Midnight Glimmer Reads about the Deaths of her Moo Moo's Friends
Midnight Glimmer used to love listening to her great- great- great grandma, Twilight Sparkle (or Moo Moo for short) tell stories about her old friends. She used to sit at Moo Moo’s hooves and color all day while she listened. The stories were all from a long time ago when her Moo Moo lived in Ponyville, and from before she became an alicorn. Midnight Glimmer couldn't imagine how any pony could live back in those days. The technological advances were so minimum. Her Moo Moo always said that all pony aren't a tech savvy as her, and it wasn't really a concern of any pony back then. Ponies were just happy living the simple life.
Now, though, Midnight Glimmer was older and something bother her about the stories. Her Moo Moo never told her how any of her friends died. When she was younger MG always just figured they had die of old age since they weren't alicorns like her Moo Moo, but what if they didn't? MG knew that her Moo Moo would never tell her if she asked. She knew would have to find the answers out herself if she wanted to know.
They royal library was impressive. It would impress ponies that didn't even like libraries. It had the highest ceilings with pure gold trimmings. The floor was a very rare marble that changed colors depending on the lighting. The temperature was closely monitored so that it would stay the perfect temperature for preserving the books. The collection itself had over 3 million volumes.
Midnight glimmer loved it. She would never admit that to anyone, she’d often complain that there wasn’t enough computers, or the virtual map room was too small and out of date, but really she loved it. She knew it was her Moo Moo’s pride and joy. She often sneak off for hours to spend time to read the light novels, comic books, and manga.
Recently though, she had discovered a very interesting room. It was the room of obituary records. They were fascinating. The obituaries were all very detailed. Some of them went on for pages, detailing family trees, telling personal stories, and most even had a few pictures to go along with them. MG had been obsessed with them for months. It was just recently though that she had started wondering about the death of her Moo Moo’s friends. She had scoured the obituary room look for records on them, but found nothing.
Then she found out why…the royal obituary weren't in the library. They were in a special obituary room, in the catacombs, under the royal graveyard. She had learned about it from her teacher, and friend, Night Flight. Night Flight was the royal artist. She also gave private artist lessons to Midnight Glimmer. They had been in the catacombs a few weeks ago collecting moss for a project, when MG asked about a door.
“Night Flight…what does that door lead too?” asked MG
“That’s where they keep the death records, for all the royal ponies. The ones who are buried here at least.” Replied her teacher.
“You mean the obituaries....can we go look at them?” the now very excited MG asked.
“I’m afraid not. Your Moo Moo has made it very clear that they are off limits. I’m not sure why…so don’t ask. I don’t know why they are down here either. They used to keep with the other death records, but not anymore. When your Moo Moo moved here to Canterlot, she ordered all the royal records be moved down here. She built this room special, and only she has a key that can open the lock.” Night Flight told her.
For an artist Night Flight was a stickler for rules. You could tell she was old too the way she kept calling the obituaries death records. It made MG chuckle a little.
Of course her Moo Moo would be old fashion and use a lock and key. Didn't she know that the latest hoof- lock security was much less easier to break into? Maybe she figured, that no one would ever want to steal some dusty old records from a creepy catacomb.
Yet today that’s what is was going to do. It was the perfect day. Moo Moo was away on official business. With the help of her friend, Glint. Glint was a super hacker genius. She could break into anything. Surely a normal lock and key door would be no problem for her. It wasn't.
“Seriously girl, when you said you had a special job for me I didn't expect it to be so…blah…” complained Glint.
“Hey….” MG didn't know how to respond to that so she just slipped inside the room, and shut the door.
The room was actually really nice. It was quite large, and almost looked like a miniature version of the royal library. MG found what she was looking for in no time. Even though her Moo Moo’s friends weren't technically royalty they were always treated as such. MG knew they were buried in this graveyard because he Moo Moo had moved them here when she moved to Canterlot. Her Moo Moo wanted to keep them all together. That’s the only thing she ever said about their deaths.
MG grabbed the book she needed. She quickly threw it into her saddle bag and then joined Glint back outside.
“Got what you need?” asked Glint.
MG nodded yes. Glint quickly locked the door back, and they headed down the hall like nothing had happened. MG knew she wouldn't have to worry about Glint telling anyone. She could tell Glint found the job way too boring to mention it to anyone. When they got out of the catacombs MG said goodbye to Glint and head directly to her room upstairs. She had some reading to do.
MG jumped onto her king sized bed, and open the book the very section she needed. The book was called Non-Royals in the Royal Graveyard (a death record book). What a stuffy title thought Midnight glimmer. It wasn't as old as some as the other obituary books she had read. It must have been updated when Moo Moo moved her friend’s body to the royal graveyard.
MG looked down at the first page. It said RAINBOW DASH in big bold letters.
