How the Twilight Sparkles and Bubbles
Waking Up
Previous ChapterAuthor's Note
Get ready ladies and gentlemen, because it's time for this story to...

It's at this point this story's going to take a turn to crazy town, and while this may seem random, this has been planned from the start, and I've tried to drop hints, but yeah... Enjoy!
Waking Up
I jolted awake, jumping up for no apparent reason. I tried to open my eyes, but the light was way to bright for that. I had a splitting headache, it felt like someone had just up a whole bunch of unwanted stuff in my head, and it was trying to get out.
"Uhh, my head!" Called a voice from beside me.
I cried out in shock before looking to my side, backing away from the potential threat. Next to me was a naked woman, she was sitting up, also clutching her head. She had long, bleach blonde hair, that flowed down her body a long way. She very large assets, almost to big to be true, she was a little fatter than me, which made sense considering she was so big in those areas, and I'm quite thin.
She had somethings about her that were clearly wrong, but I barely even noticed over the most shocking thing I've think I've ever seen.
My brain could barely comprehend it, but not matter how long I stared, the sight never changed. My whole life was redefined in the moment I realised who this woman was.
"Bubbles?"
She suddenly opened her eyes, and her head snapped onto me, her mouth was hanging open. I got a good look at her face she looked so much like me, a twin almost. Her eyes, the way her mouth opened, her nose, everything. I'd never seen Bubbles with my own eyes, only ever out of hers. She was beautiful. Did I say that? I'm so confused right now. I can't love my sister. Was she my sister? My mind's going a million miles a minute, I don't know-
I felt a bone crushing hug, Bubbles was latching onto me, happy tears rolling down her face, "Sparkles! It's you! In the flesh! The real you!" She says, clearly as amazed as I am.
I forget my headache as I hug her back, my own tears of happiness rolling down my face, "Bubbles! I- I don't know what to say!" I stammer, I feel I should say something, this is the biggest thing to ever happen in our lives, and I couldn't even think of anything to say.
"Same! This is, like, the most amazing thing ever!" She says, laughing with happiness as we hold each other for the first time.
I lean out of the hug, holding Bubbles by the shoulders as I look her over. She's clearly doing the same thing to me. "Bubbles, your skin is so soft!" I say.
I finally get to hold my sister, and the only thing I could say was that she had soft skin. Good job me.
Bubbles giggles, "Thanks! Your not too bad yourself!"
I blush at that.
We let go of each other and just sit for a while, glowing in each other's company. It was amazing, almost completely surreal to see Bubbles right here, in front of me.
Bubbles gaze peels off of me, and she looks around, confusion flooding her face. "Uhh, Sparkles?"
"Yeah?" I ask, still reeling in the happiness of this situation.
"Where are we?" She asks.
The takes me out of my almost hypnotic state of astonishment. I look around, in much the same way Bubbles did moments before.
We're in a small room, a red tinge in everything you can see. It appeared that we were deep underground, as we were in a small rocky cave, very rough and jagged rock surrounding us. Around the entire perimeter of the room there is what appears to be a small moat of lava, it spewing red fire into the air. That would explain the red tinge.
It appeared there was no way in, and therefore no way out. The cave was just taller than our heads.
"I have no idea." I replied.
"Sparkles?" Bubbles asks, sounding concerned.
"Hmm?" I hum, enjoying the warmth of the room, despite the fact that I was naked I felt quite comfortable.
"Why aren't I scared of this place?" She asked.
I look at her. She has her arms crossed over her chest, a look of fear on her face as she continued to look around this small room.
"I..." Suddenly realised that I had no idea. Where we were looked like a prison cell in Tartarus more than anything else, that should've been extremely concerning. But it just sort of... wasn't. It was extremely odd, I was more scared of not being scared.
"I wish I knew." I say. It's true.
"Do you think someone's messing with our head... heads?" Bubbles asks.
That thought does scare me. "I... hope not." Is all I can say.
I shivered.
"Are you cold?" Asks Bubbles.
"No, just, concerned." I say, I'm quite confused, and I hate being confused. It always makes me feel helpless.
I stand up, taking a step forward in a heroic manner, "we have to do something!" I proclaim.
Bubbles looks at me, "I agree completely," she says, but she rubs the back of her neck, "but what can we do?"
I slump back down to the ground, "damn it Bubbles, I'm trying to be positive!" I complain.
"But, like, you're right! We should to something! I just don't know what!" Says Bubbles, laying onto the ground.
I stand back up again, "well laying around," I look down to Bubbles, "uhh, literally, isn't going to help!"
Bubbles stood up, and walked over to the side of the room, getting closer to the bubbling lava.
"Bubbles! Don't get to close to the stuff!" I warn, but Bubbles doesn't listen.
She gets right up the the edge, and kneels down. She reaches her hand out, getting terrifyingly close to the molten rock.
"Bubbles!"
Her borrow scrunches in confusion. "Uhh, Sparkles? Isn't lava supposed to be, like, super hot?" She asks.
"Yes!" I cry, "get away from it!"
Bubbles turns to me, finally moving away from the lava, "but it isn't! Same with the room, everything's red and burn-y! Shouldn't it be, like, a million degrees?!" She shouts, arms flailing.
I look around, the majority of the room is on fire, and yet it isn't how or anything, warn, maybe. Really, the best way to describe the temperature of the room is pleasant. Again, my lack of reaction and fear to this new discovery is what's making up most of my anxiety.
"Bubbles, I'm not concerned by this."I say, "this entire situation seems fine!" I shout waving my arm. I look Bubbles right in the eye, "and that scares me, a lot."
Bubbles looks back at me, fear evident in her eyes, "I don't know how to feel, Sparkles! I want to be scared, but I'm just, sorta, not."
"I feel the same Bubbles! We're in a tiny room, in which we can barely stand up, everything's on fire, and- and-" I fall to the ground. I look down at my hands, something about them is, different, but I con't tell what. Or why it should be concerning. I mean, I do know why it should be concerning, but I don't care. But I do care that I don't care.
I look at Bubbles, and again notice that something's different, but I can't tell what.
I curl up, clutching my legs to my face, "everything's different, but it's all-"
"Fine?" Offers Bubbles.
I look out at her, "even we're different." I say, "we're not even in the same body anymore!"
I see Bubbles eyes well up, "I'm really scared Sparkles, but I'm forcing myself to be scared because I think I should be!"
"I don't know what to do!" I moan, my head falling into my hands.
Out of nowhere, I feel a large fluctuation of magic, right in the middle of the room. Bubbles and I look at each other, before quickly shuffling away from the middle of the room. Bubbles crawls over to me, and hugs me tightly. I hug her back.
There's a loud noise, like that of a fire, as a red portal opens up in the direct middle of the room. The portal is like a hole in the floor, it is a couple of feet across, and has red flames lapping around the perimeter of it. It reminds me of a changeling portal, but the fire isn't emerald.
"That portal's been here the whole time!" Exclaims Bubbles. I look at her, before looking around the room. Bubbles is correct, the portal has been laying dormant in the room the whole time, all that was needed was for it to get a bit of magic, and therefore "power-up" as it were.
I try to look into the portal, but it's pitch black. I want to go to it, walk into it. I feel it's something I want to do. But it isn't something I should do, for obvious reason.
My heart says yes, but my mind says no.
Bubbles and I look to each other, I know we're thinking, or should I say, felling the same thing.
"Should we?" She asks.
I sigh. "What else can we do?"
Bubbles shacks her head, "I don't know."
I stand up, and Bubbles reluctantly follows. "I don't want to do this." I say, I close my eyes and take a shuddering breath.
Bubbles grabs me by the hand, "neither," she says. We take steps together, and fall into the portal.
We brace our selves for anything, but what we got was nothing we expected.
First off, I was not expecting a graceful landing, but we both fell to our feet, and both kept our balance.
"Wow." Said Bubbles.
I agree.
We were in a large cavern, sort of a scaled up version of our cell from before. It was, again, all rock, there were small cracks and channels all over the floor, in between them was more lava. The room was huge, feeling very much like a conference hall, for lack of better compassion.
All around us pairs of people were dropping, in very much the same way us as, every pair I saw was similar to us, two people, one looked normal, while the other was a sexualised version of the first. Or the first was the sexualised one was first, and the other was a toned down version of them. What ever, doesn't matter, what does matter though is the idea that Bubbles and I aren't the only ones.
"Where are we now?"Asks Bubbles.
"I don't know." I reply.
After a couple of minutes, people stop coming, there are about twenty pairs in total.
I large man, easily the tallest in the room, decides to take charge. "Does anyone know what the hell is going on?!" He shouts.
I notice something off about everyone here, apart from it looking like a twin convention, but again, I can't seem to figure out what is wrong.
"I think we've been kidnapped!" Shouts a woman from across the room.
Yes, that would make sense, but what to we all have on common? "Maybe we should all rally together and try to figure out why us?"
The pairs begin to walk towards Bubbles and I. I strain my self, trying to see any details that they all have in common. Despite not having been able to detect detail since arriving... where ever we are, I do notice something. In all the pairs, the "sexy" one is trailing behind the other, where's the "normal" one is working in a very commanding style. Even in the males, where's the second ones are large and buff. And while this detail is indeed weird, again, I sort of don't care.
"Alright," says the man from before, "let's go through the facts."
"Ok, so one," I start, "we're in a cave-"
"That's on fire!" Shouts one of the other girls, her tongue laced with a southern drawl. I look over to her, and notice she's the hyper variation of the pair. She reminds me of Bubbles in many ways. She's very... large, has fire red hair, and dark, tanned skin, her counter-part is also very large, but instead has large muscles. I assume they're Apples, but what are they doing down here with us? Why are any of us down here?
Are we even down?
I decide not to bring attention to them, and get on with listing the facts. "We're all, uhh, twins?" I offer.
Everyone looks around, not quite sure on my wording.
"What are we?" Asks a man up the back, we all turn to look at him. He's got matted, brown hair, and a small, scraggly beard. His counterpart had basically the same features, but on him the looked good.
Did I just say that?
"Uhh, I mean, me and Boulder Bash were always... I don't know, one and the same?" He tries.
"Same!" Calls Bubbles.
Everyone murmurs in agreement.
"Well then, I guess that's the common factor." States the man from before.
"But why?" I ponder, fingers rubbing my chin as I think.
"I think there's a more pressing issue." Says the man, I look at him, curiosity clear on my features.
"Oh yes?"
"Why aren't I, and I assume as all, concerned?" He asks.
"I think someone's messing with our heads!" Shouts Bubbles.
"Ah reckon it's changelin's." Says the Apple from before.
"Yes. But again, the question of the hour, why?!" I shout.
Someone starts crying, I feel like joining them.
"I'm re-heally scared!" Sobs the woman. We all look to her, she's quite petite, even her counter-part, while big, isn't as outlandish as most other people in this room.
We all look to her. I don't know why, but the fact that's she's upset distresses me. And not for the obvious reasons. It's like if one of my close friends was upset, I just want to go and hug her.
One of the girls next to her walks over to comfort her, only to find that her counter-part is already giving her a cuddle. The women still tries though. "What's wrong?"
"I'm not scared!" The crying girl shouts, "I'm usually an introvert! I don't like talking! Why am I talking?!" She curls up and begins sobbing on the floor.
"So there maybe someone tooling with our minds." I state, "but it's odd. If someone is playing with our heads, why allow us to become aware to it? Why allow us to react to it?"
"Oh, I don't know!" The man from before states. I get a good look at him, he's very tall, seven feet even, and very large. His muscles are extreme, but despite this, they aren't bulging or vain-y. His face is firm, but not ugly or anything. In fact, he's rather attractive, I look to his alternative to see that he's, unsurprisingly, a bombshell. They look to be part of the guard. "I just want to be out of here!"
That's a thought. My hands light up as I begin to slowly wave them around, scanning the room for any noticeable magics.
"What are you doing?" Asks the man.
Bubbles notices what I'm doing, and begins to scan as well. "We're scanning for anything, like, crazy!" Bubbles tells him.
My eyes widen at what I find, "oh my..." I whisper.
I look to Bubbles, she looks back to me, by the look in her eyes, and can tell she as amazed, and shocked, as I am.
"What? What is it?" Asks the man, a bit unnerved from Bubbles' and my reaction.
"Well," I start, "there is a lot of ambient magic in this room, but it's nothing concerning, just large amounts of what's usually considered 'normal'."
"Ok, I guess."
"But," I say, holding up my hands, "this is something concerning." I look around, "the oddest thing in this room is... us."
He looks at me, "what does that mean?"
"Well, it means, well, that," I stumble on my words, not quite sure how to phrase what I'm sensing.
"It means that there's a lot of weird magic-y stuff all over us!" Say Bubbles, proud that she was able to word what I couldn't.
"Would that be that, like, changeling mind magic stuff?" Asks one of the girls.
"No," I say, "that would make this easy." I joke.
No one laughs.
I clear my throat, trying to get over the awkward silence a bit. "Yes, well, anyway. What makes this weird is that not just are we radiating the magic, as far as I can tell, we're also producing the magic."
Everyone looked at me, a bit lost.
"It means that we're the changelings!" Say Bubbles.
Some of the people gasp, and the others look very concerned. The women from before cracks a loud sob.
"No no no!" I say, worried that Bubbles has upset everyone in the room. "We're not actually changelings, Bubbles is just saying that our weird emotion reactions are not of some outside force, but are from ourselves. As if we were changelings and had cast a spell on ourselves."
"So, are we changelings?" Asks the large man.
"No, the magic signature is completely different to that of a changeling's magic." I explain, the others seem to be satisfied with that. "But," time to upset them again, "the magic signature we're giving off is completely unique, and I don't think I've seen it before."
"But what does that mean for us?"
"It means that..." I rub my hands, feeling quite anxious, "we're producing a magic signature that is unknown in Equestria."
"I means that we're different from before!" Helps Bubbles.
I sigh, "well, I can't put it subtly, like I hoped." I sigh again, "as far as I can tell... We're no longer human."
With this revolution, me and everyone else looked around, and for the first time since arriving here, or possibly even ever. We opened our eyes.
