Night Four

After a long time of struggle and tragedy, Pink Amenia’s Café will be closing by years end.

Despite a year-long search for a buyer, the other owners in Equestria didn’t seem to want to buy the . . . tragic place.

Finally rested nicely and alert for anything, I walked to the café in front of me. I walked inside, and kept my head facing the hallway in front of me. I heard moans and whispers behind me, but figured it was just my messed up mind tricking me, or it was just my imagination. I walked into the office, my legs numb from walking in the snow, and my uniform on from the night before. I slept in my uniform. Don’t judge me, I was tired.

I put on my hat and looked at the tablet for a few seconds before clicking it on. The flashlight was in my belt-buckle in case I needed it, and I thought I was ready for anything: Fluttershy, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, or Pinkie. But I wasn’t ready for what came next.

The phone rang as usual, at twelve-o-one, and the mare talking on the phone started to talk, her voice shaky. I heard a banging noise at the door, and almost thought Twilight was at my door, punching her hoof on the glass to scare me, but it was the phone. “Uh, hey, night four, I knew you could do it.” She sounded as if she was going to cry, but she kept going as if nothing were to happen. “Uh, hey listen, you know in the backstage, they have all the . . . empty heads. C-could you check those?” More banging noises came from the phone, and I could tell she was shaking from how she sounded. “I-I-I always wondered what was in those empty head.” She stopped for a couple of moments and the tune from Pinkie started to play. “You know . . . oh no.” All I could hear next was a loud scream and static.

I placed the tablet on the table carefully, and I turned to the door to my left. It was only twelve o’clock, but better safe than sorry. I never lived by that phrase did I? Anyway, I clicked the light on and saw nothing so I popped the camera back up. I stared at the animatronics on the stage for a while, and then flicked to Rainbow’s Cove. I breathed heavily, but I kept going back and forth between cameras. After about three minutes of flicking through lights, I pulled out the flashlight from my belt-buckle, and I flicked it on. Keeping it tightly in between my teeth, I walked outside. I spread my wings, but didn’t dare go into the air.

I started to walk around the café when I heard moaning surrounding my ears. Whining then replaced it, and I quickly walked to the wall next to the bathroom. I kept quiet as I passed the bathroom; though I saw Fluttershy on the stage she could see me from the light there. I walked towards where I knew the kitchen was, and was about to look when I heard another whining noise from behind me. My ears turned around and I heard it growing louder. I quickly turned towards my office, and I ran. I walked inside, breathing heavily from running, but quickly shaking myself.

I pulled up the tablet, and I started to click on the separate cameras. My eyes were sadly alert, and the power wasn’t draining very much. My twitchy wing was clicking on every camera it could, and as soon as I saw Twilight was gone, and breathed in, turned to the light switch and started to flick it on. Then I turned to the other one, and clicked it. I saw nothing but the flickering light, and I sighed. I pulled the tablet back to my face, and I started to look at the cameras. Fluttershy was in the bathroom, and Twilight was in the room with all the . . . empty heads. I shuddered, and turned to the clock. It was three a.m. I sighed with relief and looked at the show stage.

My eyes shrunk with horror when I saw Pinkie not in her little spot on the stage. My wings soon ached, and I had to result on using my hoof and nose. After a long while of looking through the cameras, I started to hear noises. My ears twitched back and forth, and I finally heard it from the door next to me. Twilight’s violet eyes were peeking through the door, a glowing smile soon formed beneath them. I hesitated for a second, but then pushed the door down. Whining came through the door, and I eventually lay my ears on my head.

I sat quietly in the little chair behind me, and I pulled my hat off. I set it on the table in front of me and looked at the time. Still three a.m. and the percentage was at seventy percent. How you may ask? Well, don’t ask me, I’m just a security guard. My eyes were soon getting heavy, and they started to close now and then, but I kept them wide open when I was on the cameras. I stared at Twilight who was now right next to my door. She was gone though, so I put the tablet down and walked over to the door button. I heard hoof-steps, and when I turned back the tablet was gone. I pulled out my flashlight and clicked it on. I stifled a yawn and I walked outside the right door. I quickly popped my head back in the door to see what time it was. Still three a.m. and the percentage was at sixty. I sighed, and walked outside. I heard hoof-steps walking towards the stage, and I quietly followed them. My shaky hooves made it hard to be quiet, but I didn’t breathe until I reached the stage room.

My eyes were blurred with fear and I saw Pinkie’s cold eyes in the bathroom. I quickly passed her, hoping my bright blue pelt wouldn’t show, and I walked towards the hoof-steps. I soon heard something drop, and I jumped, slapping my ears to my blonde mane. I breathed heavily, and passed Rainbow’s Cove. I soon saw the tablet, cracked on one side, but still functional. I realized I hadn’t seen Twilight so I hid in a corner, safe from the animatronics, and started to look through cameras. I saw her still next to my door, waiting. I then looked for Fluttershy, who was apparently in the kitchen. Pinkie still stood in the bathroom, her black eyes only having two white dots as light. I looked at the clock on the tablet, seeing it was four a.m. and I sighed with relief. Then the tablet blacked out, only static covering it.

I flicked through cameras, knowing it was still functional, for I saw the map at the bottom of it. I soon stopped when it showed up. I saw on my right door, Fluttershy stood, waiting, and on my left, Twilight stared into my room. I whined, and quickly covered my mouth when I heard somepony walking behind me. A small voice whispered behind me. “W-w-w-well hey kids, my names P-P-Pinkie Pie and I l-l-love to have f-f-fun! Th-these are my friends T-T-T-T-twilight and Flutters-shy.” I didn’t dare turn my head around. Pinkie could be standing right behind me, waiting for the right time to strike. I heard a scraping noise and soon heard a terribly familiar voice.

Fluttershy joined in with Pinkie Pie, saying what she would normally say on stage. “H-hello-o-o, my name’s Fluttershy and I-I love animals. I also love to-to-to sing!” She started to hum a small song, and heard another voice join with them. “M-me too, Fluttershy,” Twilight said, her voice stuttering like the others, “but I also-also-also love to use my m-m-magic to bring everything to life!” Bursts of light came from behind me and I began to cry silently.

I looked at the time, seeing five a.m. flickering at the top. Then I looked at the percentage and saw thirty percent. I stared in agony, and I heard a small whine. “Wh-wh-where’s Rainbow Dash?” Twilight asked, the noise of her joints moving close behind me. “Sh-she loves to fly with me and teach us how to.” Then the noise of flapping wings, yet hard and robotic, came from behind me.

“I-I’m here, Twilight, hope you weren’t worried ‘bout me.” She started to laugh, and I turned my head slowly around to see them all standing on the stage, laughing together. I didn’t really get why they laughed, not why I laughed at that when I was younger. It really was a sad joke . . . why am I even talking about this? It’s five a.m. and I still have a chance to get to the office. I quickly started to charge towards the office, and I heard all the animatronics stop laughing.

My chest heaved when I got back and I quickly shut both doors. It was five thirty-two. My legs were tired from running down the hallway, and my brain was buzzing with the thought of the animatronics stuffing my dead body into a Twilight suit. A banging noise came from the door on my left, and a small voice came from it. “I-I don’t want to hurt ya’.” It was Rainbow Dash’s voice. I obviously didn’t open the door.

A loud scream, like the one from the call from the last security guard, came from outside.

Sorry, that was a very . . . disturbing moment for me. I skipped through all the awful noises that came from outside. I’ll try not to write about that, but I can’t make any promises: especially tomorrow night. Anyway, I soon stopped going through the cameras, and started to think about what would happen when somepony saw that I broke the tablet. I probably wouldn’t get fired for such a small crack, but my boss was strict and the people who worked here were asses, so I wouldn’t count on them for keeping a secret.

It was five forty-three. Everything was quiet. The animatronics were strewn about the café and I still stood in my office, my eyes locked on the small tablet. The crack at the top stopped bugging me, but it messed with the pictures on the screen. I put down the tablet, and started to flick the lights off and on. Pinkies tune came from outside the right door, so I kept it closed for a while. I started to look at the time more frequently: five fifty-two, fifty-three, and fifty-four. It wasn’t flying, but it was still moving. I wanted to leave as soon as possible. I needed answers and I needed to not die. Dash and Rainbow wouldn’t like it that much if I just suddenly disappeared. Especially with Cake gone now . . . sorry, got off track there.

The story of the missing fillies did always haunt me. Some say that they were stuffed into the suits of the animatronics. I say that’s just a myth, and the animatronics just get buggy. I soon saw five fifty-nine on the clock and started to pack up my stuff. I grabbed the jacket that I finally brought. It was supposed to snow that night, and if I walked outside with my uniform on, ponies would start asking questions. I took off my hat, and yawned. I was ready to get home and sleep in my bed. I saw six o’clock on the clock and the alarm started to buzz off. I turned it off, and turned around, walking out of the office, the hallway and eventually the café.

If you’re wondering, Cake was my daughter. Her sweet little eyes, her little smile is all I remember, but those fuzzy memories mess with my temper . . .
