A Simple Day for Sparkles

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I don't know where I was, I was somewhere, but I'm not sure where. All around me was blackness, but in the distance was a crimson light, it told me of things I couldn't understand.

It wasn't talking to me, but I could understand that it was communicating with me. I stood up, I didn't even realise I was sitting, and I began to walk towards this light.

It was beckoning me, it told me of things, debauchery, lust, hate, gore, monsters. Family. I don't know what it was saying, I should be horrified, but I wasn't. I should run, but I didn't want to.

It was calling a call that I had to heed.

I looked to my side, Bubbles was walking beside me. I didn't know why.

We both had our own bodies, but I didn't question it. She looked different. There was a mirror in front of me, but I kept walking, the reflection was following. I saw myself. I looked different too, I was scared. But I liked it.

I couldn't see the light, I got scared, had its message stopped? I hoped not. I stopped moving, so did Bubbles, I looked past, there were other people with us, I didn't know who they were, but their presence calmed me. I had no idea why. The light came back, it was a darker shade, but it was brighter, closer, it's message clearer then ever.

But I still didn't know what it was saying.

It told us all to wake up, so we did.

"Wakey, wakey, Twilight!" Called a male voice from the foot of my bed, or a moment, I was scared that Bubbles had brought someone home last night.

"Come on Twilight, you've been sleeping for 10 minutes longer then you've scheduled! And if you don't get out of bed now, I'm the one who's going to have to deal with it later!" Complained the voice.

I felt my blankets pulled off my body, "Ugh, Spike... please, I need more sleep..." I complain as squirm in the sudden cold.

I leaned up and shook my head, trying to get the cobwebs out of my mind. I had a crazy dream last night, but I couldn't remeber for the life of me what had happened in it. I opened my eyes to see Spike looking away, covering his own eyes.

"Uhh, Spike? What's wrong?" I ask.

He continues to look away, before pointing at my chest. I look down to find that I'm completely naked. "Ahh!" I call, before grabbing my blanket and covering myself.

Spike looks back, to see my face furiously blushing, as the blanket makes me look at least half decent. "Twilight, why were you naked?" He asks me, crossing his arms and looking like a disapproving parent.

Shift my eyes from left to right, "I was, uhh, really hot last night." I say.

You can say that again!

Oh hush, you.

I'm an awful lair, but I hope that the excuse sounds realistic enough that Spike wont notice.

Spike suddenly puts his arms to his face, "Have I been breathing fire in my sleep again?" He asks.

"Uhh, yeah..." I say, glad that he finished my lie for me.

"Oh Jeez, sorry Twi, it just happens sometimes, ya know?" He says, looking very guilty.

I suddenly feel very bad, I hate it when he takes responsibility for these kinds of things. Especially when the thing he's feeling bad about doesn't even exist. "Don't worry about it, Spike, it wasn't that bad."

That seems to cheer Spike up a bit, "Alright. Anyway, I'm going to be in the kitchen preparing breakfast, and as always-"

"Yeah yeah, if I'm not there in time you get to eat my food."

Spike smirks at this as he exits the room.

"Honestly, that dragon..." I mumble as I step out of bed and make my way to my bathroom. Spike is a weird little drake, if it wasn't for his permanently spiky hair and tail, you wouldn't even know he wasn't a person.

I do my morning routine in the bathroom, brush hair, wash face, think about applying make-up, but decide I can't be bothered, that kind of stuff.

I walk back into the bedroom, and walk to my dresser, and pull out the first thing I find. Which happens to be a simple white blouse, red skirt, and a black bra and panties, none of which is very fashionable, but unless I know for sure that I'm meeting up with Rarity, I don't usually try very hard with my appearance. I have Bubbles to be worried about that kind of stuff.

I walk down the stairs of the library, and straight into the main bulk of the library, which is, not very surprisingly, the library itself. I walk through the large room and into the kitchen, it isn't very interesting, apart from the fact that it's the only room in the house which isn't all wood. In fact, it's a fairly industrial kitchen, it's all white and sterile, the bench tops are stainless steel, and if it wasn't for the dining table and window to the outside world, one could be fooled into thinking that it was, indeed, a industrial kitchen.

I closed my eyes, and took a deep breath through my nose, and smelt a heavenly smell. "Your cooking smells as great as ever, Spike."

"Uhh, Twilight?" Says Spike, sounding unsure.

I open my eyes and look at him, he's sitting at the table, eating a bowl of chocolate cereal.

"I'm not cooking anything." Said Spike, before having another spoonful of cereal.

"Oh, uhh... Well then..." I now recognise the smell, it is that of chocolate cereal. "Did you pour me a bowl?" I ask.

Spike swallows, then laughs nervously, "Heh, well, you see Twilight," he looks away, blushing, "This is your bowl." He says, blushing furiously.

"Oh come on, Spike! I wasn't that long, in fact, I was pretty swift this morning." I say, crossing my arms in annoyance.

"Heh, sorry Twilight, but I'm really hungry this morning..." He says before taking another bite of my cereal.

I get myself a bowl, and begin to pour my self some more cereal.

Spike looks at me awkwardly, before rubbing the back of his neck.

I stop pouring and look Spike straight in the face, "You're eating the last of the milk, aren't you?" I ask, though I already know the answer.

"Uhh, maybe?" He says, before lifting the bowl to his face and drinking the left over milk in his bowl.

I groan and slam my face into the table.

Spike takes his bowl o the sink while looking at me, a concerned look on his face, "Hey Twi, you alright? You look a bit out of it."

"What? You mean apart from hungry?" I say, frowning.

This causes Spike to giggle.

I ignore his giggling and continue on, "Agh, I had a terrible sleep last night, I had the weirdest dream."

"Really? What was it about? What happened in it?" Spike asked, as he put the cereal back into the cupboard in which it came.

"That's the thing, I can't remember, every time I try to it's all fuzzy, and every time I think I'm about to remember a detail, it scurries away." I say, as I magic some bread into the toaster.

"Yeah, that sounds like a dream alright." Says Spike, as we walks up to me and pulls some puppy eyes on me. "Hey Twilight, can I spend the day with the CMC?" He asked me.

I lean back in my chair and look to the main room of the library, it looks clean, and there's nothing out of place. "Alright, I can't see any problems with that."

He hugs me, before running for the door. "Thanks Twilight!" He opens the door, but pokes his head around before leaving, "Oh, and Twilight, the bread's stale." He says.

"Why you-!" I call, but the door's already closed and he's probably on the other side of Equestria by now, knowing how fast that boy can run.

My stomach rumbles, I'm hungry as all hell, and now Spike's informed me that the only food left on the house is inedible.

I could go for something hot, and sweet right now... Groaned Bubbles.

While I'm fairly certain that you're talking about penises, I'm going to pretend that you meant Sugar Cube Corner! I proclaimed, as I stood up.

I walked into the library, then to the door, I slipped my feet into the heels that I'd left there, the only reason I wore these heels was because they were easy to slip on and off.

I started my trek towards the town bakery, taking in the beautiful weather Ponyville had today, the sky was blue, the sun was shining bright, and there was only a single cloud in the sky. I could guess who's it was, judging by the small tuffs of rainbow hair handing over the side.

I was expecting Rainbow Dash to be sleeping, but the moment I got close to her cloud, she stuck her head over the edge and looked at me, I waved up to her, "Hello, Rainbow! How are you today?" I asked as she flew down to me.

Rainbow Dash is a rather petite woman, having not much of a body o speak for, which is perfect for her athletic needs. She was short with long legs, perfect for running, and she had a large upper body, thanks to her vigorous workout sessions.

"Whow whow whow, where do you think you're going?" She asks me accusingly, giving me the stink eye.

I stare blankly at her.

She suddenly looks very embarrassed, "Oh, I meant to say, "hey Twilight", heh... Funny how things just slip out sometimes..." She says as she rubs the back of her neck.

I continue to stare without an expression, "Well, that was awkward. I'm going to Sugar Cube Corner for breakfast." I Explain. " Because a certain baby dragon ate all the food in the house..." I mumble under my breath.

"Wait, did you say "Sugar Cube Corner"?!" Asks Rainbow Dash.

"Uhh, yeah? What else would I have said?" I say, looking the rainbow hair girl in the face, squinting my eyes at her.

"Why would you want to go there?" She asks, trying to play it cool, but having already failed.

"Because they have a good breakfast menu?" I offer.

"No...?" Trys Rainbow, "I heard they just, uhh, changed the menu. so you, uhh, can't go there?" She doesn't sound very convinced with herself, so neither am I.

"Okay Rainbow, now I have to go to Sugar Cube Corner, because I'm clearly not suppose to go there." I say, before attempting to walk past the short girl.

"Who says I'm trying to stop you from going to Sugar Cube Corner? What do you think, that the other girls put me on guard to stop you? That's crazy!" She says, sweating profusely now.

"Well, now that's what I believe." I say. It must be the influence of Applejack, because the chance of six girls becoming friends, and not a single one of them being able to lie is far to unlikely.

"Oh come on, Twilight! I'll do anything to make sure you don't get there!" She pleads, there really must be something going on down there.

But I quickly notice a almost fatal mistake of Rainbow's, "Anything, huh?" I say, an evil smirk adorning my face.

Rainbow's pupils shrink in realisation and fear, "Oh, crap."

"Thanks for going to the shops with me Rainbow." I say as we aproch the farmer's market in Ponyville main plaza.

Rainbow smiles, "Don't mention it, Twi. I was scared you were going to make me go to the spa or something."

I giggle at that, "Yeah, it crossed my mind. But I realised it was cost a lot for what would only be a small laugh, plus, if I have to shop, might as well do it someone else, and since Spike was unable too..."

Hey! Do I not even, like, exist anymore?!

"Yeah, I hate shopping to, its so slow and just, blegh." Says Rainbow, sticking out her tongue.

You have the boringest friends every, Sparkle. Complains Bubbles.

Oh shush. I say back.

"So Rainbow?"

"Hhm?"

"What's happening at Sugar Cube Corner?" I ask.

Rainbow snorts, "You think it'd be that easy?"

I shrug, "It was worth a shot."

We enter the plaza, people walking around all over the place, small stalls off to the sides, people shouting about how their products were the best in all the lands.

I take a smell of the fresh produce. There really in nothing like the smell of the countryside.

I can think of a better one...

I don't dignify her with an answer.

"So, what are we looking for?" Asks Rainbow, looking around the place and taking it all in.

"Food really, I'm kind of out." I say.

"Yeah, but what kind of food?" Rainbow looks me in the face, clearly not having a lot of patience today.

My stomach growls, reminding me that I still hadn't eaten today, "Preferably something I can eat now." I spy the Sweet Apple Acres stall not too far from us. "A good apple would be perfect right about now."

We walk over to the stall, and see Applejack standing behind it, proudly boasting about the best apples in Equestria, recommended by the Princesses themselves.

Applejack is one hell of a woman, most wouldn't say sees very attractive, but that isn't much of an insult to her. She has a massive build, in which both nature and nurture had rolls in supplying. She's a very tall woman, not quite as tall as Rarity, but she's up there. Her skin's dark and leathery, thanks to her life out on the sun, she also has a makeupless, rough face thanks to lots of time in the dirt. All of this clashes quite badly with her long, luscious, blond hair, cascading down her body in to giant ponytails.

She sees us and waves a hearty wave," Howdy there girls, how are ya'll today?" She asks.

I find her presence kind of confusing, "Applejack? What are you doing here?" I ask.

"Why wouldn't Ah be here?" She asks, her southern drawl as strong as ever.

Rainbow shuffles uncomfortably, Applejack notices this and gives her an unimpressed look, "Rainbow, what ain't you tell me this time?" She asks.

"Well, me and the girls are kind of doing something secret, and he didn't want you to spill the beans, so..." Say Rainbow, getting straight to the point.

"Ya'll saying Ah can't keep a secret? Who says I can't keep a secret?!" Says Applejack, stomping her foot onto the ground.

"Uhh, fate itself?" Suggests Rainbow.

Applejack crosses her arms and harrumphs.

"Can I have five golden delicouses?" I ask, trying to dispel the hostile mood those two always inspire in each other.

"What? Oh, yeah, of course, sugarcube." She says before grabbing the apples out of a barrel behind her.

She puts them in a bag and hand them to me, "That'll be five bits, Twi."

I hand her the coins and take the bag, I imminently pull out one of the apples and start eating it. "Fanks, Fapplejack." I mumble around the apple.

The two girls look at me, "Wha?" I ask.

"Well, no offence Twi, but ya table manners leave at lot to beh desired." Applejack says.

"Yeah, your eating is even worse than Pinkie's when she's eating cake." Laughs Rainbow.

I mutter angrily to myself as I begin to walk away, I can guess where I get my sloppiness from.

It's way sexier when it's messy! Says Bubbles.

I knew you were going to say something like that.

"Hey Twilight, wait up!" Calls Rainbow as she jogs up behind me.

"So, is that why no one told me about what's happening at Sugar Cube Corner?" I asked.

"What in the who now?" Replied Rainbow, quite confused.

"Because I can't keep a secret?" I ask rhetorically.

"Well, uhh, yeah? And you're not a very good lier." She says, sounding actually sure of herself for the first time today.

"Hey! That's unfair!" I shout, stomping my foot.

"Whow, calm down Twilight! If it makes you feel any better, the reason I'm not there is because I'm a terrible lier."

I raise my eyebrow at this, Was that the great Rainbow Dash showing a bit of humility?" I say, smirking.

"What ever that means, don't go telling other people that I said that!"

I think she thinks that humility is an insult. "Rainbow, having humility is a good thing!"

"Them why you say it like an insult?" She asked me.

I cross my arms, "That's a good question. I think I was making fun of you, though I'm not sure why. I think I was trying to make a joke, but it wasn't very funny."

Rainbow throws her arms over her head, "No need to over think, Twilight!"

See Twilight, even your friends know where it's at!

"Can we just continue shopping?" I say tentatively.

"Uhh, sure." Say Rainbow, slightly taken back by my strong tone. "Over there's Carrot Top's stall, she has a good range of vegetables."

"Alright, next stop, Carrot Top's stall!" I proclaim as we work off and continue shopping.

I was currently walking home by myself, Rainbow had run off a little while ago, right after we'd finished shopping. I had a couple bags of stuff, but a lot of what I need I'll have to get Bubbles to get for me from Manehatten.

My route home happened to take me right past Sugar Cube Corner, I heard voices inside, despite the fact that it, and most other shops at this time, had closed for the day. I knew I probably shouldn't, but I just couldn't help myself; I walked up to the door, and held my ear up against it.

"Rainbow, Twilight doesn't suspect anything does she?" I heard Rarity ask.

"Uhh, maybe?" Said Rainbow, honestly what was with her today?

"Rainbow-" I heard Rarity begin, but she took a large, quite random breath, "Well, I guess it is quite hard to keep a secret from Twilight."

What? She was about to give Rainbow a serving! What made her stop?

I heard a rumble in the sky, I didn't have the time to think about this new conundrum, I had to get home before the rain started. Spring always annoys me is this way, in the same day it'll go from beautiful, to raining, and back to blue skies, it was just allover the place.

I quickly made my way home, because of the rain, it became a lot darker a lot faster than normal. I managed to get home just before the rain started.

I slipped out of my heels, happy to not have to wear the uncomfortable clothing anymore.

Oh come on! I don't even have to try!

I actually laughed at that, Sorry about ignoring you today, Bubbles, social interactions and such.

"Spike! I'm home, I did the shopping!" I call into the house as I walk into the kitchen, dumping the bags into the table.

"Spike?" I call again, still failing to hear a reply, I spied a note on the bench however.

Dear Twilight,

I got home to find that weren't here, so I've left this note instead. Did that make sense, wait, yeah, it did. Anyway, I'm spending the night at Scootaloo's with the others, so don't wait up!

From, Spike

I sigh as I place the note back on the table, "Don't wait up? What is he, a teenage girl?"

I guess we're making our own dinner tonight.

I been feeling really hungry all day, no matter what I've been eating, I hope a large, nice meal will help me with that. If only I could remember how to cook...

I walk into the library proper, and scan the shelves. "I know there's a cook book somewhere around here..." I mumble to myself.

Finally I find it, I lean down to pick it off the shelve, and I flip though it, looking at all the different recipes that it houses. Most of them are way out of my league. I finally find one that looks doable.

"Mac 'n' Cheese, huh? Not a fan of the abbreviated "and", but it'll have to do." I say, wondering back into the kitchen. "Ingredients: macaroni, or other pasta , and cheese." I stare at the book for a second, before shrugging it off, "Wish I could come up with such an accurate name."

I open the fridge to find no cheese, I move on to the cupboard to find that there is no "macaroni, or other pasta". I quickly look in the bags, only to find that I hadn't bought either. "Gosh darn it." I huff, crossing my arms, "Any ideas, Bubbles?"

We could go out for dinner? She suggests. As she says this, a loud rumble of thunder and flash of lightning light up the house. Or not.

I notice that I'd forgotten to turn the lights on, and a quick flash of my hands changes that.

I decide to just fry up some vegetables, the meal might not have a name, but it'll get the job done. I grab a frying pan out from under the sink, and put it atop the stove.

Aren't you supposed to boil vegetables?

I have no idea. I say. I decide to put boil some vegetable, and boil them, that should sort the problem.

After eating some under boiled and over fried vegetables, it was time for bed. But before so a note came in through the mail slot on the door. I walked over to the soaked note and quickly read it. It basically said that it was going to be raining all of the next day, and that it would be a doosy, and that people should stay in their homes.

I sigh as I realise this means that Spike wont be home tonight, Hey Bubbles, should we spend the night at your place? You'll probably be in charge of the body tomorrow anyway.

Yeah, that sounds good! She confirms.

I take off my clothes, and walk down into my basement, dumping them in the hamper down there. My magic activate the runes and the portal to Bubbles' place opens up, I step though, enjoying the feeling of raw magic on my naked body perhaps a bit too much.

I walk through the main room of her house and into her bedroom and collapse into her smelly, creaky bed. Her bed and mattress are falling apart, thanks to lots of quite abusive activities. Abusive to the bed, at least. I look out the window and see nothing but the building adjacent to this one. It's weird, this is the only place I've ever stayed at in while I don't get a nice view.

I sigh as I close my eyes. Night Bubbles.

Night Sparkles.. And like that, we were out like a light.
