Flame blazed through the moors, fireponies were working strongly to put it out but as dusk cracked, the rain fell and the flames turned to vapor, which faded into the dusky sky. Most of the fireponies went back to their respective villages, but one stayed behind. He was curious as he could hear a faint cry resonating from nearby.
The cry wasn't like a adult cry, no it was young; very young in fact. A foal's cry. He blinked in confusion, why would a foal be here of all places. He trotted forward, looking for the signs of life which he could hear and eventually came upon a bundle, laying in the dirt. It was wrapped in a rich white cloth, indicating the child was a wealthy heir. He used his magic to unwrap the blanket to look at the foal.
Instead the blanket laid a pegasus foal, no older then 4 months at the most. It's coat was as white as snow, but the mane was ablaze, much like the fire from before, the same with the tail. It's eyes were closed, a sure indication of sleep. But one question arose from the unicorn, how did this young foal survive such a fire. He wrapped his horn in his magical glow, and picked up the bundle and stared down at the infant. It was sleeping so peacefully that he didn't want to awaken it, but he had to get the foal back to his village otherwise it wouldn't survive another night.
Night hung in the sky by the time he reached his village, Maretonia. He walked over to earthen ground to the medical center, which was by the town square. He walked as face as he could muster with a small foal floating within his magical light. He was just glad that light emitted from the building. They were still working! He walked up to the door, and pushed it open slowly. Inside mares and stallions were running all over to place preparing from closing up for the night. He felt sorry that he had to bother them for some time but he really didn't have much choice and he had a family to get home to so he couldn't waste time.
One of the mares stopped dead when she saw the unicorn stallion and smiled brightly. She was a earth pony, one of the few of the village which was mainly populated by unicorns. Pegasi weren't known and earth ponies were pretty rare. She continued smiling till her sight rolled to the small bundle. She knew exactly what it was.
''A foal? Mr Brave, I didn't know that you had another baby.'' she said, with a hint of concern.
''No, Lavender. It's not mine.'' he said, with a smile.
''Oh, I see. But where did you find it?''
''Well a fire had erupted nearby. My boys and various others from other nearby villages put it out yet I stayed behind. I had overheard a cry, a infant's cry. I checked it out and I found these foal, sleeping peacefully. It's wrapped in a glorious white silk, so I believe it came from a rich family.''
Lavender took in the story, knowing that if a fire had erupted near the foal then the parents mustn't have survive. It was sad, but she had to tend to the foal immediately to check from damage.
''Come along, there's a free room.''
Mr Brave nodded and followed the lavender earth pony into a rather large room, possible one of the largest. He knew what it was having been there a 3 times for his children's births. It's was the maternity ward and the prefect place to give a checkup to a small foal of likely 4 months.
''Just put the foal in the crib.''
The unicorn nodded, and walked over to the blueish crib and laid the bundle down. The blankets unraveled from around the foal, which was still sleeping but now shivering. Only a few seconds past and two small beady eyes opened. They were heterochromic, using the colors orange and green, but also misaligned from each other.
''Her eyes....'' he mumbled.
''Oh, their fine. The foal may have a hard time seeing in the future but she's alright. But, my mayor. What are we going to do about her?''
''Wait a moment. Her? She?''
''Yes, the foal you see before you is a young filly.''
''Oh, I see. And you made a point, what are we going to do with her?''
''Well, you know...Maybe, you could take her in. Raise her with your sons and daughter.'' said Lavender, with a smile before chuckling. ''Plus, it will make the female/male ratio prefect.
''Your right. Let me think...'' said Mr Brave. ''Tranquil would probably be fine with having another sister, he wasn't so bother at his siblings births and plus, he's a teenager so he shouldn't be bothered. Zany may be a bit annoyed but like Tranquil, he is a preteen so it won't be too annoyed. But then we have Dia who will get jealous of no longer being the youngest of the family but I think she'll adjust, after all the foal is a filly.''
''I agree with you on Dia, she is a young filly but what about your wife. What will she think?''
''Oh, Annabelle loves foals. She has always wanted another filly, so things shouldn't be too hard.''
''I see. May I ask what will the child be called if you take her in?''
''Sparks, after all her mane looks like a flame and sparks come from flames.'''
''That's a adorable name.'' said Lavender, smiling as she looked over the newly named Sparks. ''She's a pegasus, I see. A bit dramatic for our unicorn populated village.''
''Oh, she'll adjust. I'm sure and I will raised her to the best I can.''
