The afternoon sun warmed Spike's back as he ran, a welcome comfort to the slight chill of mid-October. Much like young colts were prone to find themselves doing, Spike was sprinting to beat closing time at Sugarcube Corner. His bits jingled out a cheer for the baby dragon to pick up speed, promises of pecan pies and strawberry cupcakes making fatigue a simple illusion all too easy for him to ignore.
Twilight had made a promise she was only half sure she would have to keep, being that the task she set forth for the dragon was a daunting one. Miss Cheerilee's Kindergarten class had seen fit to pick the Ponyville library as the perfect place to take a career day field trip, leaving the place with more than a bit of a mess. Truth be told, manipulating matter was a sinch for Twilight Sparkle, so a task like having a congo line of books shimmying and shammying to their appropriate spots wouldn't have taken too much concentration. But Spike had been asking for more of an allowance...
Sure, she had only expected him to be half finished by the day was done. And such an effort was worth around 10 bits, which in itself wasn't a bad haul. But as the sun began to soften its glow and retreat, a clean library welcomed Twilight Sparkle home with an expectant little dragon sitting in the middle of it.

Spike sucked cold, ticklish air into his lungs as he spotted the faux-gingerbread house, with its peppermint decorations and still heartily billowing chimney. Just as his claw nearly touched the heavy oak door, the wood slammed into the digits as it burst open.
"Ugh, can you believe her? She changes her mind every five seconds." A mare with a rather nasaly voice spoke, her head cocked behind her at a stallion, presumably her boyfriend.
