Breakfast at Twilight's

The Castle of Friendship, a structure which, until relatively recently, had not existed in the town of Ponyville. Now, it was the home of their resident Princess, and former librarian, Twilight Sparkle. Standing tall and beautiful, it was truly a sight to behold. But, at least for the time being, it was still a largely empty building, with Twilight's belongings still in the process of being moved there. Even with all that, there were still many vacant rooms that needed to be taken into account one day. But right now, Twilight, who was busying herself with a nice book in her new kitchen, would deal with those issues at the right time, which wasn't right now. Flipping through her pages, she smiled to herself as she magically levitated a cup of tea to her lips and took a sip.

After drinking it however, her attention was drawn to the unmistakeable sound of somepony yawning loudly. Turning, she smiled as she saw that it was none other than her young dragon assistant, Spike, who was walking in a groggy fashion into the kitchen, still clutching a large, white pillow in one claw. Giggling slightly at the sight of him like this, Twilight spoke up to him.

"Pleasant sleep?"

Spike grumbled a little before answering.

"Not exactly. I suppose I should be grateful. I've had worse nights after all."

Twilight raised an eyebrow at that, showing her clear curiosity over his words. However, before she could enquire about it, Spike spoke up first.

"So...what's for breakfast?"

Twilight shook her head a little. Of course, that would be the first thing he said in the morning. Still, she wasn't one to ignore her assistant's questions, so she smiled a little as she answered.

"Guess that's up to you. I think we have something in the cupboards somewhere."

Spike nodded at that before making his way over to the place Twilight directed him to, dropping off his pillow on the breakfast table as he did so. After a bit of reaching up on his part, Spike opened the door of one of the cupboards, looking inside and finding, to his dismay, that there was nothing in it. Walking to the side a little, he opened another one, only to be greeted with yet more emptiness. He turned to the left, seeing the many, many cupboards along the wall of the kitchen. He let out a groan as he looked at them all.

"Do we really need this many? I mean, there's only the two of us living here."

Twilight looked up from her book and turned her head to where Spike was pointing to. To the young dragon's credit, this was indeed far more kitchen space than she felt the two of them needed, and so gave Spike a nod to show that she agreed with him on this. If nothing else, she suspected that she'd never buy enough food to fill up every available storage space in this one room. Still, dwelling on that wasn't going to feed the two of them anytime soon. So instead, Twilight got up and walked over to where Spike was standing. Her horn now glowing, Spike knew a spell when he saw one, and so stepped back a little, watching carefully as Twilight closed her eyes and turned her head from one side of the room to the next. Eventually, her horn glowed brighter than before as it pointed to a particular cupboard, after which she opened her eyes and smiled.

"I knew that food locator spell would come in handy one day!"

The young Princess was, naturally, completely oblivious to the eye-rolling her assistant was doing, as he was clearly incredulous that such a spell would even exist. Still, Spike remained silent as Twilight walked to her new destination, opened it, and used her magic yet again to levitate the food items that dwelled within. Two boxes emerged, one of a collection of small gemstones and the other full of daisies and other small flowers. Naturally, Spike's eyes lit up at the precious stones, and eagerly accepted it once Twilight lowered it close enough for him. Skipping happily to the table, Spike enthusiastically poured the stones into an already-prepared bowl near his chair. Twilight likewise placed her flowers onto a plate and was now ready to eat breakfast with her lifelong friend. However, before she took her first bite, she glanced over o Spike's bowl, frowning at the sheer quantity of the gems he'd poured into it.

"Geez, Spike! It can't be good for you to have so many at once!"

Spike's mouth was merely watering as he glanced at his breakfast.

"Trust me, Twilight. If you knew what these things tasted like, you wouldn't wanting anything but this amount at breakfast!"

This time it was Twilight's turn to roll her eyes, only this time, the other party saw her do it. Spike narrowed his eyes a little before reaching forward and picking up a single stone, holding it in front of his alicorn friend.

"Alright then...try one."

Twilight raised an eyebrow at that.

"Pardon?"

"Try a gemstone. Then you'll understand why I love em so much," Spike responded.

Twilight scoffed.

"No way! Ponies can't eat dragon food!"

Spike looked at her in a sly manner.

"What was it you once said to me a few years back? You won't know unless you try it?"

Twilight looked away with a look of annoyance on her face.

"I knew that would come back to bite me one day!"

She glanced to the side and saw that Spike was still holding the gem in front of her. Thinking for a moment, a small, yet clearly sneaky smile crept onto Twilight's own face.

"Alright, I accept. If..."

Using her magic, Twilight levitated some of her flowers and placed it into Spike's bowl before carrying on.

"...you try some of my food at the same time."

Spike considered that with a small glower on his face, which Twilight couldn’t help but chuckle. This dual-challenge was not something he was going to back down from, not if it meant letting Twilight get off scott-free in this. So, reluctantly, he sighed and nodded his head, flicking his wrist and sending the gem flying over the table, landing neatly onto Twilight's plate. Spike gave the flowers on his bowl a quick sniff, as too did Twilight with her gem, before both of them took hold of their respective food item. They both kept an eye on each other, almost daring the other to make the first move. Eventually, they both nodded, silently agreeing to do this at the same time. So, in an instant, they threw their respective food into their mouths and shut them tightly.

Unfortunately, this did not go well, as Twilight heard a very loud and distinct crunching sound in her mouth, causing her eyes to widen. As for Spike, the moment he swallowed his flowers he could hear an unpleasant grumbling coming from his stomach, after which a great sense of nausea overcame him, complete with a green tint to his face. The two friends sat there in silence, both letting the discomfort of their situation sink in for a while. Eventually, Twilight, after making a mental note to visit Colgate for a dental appointment later, looked at her assistant with a look that made it clear she'd regretted taking part in all this.

"So...draw?"

After a few moments, Spike nodded.

"Yeah...and let's never speak of this again."
