Children of Humanity
Prologue - First Born
Load Full StoryNext ChapterTwenty-seven years ago, my father and mother met after an incident with magic (we can blame a particularly pesky Discord and a young Princess Twilight Sparkle for that) broke open wormhole that linked Equus with another planet called Earth that was merely 200 light-years away. At least, that's what I've read in the history and science books. After a bunch of governmental affairs on both parts, the wormhole was deemed safe for travelling and at one point, my father decided to come on vacation here to see what all the hubbub was about.
He was nearly done with his college education when he came here the first time. Not too long after he got here, he, quite literally, bumped into my mother in the marketplace. They both fell over and tried to help each other up. My mom dropped a bag of groceries she was carrying in her magic, and in both of their haste to try and clean up, her hoof landed on his hand over an apple. It sounds like quite a fairytale encounter, I'm sure, but this is what they've told me.
My father was raised with the idea "two legs, talking, smart, good; four legs, silent, dumb, bad." when it came to dating. They shared their gaze for a moment before they both just started blushing profusely and stammering all over the place. He said that when he looked into her eyes that day, he never though he'd see a pony in such a way, because she's not an Earthling pony, which are just work animals and aren't sentient whatsoever, and that she's pretty much like a human in most regards, something just clicked for him. All of this sounds cliche and fairytale, I know, but I thank Faust that it turned out the way it did, or else I wouldn't be here right now, telling you this story.
He 'grew some balls' and invited her to 'coffee or tea, or whatever you guys have here' in apologies for running in to her. She stammered her acceptance and they met up the next day. This was the first of many encounters, and a friendship that would blossom into something much more. Near the end of his two-week long vacation, he decided that since he had enough bits to last him for awhile longer, he would stay a full month. I'm glad he did, because the next time they ran into each other, he asked her out on an official date, and she pretty much immediately accepted.
When it came time to leave, however, he said that because the location of the wormhole was only a town over from him, he could visit regularly. She was reluctant to see him go, but she held on to the hope that he would come back to see her. And he did. Almost two times a week, he came over and went to see her, for almost six months. Then, it was time for his college graduation, and he invited her to come to it. At first, she was skeptical about going to Earth, but after she learned that ponies already held steady jobs and owned houses, she accepted. When ponies found out that bits fetched quite a lot of money on Earth because they were pure gold, and a lower-class family here on Equus could become half-millionaires if they traded in their life's savings. In a short time period (somewhere around eight months), the Equestrian Bit became equal in value to the 'United States Dollar', and gold was in abundance. The same thing happened with gems, as well. Many poor ponies became millionaires on Earth, and many humans found out that they could become millionaires with this as well - my father was one of them.
To say the least, this helped him significantly. "It was like I won the lottery, I only wish I realized it sooner." he said to me. By the time he invited my mother to his graduation, he was barely scraping by, but when he found out that each bit was worth at least two hundred and fifty dollars each as it was declining, considering he had about a thousand, he easily pulled in a quarter of a million dollars. That was an average years salary for a doctor or a lawyer. For their one year anniversary, considering that diamonds were now a thousand times cheaper than they used to be, he gave her a solid diamond horn ring. (Yes, they actually started designing those on Earth as well.)
It was only another six months before he proposed to her, much to her surprise, because she was going to propose to him in just a few days at their next date. On Earth, it's generally assumed that the male would make all the significant moves in a relationship, from asking a woman on a date to asking her hand in marriage. Yes, sometimes the women do it, but here in Equestria, where mares outnumber stallions three to one, the gender roles are reversed.
Three human months later, on March 15th, 2016, my mother officially became the first mare to be married to a human. Two months after that, she revealed she was pregnant with me.
It was probably the biggest news story across both worlds.
At first, my father somewhat freaked out, because he thought she was unfaithful and had another stallion bed her during the heat cycle that occurred just a week after their wedding. It was actually scientifically proven that human DNA was incompatible with pony DNA. But then after the tests, it was indeed, their foal. Me. The news media went absolutely insane. Nobody knew what to think about it. My family became celebrities overnight. The First Alien Couple Will Have A Child, said the papers. Although we were met with praise, the criticism, bigotry and hatred outnumbered it. "He's a zoophile, he's a pervert, a basement dweller who's sexual fantasies have become reality!" they also screamed.
My mother and father received congratulatory baskets from the President of the United States, the Prime Minister and Queen of England, and even the four princesses of Equestria themselves. It seems that they were far more tolerant and accepting than any other pony or person we came across that wasn't just humoring us for the press or to get on our good side when "whatever alien monstrosity will pop out of her ravaged cunt." said one of them.
My father swiftly kicked that stallion in the face.
Surprisingly, it only took me the average human time of nine months to be born on December 25th, 2016, or if you prefer Equestrian, 25th Novius, 6th Age, Year 1005, at 1:07 PM in Ponyville General Hospital. (Coincidentally, Hearth's Warming and Christmas; something that wouldn't occur again for a very long time.) I was the size of a human baby, weighing in at nine pounds five ounces. Perfectly healthy. However, I'm not just one species. I am both of them, but I have more of my mother's details than anything, including the fact that I am a mare as well. I have the face and snout of a pony, albeit more smoothed and rounded. My feet aren't really feet, they are hooves, and I am able to walk bipedal. I have hands with four fingers and a thumb. I also have the ears of a pony and larger eyes than a human. I have a tail, and probably most notably, a horn. I'm actually able to channel magic, however, it is very weak. I have my mother's cyan coat and fur color and her brilliant golden eyes. However, my mane and tail are actually a dirty blonde, like my father, but with my mother's white highlights intertwined with his hair color.
The worlds were quite surprised to know that I was a combination of both my mother and father. Scientists scratched the ruling that our kinds genes were impossible to combine. Instead, after many lab tests, it was ruled that the chance of a child between a pony and human being conceived was under one percent. Tests with human female eggs and stallions were ruled almost impossible, with percentages much less than my chances.
Unfortunately, my birth, the praise and congratulations my family received, and all the positive publicity were the biggest highlights of my life. It didn't get any better from here on, in fact, it got worse. Much worse.
My name is Angel Heartstrings, or as my father likes to call me, Angelica, and this is my story, my struggle, as a Child of Humanity.
