonna guess it. Just give up.” Applejack giggled to herself. The others just stared at her. It was Rarity who spoke next.
“You could at least give us a hint darling. I don't want to hear Rainbow guessing random things for the next three hours.”
“Sorry, but no hints. She's just goin' to have to wait like the rest of us.” She reached over to the table of cookies.
“Hey!” Pinkie appeared behind Applejack. “No touching the cookies. Those are for Santa.” Pinkie aimed a scowl at the farmer, that could melt chocolate. “Oh, speaking of chocolate!” She bolted out of the room.
“Ah didn't say anything about chocolate!” She called out to her friend, then groaned. “I'm never goin' to understand that girl.” She shook her head as she spoke.
Sunset looked outside and yawned. “Well, its getting late girls. I'm gonna head off to bed, any of you want to join me.” Fluttershy raised her hand.
“I'm a bit tired to.” She stood up and followed sunset. “You coming Dashie?”
“I'm good. Still got some energy left. So Twilight. What's the other me like? Is she as awesome?”
“Your pretty much exactly the same, except instead of sports, she's always flying.” She thought to herself. But your both pretty stubborn. “That's pretty much the only difference besides your appearance.”
“Oh... but who's the awesomest?” She grinned smugly.
“I don't think that's a real word and I can't really I can answer that question with out a bit of research and a polygraph.”
“A polywhat?”
Twilight sighed. This is Rainbow Dash you talking to. “A lie detector.”
“Why would you need a lie detector to tell who's more awesome?” She scratched the back of her head.
“We'll get to that when we start the tests. My friends are coming next time so it should be eas-”
“We're coming here! I mean... the other us.” She jumped to her feet. “This is going to be awesome. Imagine everyone's face seeing two of us.” She laughed heartily. "There are so many pranks me and Pinkie could pull.”
“Firstly, It's Pinkie and I, not me and Pinkie. Secondly, it's just a social visit so they can get to know you... or would that be getting to know themselves?” Twilight rubbed her eyes. “I'm going to have to sleep on this.”
Rarity left her conversation with Applejack and walked over to Twilight. “Me and A.J. Are heading off to bed.”
“Ya'll should be getting' some rest, as well.” Applejack added. Before leaving with Rarity.
“I'll be right up!” She called out to her friends and was responded with a muffled acknowledgement. “Well, I guess it's time to hit the hay. Are you sure you don't want to join us? You're looking kind of worn out.”
“Are you kidding. Do you know who your talking to?” She asked rhetorically. “I can go without sleep for days. You guys can get your beauty sleep. I gonna watch some movies.” Twilight shrugged her shoulders as she left.
“If you say so.” She does sleep a lot during the day, after all.
The athlete went over to the television and went between each channel until she got to something she liked. Finally deciding on watching 'How the Grinch stole Christmas.'
In Pinkie's room, six girls were fast asleep. Pinkie slept in her bed, or more accurately, half of her slept in her bed. The other half managed to work it's way under her bed. The bed was also occupied by Twilight, who had neglected to bring a sleeping bag for the occasion. The rest of her friends were sleeping on the floor in their own sleeping bags. Fluttershy was sleeping at the end of the bed, nearby Sunset, who was closer to Pinkie Pie's television. Applejack was sound asleep next to the door, unintentionally hugging Rarity, who was hugging her in return.
It was coming close to midnight and they had all been asleep for the past two hour, while Rainbow Dash had stayed downstairs and enjoyed all fifty inches of Pinkie's high-definition tv.
Twilight was dreaming of the day she had met the princess and been taken on as her personal student. She was up to the part where she had gotten her cutie mark, when she was sudden ripped from her dream. Twilight's eye's shot open and she took hold of her surrounding. Oh, that's right. I'm in the other world. She looked around at her sleeping friends, nothing seemed strange at all until she heard an off sound from downstairs. Is that girl still up watching the magic box? Twilight inched out of the party girl's bed, careful so as not to wake her.
The pink girl flinched as Twilight got up from the bed, causing her to slide off the bed even more. Seeing that she was still asleep, Twilight continued her way across the room, carefully avoiding standing on any outstretched limbs. She reached out to the door handle and turned it, pulling to door towards her to open in, but it wouldn't budge. What the hay? She looked at the base of the door, and saw Applejack's leg pressed firmly against the door, blocking access to the outside. Carefully, she moved the farm girl's leg out of the way.
Applejack moved her body position for a more comfortable position and ending up spooning Rarity. That might be a bit awkward when they wake up. Twilight opened the door, which was now free of obstruction. The house was quiet and dark, the only light emanating from the lounge room where the tv and Christmas tree were. Twilight walked into the room. Rainbow was fast asleep on the floor, her leg twitching slightly. The tv had been left on and was currently showing an episode from some cartoon with yellow people. Twilight took the remote from next to Rainbow and switched the box off. It was quiet again. She went to leave the room but then heard the strange noise that had woken her up. She turned around but Rainbow was still fast asleep on the floor.
The room was still except for the moving figure in the fireplace. There's someone in the fire place! Twilight ran up to the fire place and grabbed the iron poker leaning against the mantle piece. “Who are you? What are you doing in Pinkie's house?” Her voice was shaky. I've fought the most powerful foes in Equestrian history. Why am I scared of some stranger? “I'm warning you.”
The figure crawled out of the fireplace and stood up to his full height. He was massive, reaching two meters in height. His body was adorning a large suit, with with fur trimming, that was stretched across his wide body. He wore a slightly comical pointed hat, which had a ball of fur at the end. The man looked around the room, oblivious to Twilight's words. Noticing the tree in the corner of the room, he slowly paced towards it. “Hey! Stay away from those presents you thief!” Twilight brought the poker up above her head and brought it down in an arch towards the fat man's back. She was expecting it to connect, but it had stopped mid-swing. What? The big man chuckled to himself and turned to face Twilight. He had a large white beard. His bright blue eyes looking straight into hers. He was smiling.
“Well this is a big surprise, Ms Sparkle. I could have sworn I already stopped by your house and you were fast asleep.” He brought a piece of parchment out of nowhere, and looked through the list written on it. “Yep. Looks like it. So how is it tha-” He stopped suddenly and leaned in towards her, staring strait into her eyes, before bellowing out a hearty laugh. “Oh I see whats happened here. Hehe. It has been a while since I have had to deliver presents to the same person twice. Haven't had an Equestrian come her for a while. Except for Sunset Shimmer, that is. How is Celestia anyway?”
Twilight went rigid, at least as rigid as you can go when already held still by magic. “You... know the princess?”
Another round of laughter. “I know everyone my dear. I must say it has been a bit of a hassle with paperwork having to deliver presents to two Sunset Shimmers, but two Twilights may be too confusing for an old man like myself. Are you just staying for one Christmas or will this be a repetitious thing?”
Twilight didn't know what to say so she just answered. “Uh, well. Just a one time thing maybe... You seem to know who I am, so who are you?”
The man's eyes widened in surprise. It was rare that people didn't recognise him, on the odd occasion that he was caught. He let out a small chuckle which soon evolved into roar of laughter. “Oh my, this is jolly good.” He almost doubled over in laughter. “See that ornament on the tree over there.” He pointed to a red and white figure hanging from one of the branches. “Does that look in anyway familiar to you.” Twilight stared at it for several minutes.
“Yeah. That's Santa. Applejack told me abou-” She looked back to the intruder. “Yo-your Santa! But how? Sunset told me he wasn't real.”
“She has been a difficult one. She's always changing where she lives, Poor girl. At least now she has friends to be with during the Christmas season. Some people just don't believe in me any more. Oh! I see Pinkie got my message.” He walked over to the table of cookies. “I must say, of all the houses I visit, hers always has the best cookies.” He began eating cookie after cookie. Soon they were all gone, crumbs scattered across the man's beard. “But I can assure you Ms Sparkle that I am very much real.” He clicked his fingers and the poker slammed to the floor.Twilight soon followed it, thrown of balance by the sudden movement.
Santa pulled out a small bulging velvet sack, again out of nowhere, and took out a few presents. “Lets see what we have here. One for Pinkie.” He grabbed a small pink box with a blue ribbon, and placed it under the tree. “One for Rarity.” He pulled another box out, this one was white with a purple ribbon. “Two for Fluttershy. She's on the top of the nice list, you know?” He pulled out two boxes. One yellow one with a pink ribbon and one pink box with a yellow ribbon.
He clicked his fingers and and three more boxes appeared under the tree. One was orange with a green ribbon. One had a rainbow print on it and was larger than all the others. The final box was yellow in colour and had Sunset's cutie mark printed onto the wrapping. “And to finish off we have Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Sunset.” He smiled to himself at a job well done.
Twilight just sat where she fell and watched. “So... do I get one.” Santa turned to her and smiled.
“Still a filly at heart I see. Very well.” He clicked his finger and a purple box appeared in his hand. “Remember, you can't open it till Christmas morning.” He chuckled as he placed the last gift under the tree, his stomach shuddering with each laugh. He walked towards the chimney, giving Twilight a side glance as he walked pass her, and stopped at the mantelpiece. “So, what were you going to do after you knocked me out anyway?”
“What?” She had completely forgotten about the poker in her hand.
“You know. After you hit me with that.” He pointed at the iron rod.
“I-I don't know. Get the girls, then call guards.” Santa only chuckled in reply, before jumping into the fireplace. Kids these days. Twilight watched as he was sucked up the chimney. A loud snore broke Twilight's concentration. She turned quickly behind her and saw Rainbow shifting uncomfortably on the floor. Twilight walked over to the limp body of her friend, and lifted her up. She's surprisingly light for her size.
It didn't take her long to get back to Pinkie's room, considering she was carrying an extra person with her. Twilight placed her friend on the now vacant bed. Pinkie had finally managed to move her entire body under the bed. Twilight lied down on the bed next to her friend and felt sleep begin to take over her. The snores of her friends coming from all directions, even beneath her.
"Twilight! Wake up!" Pinkie was shaking Twilight by the shoulders. "Santa came! He left gifts for us!" She shouted before bolting out of the room. Twilight rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. You don't need to tell me. I'm the one who tried to knock him out. She got out of the bed and followed her friend, swaying unsteadily on her feet. The rest of her friends were all huddled around the tree waiting to open their presents.
Rainbow Dash punched the air. "Finally! Took you long enough. Lets open some presents." She went to reach for her present but Pinkie grabbed her hand to stop her.
"Nuh-uh. This is Twi's first Christmas. She gets to open hers first." Pinkie grinned at Twilight and grabbed the purple box Santa had left her. "Here you go."
Twilight grabbed the box and thanked her friend. The rest of the group stared at her as she opened the box. Slowly she tore of the wrapping, and opened the box beneath. Sitting at the bottom of the box was book.
"That's it!" Rainbow exclaimed. "Great. First gift of Christmas is a book!" She folded her arms, slightly annoyed. Twilight pulled the book out of the box. It didn't have any title printed on it. Only a picture of Twilight's cutie mark. She opened it and the pages were blank. "Hey there something else." Rainbow turned the box upside-down. A small folded piece of paper fell out. Curious, Twilight took paper and unfolded it. It was a letter.
Dear Twilight Sparkle
I hope you like the new diary I got for you. Since that old friendship diary of your is almost full, I thought this would be a suitable gift. Don't forget to write about me.
Your friend
Santa, The Easter bunny, Cupid and Jack-Pumpkin.
P.S.
Say hello to the other Discord for me.
Twilight face palmed. Of course, how did I not see that coming. Applejack spoke. "Are ya ok, sugarcube?"
"Yeah, just a bit of a head ache. You guys go ahead and open your gifts."
"Yeah! Awesome." Rainbow grabbed the large present Santa had left her, tearing of the wrapper and opened the box. "Sweet! This is the ball the pro's use. Thanks A.J." She hugged Applejack tightly.
"Uh... No problem." She blushed, wondering who had actually given the present, but no one owned up. Twilight watched happily as her friends opened gift after gift. Even Sunset soon had a handful of presents and was smiling happily. Soon all the present were opened and they were all chatting to each other about their gifts.
Rainbow went to grab a candy cane off the tree but stopped half-way. "Hey, there's one left." She reach under the tree and brought out a small box from beneath a pile of wrapping. "Hey. It's from Applejack." Applejack blushed profusely. "Lets tear this baby open!" She ripped off the wrapping in seconds and was lefts with a modest little cyan blue box. Rainbow took the top off of the box and froze. "What. The. Hell."
Author's Note
I may write small epilogue after this to show what Rainbow Dash got from Applejack, but for now I'll let you guess.
I hope you guys enjoyed this Christmas story. I worked on it for three days, and put a fair amount of work into it.
I originally intended to release on Christmas day, but I don't know when I'm going to have access to a computer during my holiday.
Merry early Christmas.
As per usual please point out any spelling errors so I can correct them.
