Aria Blaze shut her bedroom door with force after she entered her room. She didn't bother turning on the lights, and since the sun had already set that night, it was nearly pitch black.
Aria sighed heavily as she yanked her star shaped ponytail holders out of her hair. Sometimes she wondered why she bothered taking orders from Adagio. They hadn't done much in the past couple days, anyway. All Adagio had done was drag them to clothing stores and fast food restaurants for no good reason.
"Even though our powers are lost and our pendants shattered, she still thinks she deserves to be leader," Aria muttered, running a hand through her now loose hair. She kicked off her boots and sent them spiraling into the blackness. A thud let Aria know she had hit the stupid bookshelf on the other side of the room.
Aria shrugged her green jacket off and fell back onto her bed. If she hadn't been shrouded in darkness, Aria would've seen the green and purple fairies dancing around her bedspread.
Thanks, Sonata. You totally proved your worth in picking household items, Aria thought sarcastically. Remembering the girly pattern only Sonata had selected only darkened her room.
Remember Chord? Aria was startled by her own thoughts. Chord Blitz was her older cousin, back in Equestria. Their houses- well, the more accurate term was mansions- had been right ext to each other. Chord had been the only pegasus in their family. She was playful and similar to Sonata, though Sonata was much more ditzy and annoying. Chord would have enjoyed these covers.
Aria remembered once, when she had been just a little siren pony, Chord had flown up to Aria's room in the dark of night. She had gently ushered tiny Aria onto her back and Aria had eagerly accepted the invitation to a great adventure.
Chord had flown up into the night clouds, and Aria had been able to see the entire land of Equestria!
What a stupid thought, Aria thought. She had only thought that at the time. Now, it was obvious enough that she had been wrong.
Chord finally stopped to rest on a cloud. Aria, still on Chord's back, had watched the moon rise overhead.
"One day, Aria," Chord told her softly, "you'll have the power to control the world. And when you do, you can even control the moon with your songs!"
"I want to eat the moon!" Aria had replied, swatting at a wisp of Chord's long violet mane that had floated into her face.
Aria frowned as she stared up. Well, you were wrong, Chord. I can't control the moon anymore.
Her thoughts of Chord soon dissolved into ones of her siblings. Ballad Rise, her older sister, had been the perfect siren. She had been a traveling bard, telling enchanting stories in a way of song that had made ponies fall under her spell almost instantly. The quantity of power she earned at each town was small, but still effective since she traveled constantly.
Treble Triumph and Tempo Triumph were her pesky younger sisters, both sharing magnificent violet eyes with Aria. Aria rolled her eyes as she thought about them. The twins were only three years younger than her, but they had never taken their siren duties seriously. They had preferred sports, in Treble's case, and fashion, in Tempo's. It had been so annoying. Annoying in a different way than Sonata was.
Aria rolled over and buried her head in her pillow. Despite their annoying qualities, she found herself missing the twins. And her brother and foal sister, too.
Opus Blaze had been a year older than Aria. Being a colt, he didn't have siren powers. Aria didn't know him well, unfortunately. Ballad had always told Aria that Opus liked to organize things and had been very quiet when he wasn't up in his room. Aria's strongest memory of him was when she had dumped her cereal on his head one morning.
Divertimento Blast, or Divvy for short, was a whole decade younger than Aria. She was quite a hoofful. Aria remembered a specific instance several years before she had been banished to the human world. 5-year-old Divvy had run away, and Aria, Treble, and Tempo had gone out to look for her.
"I hope Divvy didn't run off to some town," Treble had remarked as they trotted through the forest, searching for their pale green sister.
"She wouldn't be stupid enough to expose herself to pony society," Aria grumbled.
"She's five, Aria," Tempo dead-panned. Aria had glared at her younger sister.
"Okay, whatever," Aria growled. "We just need to find her."
Eventually, they had. The little green filly was found behind a bush, eyes trained on passing ponies.
"What are you doing?" Aria snapped, grabbing Divvy in by her shoulders.
"I was watching my prey," Divvy responded, looking up at Aria with large, innocent eyes. Tempo giggled. Treble snorted. Aria rolled her eyes.
"At least you're alright," she responded. "Let's get you back home before Mom and Dad start to worry."
Aria's memory was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Aria?" Sonata's girly voice filtered into the room from outside the closed door. "Adagio wants you to know there's a marathon of your favorite show on."
"What favorite show?"
"I dunno. She said it was for you two only and I wasn't allowed to watch." Aria sat up and considered the thought.
"Tell her I'll be down in a minute," she answered, lying back down.
"Sure thing!" Sonata's footsteps retreated back down the hallway. Aria rolled her eyes, but her nonchalant attitude couldn't fool herself. There was an ache in her chest, a longing sensation unfamiliar to her.
When was the last time I thought about my family? She wondered. About Ballad, Divvy, Treble, Tempo, Opus, Mom, Dad, Chord, and my other billion cousins? Aria rolled onto her side. Not since she had joined Adagio and Sonata and gotten banished to this awful place. The terrible truth of it all was-
"I miss you," Aria whispered into the darkness. "I'm sorry I failed you guys. I hope you're doing alright back in Equestria. I hope you guys did better than I did." Aria rolled off the bed and stood up. A sudden gust of chilly night wind blew into her room.
We miss you too, the wind seemed to say. Aria's imagination must have gotten the better of her, but her mouth curved up into a smile anyway.
"Coming, Adagio!" She yelled downstairs.
