It happens once every galactic cycle that three galaxies align in order to make a break through space-time. This rip in the very fabric of space creates a trans-dimensional passage between worlds. Mankind’s ignorance towards the movement of galaxies due to internal conflicts has left us unaware of such phenomena. The Milky Way, Andromeda and Canis Major have aligned perfectly in such a way that a wave of dimensional energy has been launched at our galaxy thus uniting our dimension with another.
“In the heart of Europe a giant disk-like spiral has appeared causing the disappearance of two policemen who are said to have been pulled in the portal. An international committee between the world’s most prominent leaders has been arranged to take security measures against this extraordinary occurrence. Can this be the cause of a failed scientific experiment or is it perhaps the doing of other worldly beings? Stayed tuned for more, after the break.”
I turned off the TV and looked outside; the grey streets were deserted as thousands of people rushed to get away from the scene. The object was right in the center of the city and the evacuation was ordered. A total of seven hundred thousand people were going to be relocated to government-created camps and a quarantine was going to be set up. I for one decided to stay hidden and watch the paranormal spectacle.
Twilight was reading in her castle reading through the new books Princess Celestia has given her. Suddenly Spike runs into the room, holding a book under his right hand. It was glowing purple and Twilight recognized it, it was the book Sunset Shimmer used to tell her about the Sirens.
“Twilight! It’s happening again!”
Twilight lifted the book with her magic and laid it on the table, she began to read and her eyes widened.
“We must get in touch with Princess Celestia immediately!” She told Spike.
“Cool, I will go tell the other!” Spike told Twilight and started running out the room.
“NO, Spike! I believe it would be best that nobody else hears this.”
Princess Celestia read the message and used her horn to make a vision appear, she started:
“I have read about something similar to this long ago, one such portal appeared in our world and we were overrun by terrible creatures. All seemed lost until the portal was closed by Starswirl the Bearded and most of the creatures returned to their world. It is said that they were similar to our old friend Tirek.
“But why now, why did it open now and why did in open in the land were my Canterlot High friends are in?” Twiligh asked worried.
“I’m afraid I don’t have all the answers” Celestia continued, “but I understand that these portals open in realms similar to the land on the other side. Without magic to close the portal in your friends’ world, who knows what is on the other side.”
“In that case we have to help them! We have to warn them of whatever exists behind that portal. I’ll go.” Twilight starts running towards the door.
“Wait, Twilight!”
Twilight turns around and looks at Celestia. She lifts up some kind of amulet and gives it to Twilight.
“This is an ancient amulet forged by some of the most powerful unicorns in history; it should allow you to use at least some of your magic in any world you travel in. Good luck!”
Twilight smiles and continues to run towards Ponyville.
The military had set up a total quarantine around the sector; it seems that even if I wanted to get out I couldn’t. Russia, the US, China, Germany and a lot of other countries volunteered to work together to monitor the situation. A two kilometer non-action radius was set up around the anomaly in order to make sure nobody got pulled in. From time to time I see military scientist teams approaching the object to take readings. I’m not sure what would happen if they were to find me but I suppose it wouldn’t be good so I will just stay hidden for the time being. I have set up a small telescope near my window in order to have a good view on the action but nothing seems to happen. I wonder if it is actually something alien, and if it is; is it hostile?
Twilight was ready to enter the portal she built when Spike entered the room.
“Twilight, I’m not sure this is such a good idea.” Spike muttered.
“Spike, it is better for them to not know where we are actually going, it can be very dangerous.”
“Yeah, I know but I don’t like having to lie to them, especially Rarity. She’d get very upset if she found out”
“Spike, in that letter we said we were going somewhere important; and we are, so it is not exactly a lie is it?”
“I guess so…” Spike mumbled. She enters the portal, unaware of a hooded figure watching from the window.
As soon as Twilight stepped out of the portal she was petrified, she was staring at some kind of black portal the size of Canterlot High. She spotted Sunset Shimmer behind a bush signing her to come over to talk. Before Twilight could even start to speak, Sunset started talking;
“While I was still Celestia’s student I remember reading something like this. I mean two… people… like us, came out of it and started running as soon as they spotted us. I doubt they’re the only ones to come.”
“Celestia sent me here to see what’s on the other side. She also gave me this,” Twilight pulls out the amulet “It is supposed to allow me to use at least some magic wherever I go.”
“Wait, there is no way you’re going in there alone!” Sunset Shimmer cut her off.
“I’m sorry but you can’t come with me, I don’t want any of you to get hurt. Who knows what is on the other side of that portal?” Twilight answers.
“Exactly that’s why I’m going to come with you. I know a few things about alternate worlds so I’m sure I can help.”
“I guess you’re right.” Twilight admitted.
“In that case let’s go!” Sunset Shimmer says as she pulls Twilight in the portal.

Yeah the reason the portal is open is a bit scifi-like but i didnt have that many ideas for it...
