I first saw her one day in Ponyville. She had come to town to perform a magic show. A crowd grew around her stage as she began with her fanfare and theatrics. Boasting about her abilities and showing off her tricks. As I looked on I noticed a lot of the other ponies getting annoyed by her boastful ways. I myself was at first skeptical of her but continued to look on at her performance.
It wasn’t long before she started to challenge the ponies to show her up. A few tried, but failed in comparison to her. However the ways she beat them were cruel and mean and eventually the crowd dispersed, refusing to give her any more attention. Even I turned my back on this mare, thinking how bad her attitude was.
Later, however, two ponies brought an Ursa Minor to town so that Trixie could vanquish it. But, faced with the Ursa, she confessed that she had lied and never actually vanquished one before. Luckily, a pony by the name of Twilight Sparkle was there to save the town and defuse the situation. Shown up, Trixie went back to her boastful ways and made a withdrawal from town, disappearing in a poof of smoke.
A few days passed since Trixie had ran out of town when I began to think of her again. I don’t know why I suddenly decided to think of her, but I recalled the memories I had of her. Her boastful ways, her overly offensive attitude, etc. And the more I thought about it, the more I began to think that she wasn’t necessarily a bad mare. She traveled from town to town doing shows, so she couldn’t have had many friends.
It could be that she was traveling to find acceptance, even perhaps praise for her abilities. She showed them off in her fancy show in an attempt to inspire awe in the ponies she entertained. Perhaps she yearned for them to cheer her name and like her. But, if her time in Ponyville as any indication, I think many ponies brushed her off and thought ill of her. If that was the case, she was alone, and had no one to support her in the world.
As the days passed by I continued to think of Trixie every once in a while, and as I did so, my fondness of her grew. And one day, she reappeared in Ponyville. Her eyes had a reddish glow to them, and she wore a cloak clasped together with an amulet instead of her usual magician attire. She quickly challenged Twilight Sparkle to a duel to take revenge on her previous humiliation, which she claims resulted in her being unable to perform her magic show, as the ponies of Equestria now mocked her.
Her power was crazy and she quickly beat Twilight Sparkle, banishing her from Ponyville. Trixie then proceeded to take over Ponyville and force us inhabitants to work for her and remake Ponyville in her image. With all the thinking I did about her between her previous appearance and now, I knew something wasn’t right. She had a bad attitude before, but she would never do something like enslaving the ponies around her, no matter what they did to her. She wasn’t a monster. Something was causing her to act this way, controlling her even. The only thing I could think of was that amulet. However, with her new powers I couldn’t hope to take it from her. I could do nothing but wait, and hope something would happen to save Trixie.
It wasn’t long before my hope yielded fruit. Twilight Sparkle returned and tricked Trixie into removing the amulet. Once it was removed from her, Trixie went back to normal. After things had gotten sorted out, Trixie clad herself in her wizard garb and apologized to Twilight Sparkle, who accepted her apology. I had planned to approach Trixie, but before I could she once again disappeared in a poof of smoke.
At this moment, I realized something, about myself and about Trixie. First, I realized that Trixie was somewhat of a tragic heroine. She taught the ponies of Ponyville lessons and helped them grow, while making herself the villain. While this was probably not her intent, it was a side effect of her actual intent.
Then, I realized that I didn’t just like Trixie, but that I had fallen deeply in love with her. Even though we have never formally met, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. And when I do see her, I am struck speechless and want to do everything in my power to help her. While I have only seen her on two occasions, I cannot wait till next we meet and I am able to confess my love to her.
Trixie is a tragic heroine, someone who is trying to find her place in this world and wants to find acceptance and praise from someone. She might not be the best pony in terms of attitude, but considering she is all alone, she could be worse. I’m sure if everypony got to know her, they could come to enjoy her company and Trixie’s attitude would improve. But, she is shrouded in loneliness and sorrow.
Perhaps I just have a soft spot in my heart for a girl who everyone else seems to shun and dislike. Who, despite this, holds her head up high and is confident in her abilities, or at least acts like she is. Because I know, the moment you give in to the things everypony says about you, and accept them as fact, that is when you lose who you really are. Trixie hasn’t let others get her down, she follows her own path, despite the resistance she faces. She is strong, but tragically so. I want to hold her up, praise her, offer her my hoof when she needs it, and always be there for her when she needs me.
That is why I love Trixie Lulamoon, and always will.
