Twilight Sparkle could not sleep. She really wanted to—for she certainly had a lot of important things to do tomorrow—but slumber continued to elude her. It was always more difficult to sleep in a different place, even though the beds in Canterlot Castle were large and luxurious.

She could see why pegasi loved to sleep in clouds whenever possible. For the umpteenth time, she regarded the tangled mess of feathers and bedsheets with frustration, and began extricating herself. “How’d you know that was in there?” he asked incredulously as he threaded his mane into his helmet.

“I just had a hunch.” she answered, along with a small shrug. Like it was no big deal. Like he should drop the subject, if he was savvy. She tidied up a few piles of parchment, and extinguished the lamps. On the way out, she carefully re-shelved her erotic photo book.

The princess let her eyes get used to the darkness for a few seconds, and then carefully made her way to the bed. Loud snores were coming from Spike’s basket, and she gave it a few shallow kicks on the way past. He shifted positions and muttered something unintelligible. When the snoring resumed, it was much quieter.
Twilight gathered up her blankets and pillows, and hastily re-made her bed. She slipped under the covers, and marveled at how comfortable the bed was. So soft. So tired.
