The Path to Oblivion
Night. Rain. Thunder. The same thing. The same conclusion. The same result. Failure. Failure, and just when you expect something else, something glorious, failure. The figure grumbled as he slowly walked his way towards the familiar caverns, where moles dug through the battered dirt and bats hissed at his every step. Perhaps he would befriend them sooner or later, though that was a rather unlikely possibility, as there were more important things at hand.
At the end of the corner was a round table. Wooden. Broken with sharp edges sticking out from the sides, enough to draw blood from a chimera, but not it’s killer. The shadow sat down in one of the dark chairs, which creaked and threatened to collapse under his weight, but stopped as it realized the power of its master. Waiting, he took out a pipe, and began to smoke, watching silently as the trail floated upwards and disappeared into the enveloping darkness. When he looked down, the two others had already arrived, their dark eyes judging him, though too afraid to question, but brave enough to hate.
“I see that you have been waiting long.” The shorter one spoke, his voice raspy and irritated.
Forced to speak in such a situation, he spoke.
“Long enough. Take a seat, my friends.”
The two sat on the other two chairs grumbling, which cackled at their impudence and cowardice. After a long silence, the other one spoke.
“Tirek has been defeated.”
“By her?”
“By her, yes.”
The figure sighed as he took another breath out of his pipe, though this time he did not bother to look at the wisp.
“It is no surprise. Arrogance and pride always does get the better of many when they rise to power.”
The shorter one snorted as the other continued.
“There is more. They seem to now harness the power you have been speaking of this whole time.”
“The rainbow power…yes…it was quite expected.”
Another silence, which was quickly broken by the increasingly angered voice of the dwarf.
“Do you know what they now can do with this sort of power? You stand there, seemingly thinking, as one by one these goddamn ponies defeat our assets, our minions! Chrysalis, Sombra, and now Tirek! I told you that releasing him was a mistake! Now our enemies have this…rainbow power…and you just sit there, smoking your stupid pipe as they now have a way to track us! US!”
Finishing his rant, he fell quiet, although the hatred in his eyes was still blazing with fury. He was not surprised by this outburst, rather pleased.
“Akarizan, relax. Yes, I have condemned all three of them. Yes, I allowed them to gather this rainbow power. But do you knew realize my own?”
“What the hell are you jabbering on about…”
“Did you forget who we are…or to be precise, WHAT we are? Are you that simple-minded, that arrogant, that ignorant, that you fail to notice our own species?”
His words were enough to make Akarizan splutter; yet after a brief moment the dwarf spoke again.
“Who cares what we are? All I know is that these six ponies are going to find them and confine us to stone or trap us in Tarturus!”
“You are such a fool…Dominalke, tell him.”
The one named Dominalke replied quickly, though a bit surprised at him for calling his name.
“We are…lethifolds.”
“Exactly. We drain life energy and digest it into our bodies. But note this, my brothers, we are not just typical Lethifolds. No, we were born with the powers of transforming the life we digest into creatures of our own.”
“And what does that have to do with anything?”
“Remember when you created Sombra, Akarizan? All those years ago?”
Akarizan snorted once again before replying to him.
“Yes, after digesting a dementor and a unlucky unicorn I created him from the unicorn’s energy and the dementor’s dark and haunting nature, creating an evil unicorn-like tyrant who took away all happiness from others.”
“Exactly, we take the most prominent abilities of two creatures and transform them into one being under our bidding. Do you see my point?”
Akarizan began to retort but was quickly interrupted by Dominalke.
“Wait…you don’t mean…?”
He did nothing but smile faintly, his aura glowing with a sinister wave of increasing excitement.
“Remember Chrysalis and the changelings? Simple. A vampire bat and a weakened succubus. Tirek? A centaur, more specifically the brother of Scorpan, who we captured, bonded him with a demon, then sent him back to his brother, who to today still does not know that Tirek’s intentions were all because of us.”
Dominalke was speechless, giving Akarizan time to speak.
“What are you trying to do by telling all of us about the creatures we created to destroy the magic of friendship? Do you mean that you want us to give up, to surrender ourselves to these ponies?”
“Akarizan, you don’t understand what he means…”
“What do you mean I don’t understand Dominalke? And I know is that he is an idiot who can’t get his common sense straight!”
Akarizan’s stupidity was just too much for him, causing him to laugh, a quiet chuckle quickly turning into a menacing and piercing laughter that echoed through the caves before disappearing as quickly as it came.
“No Akarizan, I don’t want us to give up. I don’t want us to surrender to us. I want them to surrender to themselves. In other words, we are going to bond them into our ideal creations.”
With those words, he stepped back and revealed a cage, which was emitting six different waves of hatred and negative energy.
“My brothers, meet the six opposites of friendship. The spirits of betrayal, distrust, cruelty, greed, fury, and of course, dark magic. Anything that we bond with them will be inflicted excessively with an overwhelming amount of that negative emotion until they perish.”
“Monerick…how…how did you…”
“A simple black market down that the depths of Tarturus.”
Akarizan, though impressed, still had doubts.
“But how would we be able to capture any of the mane 6? It seems impossible with the protection of the three alicorns.”
“Even more simple. I had been waiting so long for the box to reveal its castle to the new princess. With the castle, she can now detect friendship problems around Equestria with that silly map of hers. We will make them come to us, separate them with one another, and return them bonded one by one with the spirits of disharmony. Them being the holders of the opposite spirits, they once bonded will be stuck between the gap of disharmony and harmony, switching sides randomly until the negatively takes over completely, forming them into dark evil shells of nothingness while we absorb their life energy away. As you may have noticed, even their rainbow power could not reverse the elements of our bonding. They will fall to the will of darkness.”
“And if they resist?” Dominalke said quietly.
“That’s the best part. Struggling will drive them into insanity.”
Finishing up his speech, he stood up and raised his pipe.
“Trust me my brothers, this time they will fall in the hands of darkness. We will succeed over these foolish horses and absorb all the positive life energy from every living being in this world!”
“TOWARDS THE END OF EQUESTRIA!”
As his brothers cheered, Monerick smiled. Nothing could now stop them.
