Slipping Away

The night it happened was bright and cheerful.

Ponies were skipping and laughing, savouring the last hours of daylight.

You, my dearest Fluttershy, were one of these ponies.

Flying freely through the air without a care in the world.

Your wings cutting through the sky. Your mane flowing in the wind.

It was a beautiful sight.

At least, until that... damned Pegasus shot you down!

I watched in horror as the lightning bolt hit your frail body, causing you to plummet to the ground.

Without thinking, I spread my wings, racing towards your falling figure.

As I neared, a flash of hope sparked inside of me.

I pumped my wings to their limits, my mane tangling in the harsh wind.

I sighed in relief as I felt your form collide with my body, which quickly turned to horror as I discovered we were now both falling to our deaths.

In natural instinct, my wings spread to their limits, attempting to lift our bodies with a caught gust of wind.

However no gust came, and it was only then I noticed I was the one on the bottom.

You had a chance of survival, even if it at the cost of my own life.

Moments before our body's made impact with the ground, you dropped below me, sacrificing yourself to save me.

I opened my mouth, to scream, to call your name, to protest...

But before any sound could get out, we hit the ground, throwing my world into black.
