Awkward research
It was another sunny beautiful day in Ponyville. The children were all on their way to school, some with their heads hanging low because of the homework they should’ve finished but didn’t, some others still sleepy and a few of them, like Dinky Doo and Sweetie Belle, were excited and eager to know what new thing they would learn today.
The adults were on their way to work, or going to the market place as usual, nothing out of the ordinary at all… well, except for a certain mint green colored unicorn that was on her way to Princess Twilight’s castle, mumbling to herself.
“C’mon Lyra! Get it together!” the unicorn thought “You can do this. I’m sure lots of unicorns have done this kind of research…right?” Lyra’s face was covered with a light blush. She kept walking at a fast pace, looking down and playing with her hair nervously. “I’ll just go and ask Princess Twilight directly. I’m sure it’s gonna be fine… but what if she feels offended? What if she suddenly calls the royal guards on me? Can they even throw me in jail for asking this kind of thing to a princess?” Lyra was so focused that she didn’t saw the incoming green and purple dragon until it was too late.
“Ow” Spike said as he bumped into Lyra, making her fall backwards. “Oh, I’m so sorry Lyra! Are you okay?” Spike said as he offered Lyra his hand to help her back up.
“Uh, yeah” Lyra said as she grabbed his hand and was pulled back up effortlessly. “I should be the one apologizing Spike, sorry I didn’t see you. I was… distracted”
“I’ve noticed” Spike chuckled “Do you mind if I ask what was distracting you?”
“Actually, yeah” She said playing with her hands “It’s a personal thing.”
“Oh, sorry for being nosey”
“It’s okay” Lyra smiled.
“Are you on your way to the libra- I mean, the castle? I can’t help but calling it library” The teenage dragon laughed.
“Yes” Lyra said and looked at the dragon strangely “How did you know?”
Spike returned the strange look “’Cause you are standing right in the front doors…”
Lyra stared at him for a moment and then slowly looked around. She was in fact, almost inside the castle. “Oh. Right”
“Are you feeling okay Lyra?” Spike asked concerned.
“Yeah, just… nevermind. Is Princess Twilight available right now?”
“Yeah, she’s in the library section of the castle. It’s straight down this path, going through the throne room, the big doors to the left. You can’t miss it.”
“Okay, thank you Spike” Lyra said smiling
“No problem. I have to go now. Rarity needs help finding some more gems”
Lyra looked at the dragon straight in the eye “Oh, and that’s all you two do?” She raised an eyebrow and smiled.
Spike’s face turned completely red “OF COURSE! WHAT ELSE COULD WE BE DOING! NOTHING! NOTHING AT…” Spike realized he was screaming when he noticed Lyra trying too hard not to laugh and some of the people walking down the street looking at him strangely. “…I’mgoingnowBYE!” He yelled as he started walking towards Carousel Bourtique at an impressive speed.
“Oh, the poor guy. I really hope Rarity gives him a chance. He’s just too adorable sometimes” Lyra smiled and she made her way through the hallway and into the throne room. Once she entered she immediately saw the doors to the left, but instead of going straight there, she looked all around the throne room. She had already been here before when the castle came out of the ground, literally. But she still couldn’t help but being amazed and somewhat shocked at the perfection and beauty of the whole place. “How is it possible a castle was buried under Ponyville and nobody knew a thing about it?” She wondered as she looked at every direction. “Could it have belonged to an ancient king, maybe even before Princess Celestia and Princess Luna were born?”
“That’s would be fascinating wouldn’t it?” Lyra jumped in the air as she heard the voice, but sighed in relief when she realized it was Princess Twilight Sparkle the one talking “Oops, sorry. I should’ve announced myself”
“No, no. You don’t need to apologize” Lyra bowed “Your highness”
Twilight blushed a bit and a nervous laugh escaped her lips.
“What is it your highness?” Lyra asked
“Oh nothing” Twilight said “It’s just that I’m still not completely used to that. It still gets me every now and again.” Twilight smiled
“Oh, yeah. I guess it must be normal.” Lyra returned the smile.
“Yeah” Twilight said “So, what brings you here Lyra? Anything I can help you with?”
Lyra remembered the reason she came here and her gaze dropped to the floor. She started playing with her fingers again and her cheeks turned pink.
“Oh my Lyra, are you okay?” Twilight asked and she took a step forward.
“Yes! Yes, I’m fine!” Lyra smiled widely and a drop of sweat ran down the side of her face. “What do I do?” she thought, trying not to panic “Do I ask her directly? Do I ask her indirectly? …DO I RUN AWAY?!” Lyra shook her head “NO! No. Calm down Lyra Heartstrings, remember, you are doing this for Bon Bon. You can’t let her down.” Lyra took a deep breath, exhaled and looked straight in the worried eyes of the princess standing right in front of her. “Princess Twilight Sparkle…” She said in a serious tone.
“Y-yes? What is it?” Twilight asked
A tense aura formed around the two of them, the look on Lyra’s face was unreadable. It made Twilight nervous, but she just stood still and waited. This had to be extremely important. After some minutes of tense silence, Lyra spoke again.
“Where’s the “A” section of your library?” She said.
“…..what?” The princess of friendship asked.
“Where’s the “A” section of the library?” Lyra asked again, her expression still unreadable.
“You mean the section with all the books that start with A”
Lyra nodded rapidly
Something wasn’t right. “Why did it take you so long to ask me such a simple question?”
Lyra’s expression remained the same “I don’t know”
“She’s obviously hiding something” Twilight thought. “This is very strange. Should I keep an eye on her? I don’t think she’s planning on doing anything bad, I mean she IS Lyra Hearts-“Twilight’s train of thought derailed as an idea suddenly came to her mind. Without wasting anytime she started charging an attack spell.
Lyra jumped backwards “Wait! What are you doing princess?!”
“I ain’t gonna be fooled again by one of your kind changeling!” Twilight roared
“WHAT?! NO! I’m not a changeling!!!” Lyra screamed waving her arms in a panic.
“Oh yeah? Then you won’t mind me checking you with a detection spell right?”
“No, not at all.”
“I knew it!” Twilight screamed pointing her finger at Lyra. “Wait, what did you say?”
Lyra sighed “I said I don’t mind. Check me with that spell”
Twilight was dumbfounded. She casted the spell and check every part of Lyra’s body. A blush of embarrassment covered her face when she saw she was in fact Lyra Heartstrings. “I AM SO, SO, SO, SO, SO, SO, SO, SO SORRY!!! I was sure you were a changeling. Please forgive me!”
“No need to apologize princess. It’s okay. Really!”
“No it’s not. I am princess now; I should think before I act, I threatened a innocent civilian’s life! I’m the worst princess there’s ever been!”
“Oh no” Lyra thought “She’s having one of those famous panic attacks again. I better do something before she goes psycho bonkers again!” “No, it’s fine. I know I was acting suspicious. It’s normal for you to think something like that. I should be the one apologizing for acting so weird.”
That seemed to work, at least she stopped breathing heavily and her hair stopped getting messy.
“Oh yeah, that reminds me. Why were you acting like that?” Twilight said with a questioning look.
“Well” Lyra thought “It worked for her, not for me” “I… can’t tell you.” Lyra said staring at her feet.
“What do you mean? Why can’t you tell me?” Twilight asked
“It’s… embarrassing.”
“Lyra, you are obviously looking for a book. Otherwise, why would you want to go to the library? Well, if you want a book you’ll need my help. Because if you are planning on looking through wall sized book shelves all by yourself, then you are gonna be here for a while.”
“She’s right.” Lyra thought “The library already had lots of books. I don’t want to even think how many books it has now that it’s a castle” Finally, Lyra sighed defeated. “Very well princess Twilight. I’ll tell you.”
Twilight nodded her head and put her hands on her waist.
After exhaling a long breath, Lyra said “It’s about Bon Bon. And me. And our relationship…”
“Oh, is there something wrong?” Twilight asked concerned “You are not going to break up are you? You two make such a wonderful couple”
“What? No. Of course not. We love each other very much, I’ll tell you that.” Lyra said smiling “It’s about something else. It’s about… let’s say…” Lyra took a few moments to think “Taking the next step, I guess.”
“Taking the next step?” Twilight scratched her head confused “But aren’t you two already married?”
“Sweet merciful Celestia, she’s very slow when it comes to this stuff” Lyra thought “Or maybe she’s doing it just to make me say it” “Yes princess, we are already married. It’s about the next step after you get married.” “If she doesn’t get it this time, swear to Celestia I’ll flip out!” the unicorn thought.
“But the next step would be…” Twilight gasped and a smile made its way to her lips “Wait, you mean you two want to… raise a child?” The last part came as a squeak of contained joy.
Lyra nodded and in less than a second found herself held in a tight embrace.
“OH MY GOSH LYRA! This is amazing! You must be very happy.” Slowly, Twilight released the mint green girl “Sorry, I got a teeny tiny bit carried away”
“You don’t say” Lyra smiled.
“So, what were you looking for? I don’t see how I could help you.” Twilight said “If you want to know about making an adoption, you should ask Mayor Mare, not me.”
“No princess, it’s that. We don’t want an adoption.” Lyra went red once again.
“I’m sorry Lyra, but I’m a bit lost here. If you don’t want to adopt a child then how are you-“And then it hit Twilight with the force a freight train. “Oh, you mean you want to…”
“Yes princess” Lyra said her face redder than before. “I want to learn that spell. So that we can both have a child. A child of our own.”
“Oh” Twilight said “Well, now I understand everything” They both shared a nervous laugh “Well, thanks Celestia you told me, because I don’t have that kind of spell books at plain sight.” Twilight whispered “I’ll look for it right now, you wait here” And with a wink, Twilight left.
Lyra was left alone in the throne room. She let out a long sigh of relief and almost fell on her knees “I can’t believe I made such a big deal out of it. I should’ve known Twilight would be totally cool with this. She is still Twilight Sparkle after all. They might give her wings and a crown, but she’ll always be Twilight Sparkle” Lyra smiled and waited for the purple alicorn to return.
After some minutes Twilight returned with a pretty thick book under her arm “Here it is” She said and she gave the book to Lyra. Lyra looked at the back of it first and then turned it around to read the title. It read “Passion Is Magic, all of the spells a unicorn needs to enhance their sexual life” Lyra chuckled “I can see why you would hide it”
“Yeah, we wouldn’t want young unicorn children reading this kind of things right?”
“All hell would break loose, let me tell you that” A short laugh was shared and Lyra spoke again “And where exactly is that spell?”
“Look in the first page, there’s a list of all of the spells”
Lyra opened the book and looked through the list of spells. “Ah, here it is. How to transform female genitalia into male genitalia and vice versa.”
“Shhhhh! Don’t say it out loud!” Twilight said
“Oops, sorry” A sheepish smile came to the girls face “So, how much is it? I presume this still works like a library right?”
“Yes it does, but I’ll make an exception on this one” Twilight winked.
“Really?” Lyra said and when the princess nodded Lyra went for a hug that was more than welcome by said princess. “I can’t thank you enough for this Twilight”
“No problem Lyra” They broke the hug “Just promise me you’ll be the greatest mother in the world. That’ll be enough”
“That’s asking a bit too much” Lyra laughed “But I’ll try. I promise”
And after some small chat, they both waved each other goodbye and with the book held against her chest Lyra went back to her house and to the love of her life.
