The Decision

The group of six mares and one young stallion occupied a room which seemed too small. The tallest, an alicorn with a blue coat and a pale purple mane, was the clear leader, wearing the mask and uniform of the Matterhorn. The next tallest, a pale cream Earth pony with tufts of green mane curling from her uniform, was her second in command, and went by the handle of Mistress Marevelous. The next was Fillysecond, wearing her iconic white jumpsuit with the neon arrows, with only her turquoise eyes, blue muzzle, and a small curl of indigo mane escaping. Then, there was Saddle-Rager, with her flowing yellow mane and white coat. Zapp, bearing weight not entirely from going to pasture, wore her customary indigo uniform, her wild black mane in contrast to her grey coat and peach-colored eyes. Radiance, the unicorn with her stunning pale-pink coat and elegantly-straight silver mane, was also present. Last was Humdrum, the youngest of the group and a stallion with a light purple coat and a yellow mane.

“Zapp, how long have you been…” Matterhorn hesitated, flushing like a young filly under her silver mask.

Zapp wasn’t amused. “I’ll be due in the spring, so I’m about five months along.” She sat awkwardly, her slightly rounded belly protruding.

“And when were you going to tell us?” Marevelous sounded somewhat angry. She took it upond herself that she knew anything about any team member which could harm or help the team.

Zapp snorted. “I wouldn’t have had to if I hadn’t had that collapse,” She replied. In the middle of a battle, she had ended up fainted mid-air, and the only reason she had been able to go to the hospital was that Saddle-Rager had caught her before she’d hit the ground.

Saddle-Rager put her two bits in. “Why not? We’d love a foal around.”

“You guys don’t get it!” Zapp snapped irritably. “We’re all adults, and we’re not getting any younger. Not even Matterhorn over there. Tell me, who’s going to defend the city while we’re having kids and families?” She smacked her hooves against the ground.

“Why not train ponies with powers? We can build up our numbers!” Fillysecond blurted out, eating a daisy sandwich. She burned calories as if there was no tomorrow.

Radiance stared at the blue speedster. “What an excellent idea!” She paused, passing a brush through her mane. “Though how would we do such a thing?”

The group suddenly had a conspiring look shared among them. Humdrum sighed.
